For anyone watching who thinks that the butlers are creepier than necessary, there's a video on CDawgVA's channel featuring the same place. They're more candid and relaxed there. It's just that Time to Travel doesn't speak in her ASMR videos, so their interactions just don't translate as well. Also, I believe the scolding part is meant to be playful. You have to keep in mind that the conversation has to be translated, and Japanese language doesn't have the same inflections as English.

I went to this same cafe several years ago with my friend and my husband. My poor husband got up to use the restroom and it was back in this little hallway. When he came out, a girl sitting at one of the other tables was standing at the entrance of the hallway and blocking him from going past. She was wearing a really elaborate red gown that took up the whole hallway and seemed to be really into the whole experience. Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure my husband thought that we were just going out to grab an afternoon snack and I dragged him into this place... To give you an idea of him, his favorite time of year is fall because that's when American college football season starts. Anyway. Hubby didn't know a word of Japanese and this girl was clearly waiting for one of the butlers to come escort her. He's desperately staring at me like wth do I do bc no one's coming to get this girl back to her seat and I'm gesturing like, dude, give her your arm and take her there yourself if you're so desperate to come back and watch our butler sweat through his suit because he lost at rock-paper-scissors and got stuck with the gaijin table. Finally, someone noticed and handled it. Then, at the end, they stopped us from leaving and the gentleman at the front was radio-ing to someone and I thought, oh god, did we not pay the bill right or something, but then a gaggle of butlers came up with a linen-lined silver tray upon which there sat... a gross, dirty American penny one of us must have dropped on the floor by accident at our table. Overall, a surreal afternoon. A++ service!! Would go again.

I am sure gaijin don't scare the butlers so much. Me and my friends (all gaijin) used to go there all the time. We even got special gift like for our 10th visit and stuff like that. We always had a great experience. (However, we were all fluent in Japanese so there is that. 😊) One time, we were the very last table to leave and all of the butlers lined up in two rows as each gave us a very respectful "goodbye" as we walked through the middle. It was awesome Our group consisted of me (a black girl), a chinese american, a muslim, and a VERY tall white girl. The most they did was ask if we wanted a menu in English 😊 Also, I am suprised they opened in 2006. I moved to Japan in 2008. That would mean I have been going there practically since the beginning! Went to this cafe in 2019 and got what was probably a rookie butler and it was the funniest experience ever! The entire time, the butler was fighting giggles with us and towards the end of the service, finally broke down laughing. I’m sure it was because we were so enthused about the whole place (we could be a handful lol). It was such a fun and relaxed experience and they did their best to speak English with a friend who didn’t understand Japanese, which was so sweet. Also gave her an English menu. We did have to ring a bell to use the restroom and ring that same bell to have our tea poured and food served. It was a great time. Would definitely go back if I could get a reservation. 😂

I love that full tea set. My mother and I had something like that when we went to a place called The Mad Hatter's in Anoka, MN. The tea list there was quite extensive, so it was a great experience all around. I love how proper the butlers were behaving. The contrast with the maids is actually quite interesting given the role of butlers and maids in both western and eastern households. Maids were usually the ones in charge of looking after the kids and are sometimes even chatting up the lady of the house...hence why the maids at the cafe are always so high energy. Meanwhile, the butler was the one who is usually trying to maintain a sense of order and properness in the house...hence why we see the butlers here acting with a sense of directness and poise. It really does give the feel of enjoying a high class tea or meal.

Children were looked after by a nanny or a nurse and if she had any assistant it was a nurserymaid who as a rule did not do other work. Other maids were not in charge of childcare but maybe in a small house with many young children one might be borrowed to push a pram. I don't know where you come from but chatting up in English where I come from, and everywhere else I've heard it used, means talk to with intent to have sexual intercourse with and that was not a maid's duty to the ladies of the house.
@gamemasteranthony2756 Жыл бұрын
@@igrim4777 I meant "chatting up" as in "gossiping". I have heard there was sometimes casual conversation with the lady of the house, usually regarding something they heard in town while running chores, though...am I mistaken?

Just so people understand the etiquette you never use a knife to open a scone. Ever. It’s always broken open by hand. If you cannot open it, it’s the chefs fault. Also when you are sitting at a table you never pick your saucer up with your teacup, only by itself. If you’re standing and you’re offered tea then you are expected to hold the saucer.

As an English person who has frequented traditional tea rooms like the famous Betty's in Harrogate, I must commend the high tea selection and presentation, though it has a Japanese flavour to it, most of it wouldn't look out of place at all, especially the scones and finger sandwiches. It's easier to cut the scone in half with a knife, and put a thin layer of butter on first (I didn't see the butter on your plate) which acts like a base, then a layer of jam and then cream. I think it might seem less intense if there were other guests having the same experience, at the same time, the attention would make me feel a bit awkward especially with eating, Butlers are meant to be non intrusive and discreet lol. Fascinating though.

I think my own politeness might get in the way even if it is roleplay, LOL. Every time Iori-San said “I have kept you waiting,” I thought “not at all!” And when he hands you the plates that are already there and pours more tea from the pot in front of you, I think I would feel incredibly lazy not doing those things by myself. @@QueenMarieAntoinette-tp1wx I believe it's a roleplay thing. In most otome (girl-oriented storytelling) games, butlers also often act as etiquette teachers, especially toward masters and mistresses that they've served from childhood. Incredible calm atmosphere, unlike the extremely loud maid video (too much talk and energy for my own good), i would visit a place like this probably, just because i like the Butler theme more.

My favorite part is when he puts the fork onto the supportive piece gently. Wish they showed the rest of the utensils too. It was very comforting. Same does the wine glass.

I would simply cease to exist. The moment I entered the establishment I would be flustered and feel like a FL straight out of a Shojo. They're THAT good at their jobs.

I don't know why I was recommended this video, but I felt compelled to watch it. Very strange. It reminds me of the time that I visited Chicago with my father when I was a child. We arrived late at night, and almost all the downtown restaurants were closed. The only one we could find that was open was an Italian restaurant. Upon entering, there were no other customers, and it seemed like the place was closed. They fixed our food, which I remember being unimpressive, and the two staff members there seemed like mobsters. This wasn't a themed restaurant either. But coming back to this video, I'm getting those vibes. I would feel very uncomfortable going into a completely empty and totally quiet restaurant. Would have been more interesting to see it while it is busy.

Someone below pointed out that their interaction was like an otome gane with the long silence and the "MC" responding with texts. Just realised it and it's adorable
