Great videos! I am inheriting a '74 Midget which will be my first restoration! Your content has been very helpful as I prepare.

I like the ideas you proposed and the move of the filler to the side QP was on my list as well... very intersted in following the rearend suspension work...

I think that's where they should have been originally. It's one of the first things I did to the v6 Midget project.

Like the idea of moving the filler, but I have an Ashley hardtop and can’t think where else it could go. Would rather not see it at all and have it hidden in the boot, but not sure that’s legal.

I've been watching from epidode 1, but this music is doing my head in. I have to have enough volume to hear you talking, but then the music kicks in, and bloody near deafens me.

Use the "Settings" to get auto-generated subtitles, then mute the sound. You can read the information, while listening to your taste in music at the volume you prefer.

Thanks for taking the time to talk about the plan. I’m looking forward to seeing the work you carry out to the components while you await media blasting. With regards to the engine are you going to port and polish the head, if looking to fit a sports exhaust? Also do you have a plan regarding the front grill, given the bumper mounts can be cut back. As always looking forward to more videos and keep em coming. Mat

I’m curious to the cost of media blasting?
@VisionAutoGarage6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mat, I may do a basic port if I replace the manifold with a long centre branch one. The cast manifold is very restrictive. Front grill - Ashley Hinton makes a grill I really like, and I have one on the v6 Midget.
@mathewcozens50446 жыл бұрын
Do you have a link to the grill, be good to see. Also if you do a basic port would be great to have a detailed video of the process. Something I would like to try. Thanks

I'm paying £780 for blasting and etch priming from a local firm.

Do you sell these projects after finishing them? Restomod, does this mean you will change to a single carb and performance exhaust keeping the 1500cc engine?
@VisionAutoGarage6 жыл бұрын
Hey, this project will be for sale yes. Not all of them get sold - the V6 Midget for example is my personal project and won't be sold...ever :)

The obvious question now arises: Do you already have a potential buyer for the midget once it has been finished? Another question: Before you send it off for sandblasting, can you go round the car highlighting the weak points on the chassis. You see, you did quite extensive work on the (curb-side) left-hand side of the chassis, but none on the right-hand side. Will you do this (particularly the A-pillar)? Or is it not necessary because perhaps UK cars rot more on the left than the right?
@VisionAutoGarage6 жыл бұрын
I'll overview the chassis in the next episode for you. I'm not concerned about any twisting or structural issues during blasting, the body was reasonably solid and I have only improved the strength.

As the owner/restorer of a Austin Healey bug eye, I can say for certain that the right hand side had far more rust on the floor pans than the left. All I could think of was, given that it sat open during rain, the crown of the road tips the car to the right and puddles inside the cabin would have been more greater. Holes in the floor pan on the left side probably did a pretty good job draining the rain water from that side. In the UK where the cars are parked so that that tip would have a puddle on the left side, again because of the crown of the road, it may very well be that there wasn't that much repair work needed on the right.

i hate waiting! ;-) Seriously, did I hear you say you were going to lower an MG? I'm trying to wrap my head around that one, as I consider the MG to be the epitome of the butt-dragger! Is the MG lower than an a Miata, natively? I used to have a Miata, and that was close enough to the pavement for my tastes, anyway! :-)
@VisionAutoGarage6 жыл бұрын
Yep, she'll have to be lowered because on stock springs and without the heavy bumper it will be several inches higher than stock. I think the Miata is a little lower than a standard Midget.
@just-dl6 жыл бұрын
thanks! does that mean, it'll roughly "average out" lowered from the 'several inches higher' point, thus w/in a standard deviation of where it would've started? Looking forward to this series! And, if you can sell to the states.... :-)
@VisionAutoGarage6 жыл бұрын
+D L yes it should end up lower than stamdard. Of course we can sell to the states 👍🏻 its worth checking any local laws that might effect an import
