I am from the Czech republic from Prague and when I see something like this video, It makes me very proud. Nothing is better then strangers love a place where you live. It is nice to hear that tourists from many countries like this city. And thank you for that :) CZ is small country so we have to be proud of every little things :) Great video and sorry for my english.

+Vincent 79 Basic path: Prague Castle - then walk the way down to the Charles Bridge - follow to the Old Town Square and Venceslav square from there. There are many places to suit different tastes, many museums, opera, party places, some great restaurants. Beer not to be forgotten as well as local food ("svitchkova" or duck) with dumplings. Enjoy your time in Prague ;)

There is a mirror maze that is kind of cool and in downtown www.maze.cz/ (another one is in Petrin area in Petrin Tower (aka small Eifell tower ) but is not so good. One hour Boat trip can be great fun too and with excellent views of Prague Castle. Also check this page - skip the "Sea world" as it is small and not worth the visit. www.myczechrepublic.com/prague/children_entertainment.html

We have been to Prague and the Czech Republic twice during Christmas time. It is truly magical! Mark talks about seeing the sunrise on the Charles Bridge - don't miss it at nightfall. We were there as the lamplighter passed down both sides in his top had, tails and white scarf, lighting the gaslamps with his long pole with a hook on the end. This, with the swans swimming in the river below and the fairy-tale castle/cathedral gleaming from above, made it truly magical.

We were in Prague the last week of May, 2014. It has the history of Rome, the architecture of a Florence and the romance of Venice with a little Disneyland thrown in! The duck, cabbage and dumplings were my favorite as well plus the beer. If you have not been to AgHarta Jazz club, check it out! Great music! We look forward to going back. We found it more economical for us to pay in Czech Crowns instead of Euros as we got a better exchange rate for US$.

My first day in Prague was full of paranoia as our tour guide told us to watch our pockets. Apparently pick pocketing was bound to happen. By my second day in Prague I felt like a pro at keeping my stuff safe and it was the perfect practice for visiting other places in Europe where there would also be pick pocketing. With that said, after visiting Berlin, Prague, Krakow, and Budapest, I have to say Prague was my favourite. The Czechs are doing something right that just makes me want to live there

All I can think about is going back. It's such an amazing city, I'm even considering learning Czech as the country itself seems like it would be a great place to move to. In the meantime though, the city has ignited a passion for travelling and I've already got several trips around Europe booked.

If you are white, you will be welcome. There live thousands of expats in Prague (expat = a forreigner who moved to the country and lives there as an inhabitant, working here etc.). One expat is a part of our family. If you are not white then gtfo cuz strange nations are only destroying western europe culture and pull the old residents away from their countries. Nobody wants these folks here. No matter if they are good humans or not, the next generation after them is usually a bunch of junks and troublemakers. Its a logic, no worthy soul want to spawn in black body when the life comes to existence. Only junk souls do that. Thats why even good immigrants have terrible children. However there are a few black strangers living in the city, they are connected to drugs and prostitution and shady activities and people look at them with hateful sights. This country will be safe as long as these folks will be strictly hated there and will not feel well enough there to move there. I was personally in Britain few years ago, lived in suburb and i felt there really unsafe, seeing niggas with long knifes walking around at night. I will never come back there as the cities are polluted with human waste. The same about Vienna, in 90s it was a nice city. Now there are too many strangers at public places and dont feel comfortable there anymore. And about racism - yes czechs are racists and xenophobes. No matter what kind of bullshit you can hear from official places (bribed trashy politicians and pseudo political correctness), people in central/eastern Europe have their own opinion and experience. Better safe than sorry. As western europeans already have noticed.

+omphus1 Even more on a bright autumn day - me and my sister went there at the begining of October once (end of September / begining of October is usually nice "Indian Summer" days here in the Czech Republic, though not always) - the forests on the hills are turning colourful and it's just awesome. Karlštejn is another tourist trap, though - and a lot of what you see in the shops along the way has next to nothing to do with Czech history and culture and many of the owners seem to be Russian (just like in the Old Town in Prague). It's got important history, of course, but it's nearness to Prague means it's very much on the beaten track. For a more thorough Czech castle / chateau experience, I would recommend places like Pernštejn (awesome architecture!), Konopiště, Český Šternberk, Ploskovice (practically unknown by foreign tourists, a bit in disrepair from the outside, no good places to eat, but still so worth it), a number of chateaus in Moravia like Buchlovice, Bučovice, Boskovice (we're always amused by the similarity of those three names; the places are all different). You could get into places with much less English speaking people, but also see things you can't see in every guidebook (but occasionally can see in movies!).
@omphus19 жыл бұрын
Yep I've been to most of those places you have mentioned as my wife is Czech so we are often in the country. So many cool unknown places in the middle of nowhere and often a pub nearby with great food and beer :D

For foodies, here're a few suggestions to make you love Prague even more: Lokál restaurants are some of the best, serves fresh Pilsner. For a bit upmarket, I like Pod Věží, literally under the tower (Little Quarter side). U Kunštátů for a huge selection of beers (building has a Romanesque cellar, once the dwelling of a Hussite king). Naše maso, fab deli.

I don't think you can avoid the tourist sprawl anywhere you go. However I did ask a young person who worked in the tourist area, where I should go to meet some young locals. I hit up the bar that night and spoke to some young Czechs for hours. (They all spoke english.) I agree with this man, the Czech people were very friendly, especially the young people.

@Vztahovacna7 жыл бұрын

Incredibly cheap with excellent food. Public transport very good. Food. Beer. Architecture. Charles bridge. The castle. All wonderful. We aim to return. We could live there. Avoid the main areas for food but there are lots of reasonably priced mixed in. Pork knuckle. Will try the duck next time. We stayed at Villa Schwaiger near a large park in the embassy area. You just made me smile a lot! My husband and I are spending New Years eve in Prague this year. We were surprised by the prices. I mean of course everything is more expensive during the holidays but holy crap our hotel is killing us! I cant wait though it looks like such a wonderful city. Thanks for the tips!

I live in Czech Republic in city called Mladá Boleslav, it´s around 50 kilometers far from Prague. Takže to není moc daleko od prahy ale máme tam automobilku Škoda která tvoří asi 1/3 města, a jinak bydlím hned vedle Mladé Boleslavi ve vesnici která se nazývá Plazy.

Loved Prague! I recommend a river cruise in the evening to see the city from a different angle.

I was living in Prauge for 5 years, out of all the EU cities, I'd rank it top 1, not only I was there for quite some time, but only it's too great, people, culture, buildings and beer(which I miss the most). If you've never been there, but a ticket, take your ass right off, you won't regret.

I'm visiting Prague this year along with Vienna and Budapest. The things you are mentioning that are bad are common to many cities in Europe that I've visited.

Hi all, I have been living in Prague for my whole life (25 yeras now) and I really like the summary this video makes. I simply agree with all of it. Just to add a few things: Prague is safe. There are no particular places to avoid, maybe only the areas around the Main Railway station. It is full of junkies (this is historical, because in the early 90s many people from eastern countries ended up here on their way to the west). Not that anyone would kill you, but you can be robbed. But do not worry, just don't be dumb and think and it will be ok. Same for other places - you don't find a ghetto that is really dangerous in here, but again, think and don't be dumb. Take care of your personal things, many picpockets can happen. Especially when you travel back from the party drunk as hell. Second, I love beer and if I can recommend, do not take Gambrinus, Budvar, Staropramen or Pilsner. Yes, they are Czech brands, but now we call it Eurobeer, it all tastes like Heineken or so. It is not bad, but it is nothing special. In Prague, especially in the suburbs there are a few local breweries having their own beer, which I only recommend - Jihomestsky pivovar, Hostivar, Pivovar Luziny. And last but not least - avoid U Fleku restaurant - it is just a tourist place, the beer is not bad, but for their price not worthy - and the service is so arogant. They don't care about you, because their pub is in every tourist guide, and next day another tourists will come regardless to your references. If you have any questions, just ask here or by private message, I would love to help anyone. Enjoy Prague.

I am sorry for late response. I actually do not know many hostels, I know that Az Hostel should be fine. And supermarkets have similar or same prices all over the city. I prefer Globus, but there are only like three of them in the suburbs. Billa is quite fine, Tesco is OK. Albert is bad, but some thing are ok in there.

I'm not a beer drinker, but father likes Budvar; I think out of the four Dan named, it's the preferable one. But yes, totally, the smaller brands are much likelier to be *the* Czech beer... Lidl is here, too, but I think you can only find it at the outskirts. Albert is the cheaper supermarket out of the other three; Billa is a little bit pricier (not by much), but also tends to have wider offer and better quality. But the offer also depends on how large the local supermarket you've happened to find is... I don't remember about Prague, but you can also find Interspar and Kaufland in this country. It's been a while since I was in either, but my overall impression is quite good. And Penny Market, which prides itself on carrying a lot of Czech products, although to tell the truth, I think that's mostly in comparison to Lidl (which carries nearly none Czech brands) because they are more or less in the same market slot (also usually to be found at the outskirts). Albert has its own line of bio products - where I'm inclined to doubt the truthfulness of the "bio" label, but it means it carries some things that I think are otherwise often difficult to find in Czech supermarkets. And if I remember correctly, Interspar has probably the best choice of cheeses. Overall, I think even large Czech supermarkets have, sadly, less of a wide choice than comparably smaller supermarkets in e.g. the Baltic countries. In terms of food, Czechs are quite conservative, and it shows. What we have a fairly nice choice of is, for some inexplicable reason, yoghurts, with both local and international brands. Practically as a rule, the local ones are much better, although they lean heavily towards the high fat content end of the spectrum; if you don't like that, take Hollandia - which, despite the name, is a Czech brand. It's more expensive than most, but a) the cup is a bit larger, b) it's just great. Oh, and people with diabetes, you're looking for the "DIA" label, and people with gluten intolerance, you're looking for "bet lepku" or "bezlepkový".

Beer is a popular subjekt of arguing in Czech, so my advise will be the opposite:) Don't be a beer snob drinking only IPAs from microbreweries (which are basicaly the same all over the world) and try some good old Staropramen, Pilsner or Svijany in local pubs! Just avoid the tourist traps and try the local places (usually easy to recognize - no Russian menu, big sign claiming "Typical Czech cuisine" and pictures of food in the front;) ).

Yeah! I was definitely a party tourist and loved it. Prague is one of my favourite cities in Europe too! I hate Paris (So does my girlfriend, and she's French), but I also love Rome. Top 3 are: London Rome Prague HANDS DOWN!!!! This place is so cheap to drink. Seriously it makes Eurotrip look kind of accurate.

I loved Prague, but there is one thing that i'd add to the not liking part - it's the smoking inside. In most places in Europe it has already been banned, but in when you go for a beer or a coffee in Prague, you end up coming home smelling like an ashtray... A thing that would be on my top 5 love list is David Cerny's art and how it integrates in the city. I loved going hunting for it, and discovering other awesome gems while doing that :)
