Actually, the fact the locals don't speak English is a plus and not a minus. It's an opportunity to learn a few words in their native tongue and wow them. People's eyes and hearts always open up when they hear foreigners speak their own language.

Why don't you go to Hong Kong or Shanghai to eat Chinese food? I have never seen anyone who travels to a country just to eat the dishes from another. Are you trying to advertise those Chinese restaurants? Westerners who come here normally try some Vietnamese foods besides having their usual meals of pizzas, hamburgers, sandwiches or pasta.

FYI the exact name of that Buddhist Saint is the Goddess of Mercy ( not the Lady Buddha ) . The Vietnamese call her Quan Am and the Chinese Kuan Yin. She is the equivalent of the Virgin Mary for the Catholics . However she was not the mother of Buddha like Saint Mary , the Jesus Christ's mother . So far the Christians never call Santa Maria the Lady Jesus Christ do they ? In Thailand they don't worship her because Buddhism of that country is different from Buddhism in Vietnam , China , Tibet , Japan and Korea . It's the Theravada branch ( the original Buddhism present mostly in Sri Lanka , Thailand , Myanmar , North of India , Laos , Cambodia ) quite different from the Mahayana branch . It's like Catholicism and Protestantism in Christianity . The protestants don't venerate Saint Mary and the other saints like the Catholics do . BTW that Goddess of Mercy 's statue is not the tallest in VN . There is actually another one higher ( 71 m high ) in Lâm Ha district nearby Dalat . And they are building a third one higher ( over 100 m high ) in Quang Ngai province which will be finishing in 2025 . The Vietnamese Catholics have also built a huge statue of the Virgin Mary on a mountain in Long Khanh / Ninh Thuân province that you should check-out as well. Religion wise VN is one of the most open and liberal countries in the world . All believes are accepted and respected here . There is no discrimination and hatred between the different confessions . Besides pagodas you can see in our country many huge and beautiful Catholic and Protestant churches , mosques and Hindu temples as well . Unfortunately many ignorant foreigners always think that in VN all religions are restricted because it's a communist country . Some of them make negative comments on purpose for political reasons to discredit the image of our country .

True! The reason why was, super crowded, a super touristic place and you need to pay 33€ to go there… 🙃
