I actually prefer the Saturn version. It retains the look and feel of the arcade. The ps2 version seems to speed up the game play. Also prefer the audio in the saturn version as well.

The PS 2 version is based off of the VF 4 evo "engine". so it runs at 60fps as opposed to the 30fps of the original release.

Yeah i cant believe i'm going to say this buit i agree, the Sturn version is a shittier version of the arcade, but its still a version of the arcade, whil the PS2 version has changed some things. Plus although the PS2 version is obviously better technically, i'm not keen on how washed out and blurry it looks. A common problem with some PS2 games actually, especially in the first half of its lifespan where it had that weird aliasing problem with some games.

Somethin about the saturns version colors and backgrounds that look better to my eyes, but the ps2 wins in other aspects.

Been AGES since i been in the comments or watched one of your videos! But yes, my thoughts. From what i heard and seen the Saturn version of VF1 was regarded as a glitchy mess, but it was still the closest to having an arcade perfect version of the game. VF1 Saturn has new arrangements of the music (Same with the 32X), still retaining the facial animations, all that iconic VF1 goodness. (Tho im not sure if Dural is playable in the Saturn port). As for the PS2 version, Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary. Its a bigger, more fluid in movement, and now with higher quality voices. My only issue (tho its a nitpick) is the lack of facial animations (Its that same thing in VF5 Ultimate Showdown). I like that game also regresses the physics to be more akin to VF1's physics, getting rid of side steps, and other VF4 mechanics VF1 never had. It was also the first time we ever gotten to see characters from VF2 and beyond in a VF1 polygonal look, and its very charming! I also love the VF 10th Anniversary has the arcade music instead of the Saturn, or 32X music. However, Dural is still non playable in this version of the game (Last time i checked) EDIT: And now i remember why i dont come here often. Cuz some people like to argue over absolutely nothing.

You;ve really got to check out the 32X version again - it doesn't have the garbage visual pop in/out of the Saturn.

The PS2 version is why you don't let STEM majors pick out the color palette and lighting. Just because something's more of a technical showcase, doesn't mean it a better aesthetic.

PS2 looks better but it's stretched. Either that or it's just more zoomed in. I don't know what's accurate. That's an officially released game on the PS2? Seems like Sega would have made one for the Xbox to.

This isn’t a fair comparison. The ps2 game is just virtua fighter 4 in a VF1 skin. It’s not virtua fighter 1 at all.

Despite how rushed it was, the Saturn version still possesses a charm that the PlayStation 2 version doesn't match. It's just disappointing that Sega went the texture-mapping route with Remix rather than trying to enhance the flat-shaded look of the original Saturn port; using VDP2 for the arenas was a good change that could've freed up some geometry for the fighters.

Eu gosto muito dessa versão de aniversário do PS2, mas nunca fui com a cara do port de VF1 do Saturn, mesmo na época eu notava muita diferença em relação a versão do Arcade e só fui me satisfazer com o lançamento de VF1 remix. Torci por muito tempo para a Sega lançar uma coletânea com um port decente da versão original de VF1 e games esquecidos como VF4 Final Tuned e VF5 R. Hey, saudades dos nossos embates de Vanessa vs Eileen rssrsrs. Abraço!!!

Não tinha falhas graves, mas a versão do Arcade sim era revolucionária e com qualidades únicas como o detalhe nas mãos dos personagens. Algo que no futuro seria deixado de lado na modelagem em geral. VFremix não era revolucionário, mas era impressionante e isso foi algo que o Port de Saturn não foi na época.

this is a mode in VF4 evo to play classic mode, so yeah. this is not actually the arcade version of VF1

Except that the GBA had more power. And pretending that a bad port of an entry in a fallen series proves anything? You know better. Come back when you can show me Doom 2 running on an SNES without a Super FX chip. Or show me two mode 7 backgrounds running at the same time. Or manage something as insane as Gunstar SuperHeroes without crippling slowdown and a blue screen when the game inevitably crashes.

Hey, I know a fun test: Virtua Racing was just an unfinished prototype on GBA. Why not put it up against the completely finished Race Drivin' on Super Nintendo? No excuses. May the better machine win.

GBA runs fully 3D games without extra hardware, and runs the actual Doom engine. Something the SNES could not do, even WITH extra chips.

Saturn version is an ugly glitchy mess. They tried to rectify it with Virtua FIghter Remix but since they completely removed real time light-sourcing Remix ends up looking flat and lifeless. Thankfully it still plays great.

Ver a versão do Ps2 não usando as músicas refeitas em versão CD como foi feito no Saturn é triste ,gráficos ótimos mas perdeu no áudio ao qual mantiveram o do arcade ,assim como fizeram com o Sega Rally que no Saturn tem as músicas incríveis.

Fun fact: the reason why the Sega Saturn had its famous last-minute 2D background hardware implemented was not to create a "2D powerhouse" system, which gamers have believed (as a sour grapes rationalization for the PS1's dominance) for the past 25+ years. The large part of the reason why is due to what you see here with their visually choppy Virtua Fighter port for the Saturn. The floor used in the first Saturn Virtua Fighter port was made up using polygons. It's unstable, choppy, and looks like crap. However, Sega knew that 3D fighters were going to be huge (and they were right, and this is also a major reason why they implemented a dual CPU setup, one CPU for each fighter) and that they needed a way to cheaply augment their system so they could have smoother running 3D. They figured correctly that instead of spending valuable CPU/GPU time on rendering polygons for the floor, they could simply employ the same raster techniques that 16-bit systems such as the Super Famicom and Megadrive frequently used to simulate a single plane scaling/rotating (such as with F-Zero.) Hence the redone Virtua Fighter using these new techniques that they released later in the Saturn's life, but the damage was already done. The 2D background layer hardware wasn't limited to simple affine raster transforms. A great deal of the atmospheric and water FX in the Panzer Dragoon series were implemented by clever usage of the 2D background hardware. IIRC, the underwater effects in the Saturn port of Quake also used these techniques. You'll notice that I said "had its famous 2D background hardware implemented" and not "had its famous 2d hardware implemented" because that would suggest they implemented their sprite hardware along with their background hardware. They didn't; the sprite system was there from the beginning. This this why sprites on the system don't interact with the transparency-enabled background layers. That isn't to say that there couldn't be sprite transparency on the Saturn; the hardware was certainly more than powerful enough so that a software sprite engine could have been implemented using the background layers. Hell, the Sega SG-1000 (Master System in North America) was powerful enough to implement a software sprite engine on its background layer (most famously in its Golden Axe port), so the Saturn most certainly could have as well.

I always heard the 3D chip (VDP1) was retrofitted at the last minute. I’m not sure if anything you said was accurate in fact. For instance, the SG-1000 was a consolised micro computer that was released on the same day as the Famicom but was more equal in capability to an Intellivision. It has some nice games but they were very basic and certainly not capable of transparency. Likewise the Sega Mark 3, which was redesigned and released as the Master System but more powerful than the Famicom/NES could no way do transparency. If you are very clever, the Mega Drive can in fact do transparency or you can just use a shadow or highlight colours which will lighten or darken an area, looking very similar to transparency.

Didn't last bronx have 3d backgrounds and use both of saturns 2 Hitachi sh2 chips plus the sh1 (for extra math boost from 💿 board chips) chips? Also what games used both vdp1 and vdp2 chips? Saturn documents show it could do 32 levels transparency / translucency.

@@rustymixer2886 there are 2 SH-2 CPU’s which many develops did not understand how to get both running ie Saturn or 32X Doom. VDP1 handles 3D geometry and lighting and VDP2 handles sprite scaling and rotation, including a single infinite flat plane. I’m not sure what’s going on with transparency on Saturn though. It’s situational.

Lembrando que a versão do Ps2 é somente uma Skin comemorativa do Vf4! A do Saturn não me desce, quem jogou o arcade sempre torceu o nariz p VF1 e Dsyrona no Sat, prefiro muito mais o Remix ou o 2 e o Sega Rally.
