Hey Bill, one possible blog could be on eye glasses/ spectacles. I am down to my last pair. I thought I was about to have an eye test with an optometrist. The chap had a word and letter card and a bunch of magnification lenses, don’t think he was testing stigmatism. I stopped and politely told him I would be back to buy the frames only. I had an eye test somewhere else and it seamed closer to western standard but still not as rigorous as Australia.
@cambodiyeah1
@cambodiyeah1 10 ай бұрын
I don't know much about this, but there are a few decent optics shops around. As for doing more than testing your eyesight to find the right lenses, there are some actual optometrists in Phnom Penh in Google Maps that are well rated. If you want to take no chances, then a trip to Bangkok would be in order.

Hi there! That's a bit of a tough one. If you're not working and not retiring, there's not really a long term visa option for that. Do you own a business that you can claim to "work" for? If so, you can get a work visa and perhaps your son could be an "employee" and get the same. Thanks,, I'm retired and once had a 10 year China Visa which was cancelled before term because of the Covid pandemic in 2020. Since then I'm back in the USA but not really happy here. Since China/ USA relations soured it doesn't look possible to return to China. Since I'm familiar with Southern China and Vietnam (because of exit-entry experience, I like Vietnam, but Cambodia may be easier for a long term Visa. But, I still have questions on how to get a Cambodia Visa within the USA where I live.. So, I'll have to listen to your podcasts to learn more on the beginning stages of acquiring a Visa to enter Cambodia. Still not clear on how to do this. Thanks for this podcast for it is helpful..

You don't need to get a visa beforehand. Just go to the official site at www.evisa.gov.kh/ and fill in your info about a a month or two before you leave. No earlier than that. Then bring your $35 USD (crisp, clean notes). The site will generate a QR code that you scan at the entry desk, then you pay, they stamp your passport, and you're in. Just make sure you're selecting the E (ordinary, not tourist) visa when you do this if you're planning on staying more than 30 days.

Need a sanity check: What do you think of "aging in place" with local "live-in" Kmer help ? Is this crazy ⁉ Or practical and, also a wonderful opportunity for local Kmer employment too ⁉ The people appear genuinely kind and appreciative... To crystalize my question... I am NOT talking about formal assisted living facilities... I am talking about taking in Kmer live-ins to do that job at an owned or rented Siem Reap Villa or house......

I would say that if you're in a situation where you can't care for yourself, Cambodia may not be the best option due to the healthcare situation being rather spotty. Thailand, specifically Bangkok or Manila in the Philippines would have much better health care and options for a caretaker. I haven't heard of caretaker jobs in Cambodia for locals. Maybe in Phnom Penh, but this is not my area of expertise. If you're just looking for more of a cleaning service type of thing, there are many apartments available with regular cleaning services and they cost about the same as the ones that don't.

Regular apartments generally require at least a 6-month lease, but most hotels, guesthouses, etc. will let you stay a few weeks. You can usually book those online either directly or through a site like Booking.com, but just be careful with 3rd party booking sites as complications can arise if the hotel or guesthouse in question cancels for some reason. If you do use a 3rd party site, you may want to call the place and verify the booking, just to be sure they're aware of it.

The visa on arrival will still exist, but the way you fill out the form is what will change. You'll have to fill it out online beforehand, but can still must go to the desk to get the stamp in your passport on arrival. So, you're not sending in your visa beforehand like you'd do for a visa that must be done before arrival, it's just the filling out of your info for the form that must be done online after that date.

Morbid Question Bill: My family and I had previously long thought about Mexico to retire and "age in place" until the end... But Mexico is on a bad trajectory in many ways... Also, the kidnappings of expats for extortion (especially those that do not end well) is most unsettling... Can you advise what the WORST things you have heard of happening... Specifically: Has Cambodia been "infected" by this now rampant "expat kidnappings" ⁉ like Mexico and South America are and have been (!) experiencing... ❗ Also, how often you hear about burglaries in Siem Reap...

I'm actually going to be doing a video soon about safety in Cambodia, but I will let you know that kidnappings are almost unheard of in Cambodia. Tourists and expats are the main part of Cambodia's economy and the authorities come down quite hard on anyone who messes with them. Violent crime in general against foreigners is quite rare.

Wow. . . this question!! Asia is a civilized place!! Spanish culture brough human suffering, murder, and misery everywhere it spread. You won't find anything like that Latin American evil in Asia, as soon as the people start to exit poverty the humane qualities go through the roof. I had absolutely no problems in Cambodia, the few risky parts are really made clear to everyone: don't go on riverside DRUNKED alone late into the night. That's like literally about it. I walked so called dangerous border towns with Vietnam into the small hours BY MY SELF and never felt the slightest bit of risk or danger.

I'll use the recommended visa extension agencies in the description. Just a few questions if you don't mind: 1. Is it true that after June 30, 2024, you have to apply for an BV online instead of applying upon arrival? 2. Does the e-visa site require a letter of invitation, patent certificate, or investment project as shown in the e-visa site? 3. Assuming I get a visa extension for the first year, is it possible to extend it again for another year? Subscribed. Thanks in advance for your answers and suggestions!

Hi there! I'm glad you're finding help here!. To answer your questions: 1. It's the arrival info that must be filled out online. I suggest filling it out abut 5-7 days before arrival. If something goes wrong, they have tablets at the immigration desk to fill out everything there. You can use the site or the app: arrival.gov.kh/ Just make sure that when you apply, it's the the E (Ordinary) visa rather than tourist. Then, after about 2 weeks you can go for the EB Business visa extension at one of the agencies. 2. None of those kinds of things are needed for the business visa extension. When you go to one of the agencies, they'll help you with the work permit info and you'll just need to show proof of employment from your employer. There may have been some changes, so check with this Facebook group to be sure: facebook.com/groups/cambodiavisaandworkpermitgroup 3. If you get the EB business extension or the ER retirement one, yes, you can renew year after year indefinitely. I hope this helps!

It's a bit of a grey area, but if you're not working for a company in Cambodia, they don't really have a way to track or record your income.
