Chief Osceola and Renegade (the horse). In the past, the person who was Chief Osceola has actually been part of the Seminole tribe. The relationship between FSU and the Seminole nation is why we are not pressured more about the warrior and Native American cheers, dress, etc. Glad y’all saw The Marching Chiefs. Great organization and super fun to be a part of while a student and alum. Excited for Brennan to be a part of the traditions. And, yes, 2013 was an amazing year at FSU! I still have the schedule poster from that year. Maybe in the next couple of years, the program will correct itself. The other sports are fun too. Basketball is a blast (being ACC), soccer, baseball, softball…any of it is fun. Go Noles!

@@cheridyrazor1939 I am old school AIM and I feel sad whenever I see our cultures appropriated as mascots for sport. We have an issue with the Seminole Tribe of Florida who apparently feel differently about FSU using their identity for their mascot. The Seminole Nation in Oklahoma opposes the use of the Osceola mascot. In the meantime if the Donnellys were good NDN allies they would take the time to at least find out who the mascot is, what his and the tribes history is and respect the favor that the Seminole Tribe in Florida has granted them. Everyone in sport should consider how it is that of all the cultures on the planet American teams use only NDNs as mascots and what it would be like if other cultures were to be used like Jews, Blacks and Southern White Crackers.

Yeah, he did make that blunder, didn't he. haha However, American Indians are still referred to as Indians even though they're technically not from the country of India. As far as Osceola and Renegade, it's not clear to me whether it's actually a Seminole indian on the horse representing the warrior Osceola, but either way, it is in celebration and in honor of the Seminole tribe as a whole - the ONLY American Indian tribe to never have been conquered, and the warrior Osceola. As far as the mad elder, FSU has the full endorsement of the Seminole tribes both here in Florida, and in Oklahoma. So there's no need to be offended.
