As someone who's struggling with Network+, these videos are really helpful.

do virtual switches use the mac address of a virtual NIC? or is it just using the ports? are the ports their IP address?
@gormanmasters955111 ай бұрын
Yes. A VNIC is assigned a MAC address in layer 2 of the OSI model "the switching layer". Each MAC address corresponds with a single virtual NIC. Mac addresses pretty much die at the routed interface. They are only needed to address traffic between the Router and the end device, once your traffic hits the router it has to move up to Layer 3 "the routing layer"which will use a TCP/IP address. Also note, Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) which is a layer 2 protocol used to map MAC addresses to IP addresses. All hosts on a network are located by their IP address, but NICs do not have IP addresses, they have MAC addresses. ARP is the protocol used to associate the IP address to a MAC address.

How actually important is having a a working knowledge of common network ports for this exam, and for life as a network technician?
@sethoz223 жыл бұрын
Its relatively useful information for life as a network tech.
@SauceBossRickRoss2 жыл бұрын
dont work as a network tech, but i imagine you could just look up the port numbers.
@805722 жыл бұрын
on the exam you need to generally know a small amount of info about everything regarding networking.. so these videos alone provide enough info. u probably wont need to go in-depth about stuff like network ports

@@A42yearoldARAB i'd do a bit of extra reading on some networking books and see if there are any other network+ resources, these videos generally are pretty good though

With virtual networking, does that mean that the network speed is technically unlimited? Since traffic doesn't really need to go anywhere, everything resides on same physical device.
@duncansiror5033 Жыл бұрын
I suppose it would be limited by the RAM and processing power of the device, just my guess.
@thereallichking533 Жыл бұрын
It's generally capped at 10Gbps, although it can go faster in certain situations
@SuperHtownswag Жыл бұрын
Lmao it def wont be unlimited
@xFlow777 Жыл бұрын
@Duncan Siror I'm really curious what the bottleneck would be, processing power or virtual switches and routers speeds (assuming they even have a limit)
