Join us as we visit Aigle - the capital of the Chablais wine-producing region in southeast canton of Vaud Switzerland.
Known for it’s beautiful castle in the middle of the vineyards, Aigle lies on the east edge of the Rhône valley, at the foot of the Swiss Alps. It’s beautiful wine museum, grape vines, and the streets smell of red wine as you pass the cellars of local winegrowers makes this town a must-visit for any wine lovers.
Home to heritage sites of national significance, Aigle is the perfect stop for an intimate tour of wine history and the surrounding history of the local wine. This hidden gem houses Aigle Castle, now a wine museum called Musée de la Vigne et du vin et de l'étiquette. Right next to it is a large 500 years old tithe barn known as Maison de la dîme. The Swiss Reformed Church of Saint-Maurice is also listed as Swiss heritage site of national significance.
However, this place is not just for wine-lovers. It also has several parks, including a rope park (Parc Aventure) and a car museum with several rare vintage vehicles.This quaint Swiss town also houses the World Cycling Centre - a velodrome with a 200 metre track, making it a fantastic place for a cycling holiday!

That is the best when the kids have something to show other kids at a historical re-enactment. Really engages them in the items at the torture devises table lol. I think they keep the wine to themselves lol.

Over 95% of Swiss wine is consumed domestically. It does tend to be a bit expensive when you find it elsewhere but reasonable prices can be found at Swiss wineries. There used to be a few Swiss labels available through Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board stores. I’ll bet you can find some in NYC. On a couple of occasions, we’ve grabbed some reasonably priced Chasselas at Zurich Airport duty free stores.

Yeah the white wines from the Valais are well know but I still have yet to see them in other countries.

I have a feeling it was because the Swiss has some sort of protected status of their wine so that is why there isn't any Swiss wine available, and/or Swiss production of wine isn't that much for the global demand/ France is just nearby and famous?

I think it’s mainly because the labour cost is so high that it would be extremely expensive to buy/export and the demand would be low since there are so many other countries with lower wages and good wine. Cheers!🍷

Yeah, its a problem when you no longer have peasants to stomp the grapes. Then you have to pay minimum wage which jacks up the price. The episode of I Love Lucy where they stomp the grapes is a classic.

Your first theory about Swiss wine seems to be the most likely.. I wonder if the Swiss government subsidizes the wine for the Swiss people? I know the EU subsidizes a lot of their farm production.. I know this video was before Covid but it seem by the look of the age of the girls that this was like 2/3 years ago.. Chloe today looks way older then she does here..
