In this episode the MG Midget shell gets media blasted and I see the full extent of poor repairs and rust.

A couple of things I have learnt here: - Media blasting with dry ice produces less dust, as it's only the paint that becomes dust - the guy needs to set up a portable sealable tent with vacuum dust collection, and an air feed to his mask - only media blasting shows the true extent of the rust and corrosion A couple of questions: - did the blasting blow away old filler? - how did old filler fare in comparison to new filler? - it seems to leave a grey coating that was removed by your rotary wire brush attachment. How firm or solid is this coating? Is there need for fixation afterwards or is it strong enough as a base for the post-treatment /primer? - would it have helped to douse the car in paint-remover the day before media blasting (especially for the underseal? Yet another excellent video. For me this is the most relevant and comprehensive series of videos ever! I can't wait for the next one.

He does have an air fed mask, but for the purpose of the boot lid video he didnt use it - I'm not sure why! The blasting did remove filler, it just took several passes which it not ideal for time purposes, and increases the chance of distortion, which I have found none of yet. The grey finish is just bare metal. The surface is left textured, which is perfect for paint adherence. The wire wheel simply makes it smoother. Paint remover may have helped yes, removing underseal definitely would have saved time, or I could have paid more to have them spend longer. Thanks for watching :)

It's almost therapeutic watching the paint disappearing!

I rarely see blasters on you tube using a pressure cleaner with a downstream sand injector. The water/air cools the metal and the sand makes super quick work of anything. This car would take an hour max. When done use an air wand to blow dry the trapped water (which is minimal at 3500 psi.) No dust at all to deal with.

Tests your nerves when it reveals that it’s in far worse shape than it looked .... and it nearly always is it seems !

Brilliant stuff. Could you give us a rough idea of cost to get the car media blasted? Under £500?? over a thousand pounds? A clue to the cost would be fantastic. Thanks

I got a trade price, but normal cost for this service would be in the region of £1000.

Was there any warping?

Wow, that body is a patchwork quilt of patch panels, we would refer to that body as a "basket case".
