I went on a 3 hour tour with a former FLDS MEMBER. I asked why the houses weren’t finished and brought up that I heard they weren’t finished because of tax reasons. He told me it was not because of tax purposes. It was because the church owned the property the house was built on through the UEP. And it was because they were not allowed by church “policy” to take out a loan to pay for anything for the home. So the house was only to be paid for in cash.

@@autumn5852Sounds like they didn't have enough cash to finish the house. With a prohibition on loans, they would have to wait until they saved enough money.

We passed through Hilldale and Colorado City on the way to and from Lake Powell and I always wondered why there were so many huge unfinished homes there. I knew there were Mormons there but not that they were FLDS. So interesting.

Sam's double-take was fun to see. But I wish the new residents had just painted out the white paint on "Zion." The fence had such permanence, I bet it would have become valued as a fascinating historical artifact eventually.

The Southern Baptist church that my family attended for a while (with less than 100 people) had "righteous people pews" and "the other pews". Every church/cult has them. It makes no sense.

If your father was David Kilgrow Zitting where does the Zitting -Wyson come in? Was your mother a Wyson? I thought they gave the middle name as the mother's maiden name and the last name from the father? For instance, if the mother's name was Mary Tyler and the father was John Jones - the kid might be named Samuel Tyler Jones, but your group seems to have hyphened the names?

I think they mentioned in the past that his father is still trying to get back in by being on his best behaviour for the church and since Sam is an apostate (ex-flds) it wouldnt look good to the church. They think apostates are worse than people who were never flds so if the church found out his father, who is already being reprimanded, is talking to "sinners" or apostates then they wouldnt be too happy. As for the house, i think it might be seen as going against the church if he were to move into a home that was previously possession of the church. Also i heard most (if not all) of the flds moved elsewhere and i assume his father would still want to remain somewhat close to active members. On that note if his father isnt going to take the house i think Sam or one of his siblings should definitely look into gettting it. It's my understanding that if you can prove you lived there at some point that you just have to pay the outstanding taxes to claim ownership. Even if it's just used as an investment/rental property i think it would be worth it.
