Fitting a dual-pass radiator and custom fan shroud to the Raudi Metro Mid-engine Rover Metro Project

In this episode, I review how I finished mounting the roof mounted intercooler and then move on to mounting the dual-pass alloy radiator with a custom fan shroud.

Very nicely done sir! I need to make a fan shroud for my Civic also. Quick tip- If you drill or cut holes in the shroud around the fan and cover them with rubber flaps, not as much pressure will build up in the shroud while driving at speed and you still get the same good cooling at idle and low speeds. The fan sucks the flaps closed at idle and when you get up to speed and the shroud becomes a restriction the pressure in the shroud pushes the flaps open, allowing air to escape much more freely than if it all had to go through the fan. The more of the radiator is covered by the shroud the more this will help.

That's a interesting technique with the tin snips. I never thought of using a reverse grip. Makes sense.

To be honest, I did it without thinking because my grip was fatiguing, and it worked, so that’s good 😃👍🏻

Hi, I'd personally go for some sort of flexible mounting setup for any rad - especially a fabricated aluminium one (never had good results with fabbed ally rads in the long term - they always seem to fatigue & leak but the stock ones are virtually bomb proof!). Always pay attention to sealing the fresh air inlet to the rad too as otherwise hot air just recirculates & causes low speed overheating or at least a dramatic loss of effective core surface area. Looking good though!

This might be a silly question ,but do you need to get an independent engineers report for your work? Looks like a good project.

It would require an SVA, but should not be a big challenge.

Did you think you could remove the centre brace to the slam panel now, as it would improve airflow to rad, because you have the two extra supports to the slam panel I think there would be enough strenght.
