I need this thing in my life... Its funny... I am actually working on an arcade stick for the switch and for the Saturn. I am not sure if you saw this yet, but apparently 8bitdo is about to release Saturn bluetooth controllers. I am extremely tempted to use that as the base of my Saturn arcade stick!

Ironic you mention BT Saturn Controllers. I just read about Retro-bit doing the same thing here... in what seems to be some exact looking replicas. segabits.com/blog/2018/01/10/retro-bit-sega-usb-and-bluetooth-genesis-saturn-and-dreamcast-accessories-revealed/ Is that what you're referring to? And I just watched a YT video on how to make BT controllers with Arduino. There's a lot of room in the sticks, so space would definitely not be a restriction. As far as a base goes, just use a Blast City arcade panel like I show in the latter portion of the video. You can make it exactly how you want it.

The Sega Holic I have things I've collected over the years stored away. I have an extra double 6 button Sega panel ready to replace the double 8 button Saturn panel. I just didn't do it yet.

Thanks for the in-depth overview for this controller. I already knew the buttons were soldered to the PCB, but this controller overall looks absolutely amazing. I won an auction for one last night. I'll be bringing it to conventions for people to play on when I can. It has yellowing, so I hope the retrobrite method will work. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

It's a homage to Sega's awesome arcade history. Glad you got something out of the video. You'll definitely enjoy it. You probably PAID big time. But it's worth it.

Unfortunately, I've read pretty bad things about retrobright. I've read a lot about it and turns out everyone who used it reported that it only lasts for a few months. Even worse, people that formally studied chemistry wrote that the reason of the yellowing has nothing to do with fire retardant bromine, and it's actually due to one of 2 polymers that compose ABS. The method works by basically destroying the polymer. That makes the plastic way weaker and more brittle and exposes deeper layers of the polymer, that will yellow again, but much faster. In the end, if you keep doing it, the plastic will just crumble. You are better off painting it.

I WISH! Importing them to Hawaii is going to be very expensive because of shipping. I saw one on Craigslist years back, and I should have jumped at it. It's why I made these sticks... at least I get part of the feel of the actual arcade to a lesser degree. My dream cab is a Blast City cab with VF4 Evo or VF4 FT.

These seem to yellow over time no matter how much you take care of them, I had to build a huge retrobright station out of the biggest tupperware I was able to find at the nearest household bazaar from my home, I'm now the proud owner of the world's withtest HSS-0130.

Mine is also yellowing bad :( What method did you use? Did you soak it in peroxide?

​@@sivanyc I Installed almost 6 meters of blue led lights on my retrobright station, sprayed the plastic with 120% Peroxide using a pulverizer every day, I did this for almost a week, washed it again to remove any peroxide left, once it was totally dry I sealed it by sprying one coat of transparent "mate" Rust Oleum

I've been searching for a single player panel for my Taito Vewlix for years now. I have a 2P on there now, and have seen others purchase a replacement metal sheet with the 1P version off yahoo japan but I have never had such luck.

saigancat Good luck finding a nice cooy. They always come up on Yahoo Japan Auctions, though the shipping and proxy service prices drive the cost up. Buyee runs promotions though and you can get big discounts on their services. Saturn prices are not slowing, so u might want to act soon. ... and you have the new Wipeout with VR.. so life aint all that bad as I’m jealous of that. 😏

The big issue with this baby is yellowing. The ABS plastic is too prone to that. Mine looks like a burnt biscuit, nowadays. Is there a tutorial on how to open it? I want to try to restore it. I'm thinking about painting the shell.

Don't paint it! You can deyellow it by just leaving it (the yellowed parts) in the sun. This is too big to retrobright. To open, if I remember correctly, just remove the bottom screws, or something like that... I thought I showed how to open this... but I know you'll need to remove the panel to get to everything.

I would actually get Blast City panels as the Astro City panels are cut from the frame of a cabinet! The Blast City ones are the last two sticks that I show and are actual separate pieces that can be unscrewed from the main cabinet. You can cover the holes like I did with plexiglass. Check Yahoo Japan Auctions for these panels. But again, they weigh a ton and are huge, and you'll pay more for shipping than you are for the actual panel. I'd love to be able to built a 2player panel just like the HSS-0130 for emulation use, with the development of run-ahead latency in RetroArch there has never been a better time. Could you show where to source the individual parts and stuff? Would it in fact truly be cheaper than buying a HSS-0130? If so, I'm sold.

HMMM.... No HSS-0310 currently on Yahoo Japan. Ebay has some, but you'll be spending minimum near $500 with shipping. Definitely would be cheaper to just get a panel. I spent about $200-$250 with shipping for the base with panel and sticks straight from a used candy cab on Yahoo Japan. Even if you put new stick parts, still gets you in the $300 range. Beleive me, the candy cab panels will withstand much more punishment. It's about twice as heavy, and again, are made of fiber glass. I used Buyee, and waited for their Half off shipping charge Specials that run occasionally. buyee.jp/yahoo/auction In the "TOYS & GAMES" catergory on the right, chosse "Video Games." And there is an "Arcade" subcategory. Search for the Japanese text for "Blast City" or other candy cab terms like Astro City on Sega Retro and copy and paste to search on Buyee. Example: I go to segaretro.org/Blast_City and copy and paste the Japanese spelling for "Blast City" which is ブラストシティ and paste that in the search. Or you can brose the various arcade sections within Yahoo Japan via Buyee, page by page and search that way.

You can download the Google translate app and though the camera take a picture of it and google will email you back and translate stuff.the app tries to translate live but its pretty janky.
