Excited to see where this series goes. As someone who had to go to church until I was 17, and whose entire extended family on both sides is Mormon, it'll be interesting to see your perspective. My family is alright with me and most of my few relatives who left the church, we didn't get disowned, but that's a reality for many. And yet when I go to other states I still feel out of place. The thing with Utah is it has the biggest Mormon population, but it also has the biggest ex-Mormon population, so in a weird way I still feel like I belong here.

He travels the country and gives a voice to different groups of people so the viewers can learn and make up their own minds. This is why the channel is great and I hope it never changes.

But I find it pretty telling about the Mormons and the Armish that they provide a full social system. Whether it's the hospital bills or a social cushion. Well he did conveniently leave out why Joseph Smith and the Mormons had to keep moving west. I’m sure the story is that all the fraud (like issuing his own bank notes) and crimes (like conspiracy to murder) are just fake. But the truth is they were trying to stay ahead of indictments and criminal proceedings.

As a current member this kid gets it. Now I'm by far not the ideal member. I've even struggled to pay my tithing and I haven't been to church a lot because of financial struggles. ( I work most Sundays out of town)The bishop helped me pay rent multiple times and the church paid for more than half of my schooling to get a good job. I graduated school on last Friday and I'm just beginning to find a job but no matter how bad things get for me I'm always greeted with love and kindness. And that's truly a remarkable thing!

Even though I don't practice this or any religion, I really like the way Brock represented his church, and everything he said rings true. my story i quite similar to yours, while this does kinda make it feel like theyre saying theres ONLY mormons in utah but thats just definitely not the case, but i doubt that was what they were meaning to say, but apart from that i can tell you it is one of the reasons the state is so clean and safe, lots of efforts from the church and state to help the homeless. and while i may not be the most holy person i definitely feel like i have benefited as a person from it, it can kinda feel a little cultish at times but like 95% of the times everyone is super chill

I live in SLC and have to say it. This kid is arrogant. Mormons have perfected the art of passive aggressiveness and selective wording, so I get why people think he is a sweet articulate LDS, explaining his culture. Allow me to over explain. He talks about a "tiktok trend" at BYU which mocks lds students, just for their "peculiar" beliefs. What he is referring to, but won't be direct about, is a peaceful activist student group called the Black Menaces. They ask students on campus questions about various social and political issues, like race, gender, and religious ideology. He claims the questions "are all logical fallacy" (33 min) Not true. They Go look on their IG or TT to see for yourself. Most are subjective. But to be clear, the students CHOOSE to respond and are fully aware that they are being recorded. And NONE of them have said "your beliefs are invalid." As a reminder, people of color are the VAST MINORITY at BYU. And the state as a whole. But google who the Lamanites are in the Book of Mo. It looks more like a white LDS man feeling threatened over a few poc students. He wants freedom to practice his religion, yet doesn't like their free speech. Classic. And Mormonism is "high demand" bc it's about control and obedience. You know, like a cult. Next, the interviewer is oddly prompting him with confirmation questions. (It seems like xyz is this way, right?) Anyhow, he indicates ppl in Utah are so healthy and the environment is cared for. In part due to the religion's values. Utah "is better off than other places." Ha!!! In google, type in "Inversion Utah" Go to the images. Tah-daaah, reality. The SLC valley often has the WORST pollution in the entire country. Yet the lds guy doesn't mention it. The numerous factories here, and how nothing is being done to move them, or even regulate them effectively. US magnesiun and the copper mine account for over 30% of harmful emissions. US Magnesium avoided Millions in fines for their many violations. They filed bankruptcy then changed their name to the current one. Do our Republican, lds majority politicians set any limits or temporarily stop factories from the constant filth when the air quality reaches harmful levels? Nooo. There's no accountability. Their solution is to put it on us. "Carpool! Work from home." Ira Rennert (a slimeball billionaire) owns the parent company of US Mag. He donated a million to sen Romney's super PAC when he ran for president. What does a UT LDS Senator and a NY Jewish business tycoon have in common?? - $$$$ - who knows! What is not mentioned either is the HUGE scandal last year. Am LDS whistleblower high up exposed their fraudulent and illegal financial activity. you can look up their hundreds of investments, like Shell. Who also has a refinary here. The LDS church hid 33 BILLION DOLLARS in various accounts under other bizz names. The intent was to hide their true wealth from the public. Esp those paying their 10%. Like those on missions, who are often barely getting by bc paid for it themselves. How noble! Recruit for free, while thechurch has hundreds of billions saved for a "proverbial rainy day." The highest rankings members all knew too. But mormon followers simply ignore all that bc "turn it off." Meanwhile The church donates the bare minimum to charity, which to most sounds like a lot. A million here or there. But it's like .0001% of their worth. They exploit the poor all over the world. At 26.30, he blames the 02 Olympics in for "outsiders" moving in, and increasing crime. That was over 20 years ago. And I found nothing that supports this claim. There were visitors, so crime clearly spiked for that time. Their LDS gvnmt chose to bid to host them. And the church took full advantage to try to for new memberships. I thought this guy loves to share the love of Mormonism?! This kid contradicts himself constantly. He claims to "not judge non LDS people" while simultaneously claiming superiority in values. And outsiders are criminals! To think your values are better than everyone else is ignorant. 54 min, lies. LDS members accept ppl when they decide to leave? ha. Granted, some do. However, to claim it's different than other religions is false. I love how he goes back to justify it "if it compromises their belief, ok." Only the Mo's though. Not Scientologists or JW's. He is comparing these is bc they are similar. Many "friends" stop talking to the person who left Kids of lgbtq are especiall prone to be excommunicated by family. Kids are often told not to play with kids who aren't lds. And what is SO ironic is complaining about ppl moving here, when their religion has thousands of missionaries living all over the world at any given time. Invading their homes, and trying to convince gullable people into joining their cult for the rest of their lives. Just don't move to our mormon Mecca! Believe and pay 10% to us from afar Bc if you don't, you won't make temple recommend. aka you won't get into the top tier of heaven. Makes sense. When talking about "secular" SLC, The dt area in every state is less religious than the sticks. SLC isn't sin city. He's just condescending. Also, his narrative to blame ppl from outside UT for crime.. so all crimes involve who? minorities? Non members? Ok. Like the kids growing up here w religious trauma don't turn to drugs or crime? I've met an alarming number of people who grew up in very mo families who have mental health issues, drug addictions, and who were not helped by the church. They were shunned and judged. Any crap therapy is like "pray more." Not to mention church leaders trying to hide cases of sexual abuse from the public. Not calling authorities when Bishops raped their own kids. They are getting sued over it now. The more controlling the religion on sexuality, the less sex education, and the more abuse occurs. The boy scouts too. The church and boy scouts were very closely connected until recently. It's almost as if grown men bishops shouldn't be asking teens to explain IN DETAIL about a sexual act they performed/received. It's just disgusting, perverted, and should be illegal. Which makes sense, with their "icky history" (17 mins) in mind. He's referring to their prophet Joseph Smith, who married up to 30 women/girls, including multiple 14 year old GIRLS. He was 36 YEARS OLD. But this guy here, (at 29 mins) is claiming they "dated" and it was consensual. While he married other men's wives. Sure it was. How can he even support that narrative. So gross! And this "quiet" idea started when JS was caught cheating on his wife. This is in a page they don't talk about in the JS Papers, and is even omitted this page in the docs online. At 19 mins It was NOT originally "used antagonistically by non mormons." They called themselves Mormons. They even had a campaign circa 2008 called "I Am A Mormon" with billboards all over various cities, and promo videos. They literally say "My name is ---, and I'm a Mormon!" The Mormon to LDS switch is pure marketing. They are worried about their dwindiling numbers and want to be more appealing to Evangelicals. The current church president Nelson is actually VERY AGAINST saying Mormon. Look at speech from General Conference. (A big LDS meeting) It's on YT. Another example of this new branding is google maps. They recently got rid of their Moronai icon (The dude blowing a horn) and replaced it w crosses. A symbol that this kid even admits (22 min) they don't use. Ppl who grew up LDS will tell you how crazy that is. At 31.30 when they talk about dating. And NCMO, why not also mention SOAKING? Mormons love their loopholes. And BYU students have sex, it's just not talked about openly. They also have a culture of snitching at byu, and Imo this guy seems totally like the type of worm who would tattle lol God has a special bias to protect missionaries over everyone else in the world, ok. There's no way those white boys are going to the favelas of SP. You have to be invited for one. I've been. They are run by gangs. They also don't have money to pay tithing. To say ppl living in extreme poverty are thinking "the white shirts show their calling to god leave these white kids alone" is absurd. They can get caught in the crossfire if a turf war too. I am a Muslim living in Salt Lake City, and I have found members of the LDS church one of the most humble and dedicated people ever. I have nothing but respect for them, especially their family-centered lives. Doesn't really matter if a bunch of "enlightened/Freethinking" young guys and girls call it a dry or boring state as long as families can live comfortably here.

I am a citizen of New Zealand and currently live in Australia and over the years have had interactions with Mormon missionaries. They were always impeccably polite and respectful, they along with myself have their way of sharing their gospel and their faith. No one should look down or dismiss the views of others just because it’s not our own. And if truth be told, our world would be a different place if we humans were to dedicate ourselves to sharing with others all that is good and honourable and deserving of respect. Thanks Peter .

As an ex-Mormon and Utah native, this was very respectful and great content. One thing I wanted to mention about missions, one reason the church spends such a huge amount of effort with such a small conversion rate is that they aren’t just converting new members, but the missionary themselves.

So, if we are being technical, they definitely do not pay for their whole missions... and a lot of missionaries don't pay anything.

Many years ago our family lived in a small Idaho town that was comprised largely of LDS church members. When my parents (who were non-members) lost their 8 year old son, the community rallied behind them and offered a variety of help in the form of food and other assistance. I've been told there was no proselytizing involved, just help and support. I was only 2 at the time, but my parents spoke fondly and respectfully of that experience for the rest of their lives.

Mormons are salesmen, and obviously they will be good to people who they are detached from to keep a good impression. But, if you were raised in the church and leave they can be extremely mentally-abusive and narcissistic. You need to understand the context behind why people who know Mormon's surface-level often love them, but those who interact with them behind closed doors--or people who are in lower parts of the Mormon hierarchy are often abused by those higher in the hierarchy--then you would understand that Mormons (some not all) can have truly terrible and unkind sides to them--even if they can make good impressions from a distance to those who don't know their unkind sides.

There’s a LDS man at my husband’s work. My husband and his coworkers have great respect for this man. He’s always asked to lead the prayers at company events and gatherings. It warms up my heart that a bunch of road workers always ask God to bless the meals before gatherings. I'm 23 and I moved to Provo over a year ago. I had no idea what LDS was before moving here. I'm not a member but I absolutely love it here. The people are nice. You can talk to almost anybody and they will be kind, open, and receptive. Our apartment door is unlocked 24/7. I just leave my laptop lying around in the cafe i go to - nothing happens. I've only seen 1 homeless guy the entire time I've been here. He seemed like a nice guy too, not all cracked out like bay area tweekers. And as a young guy, I have to throw this in here - and I mean in the most respectful manner possible: Provo has the most beautiful women out of anywhere I've lived, by far (I've lived in a lot of places). And I don't mean just physically. They're beautiful inside and out. The vast majority of girls here are fit, feminine, polite, kind, etc, etc. etc. One of the first things I noticed when I moved here was just how many young people are out and about, all time, exercising or just hanging out. Everyone's just nice. People will wave hi to you. There's so many fun things to do in the city that don't involve hedonistic debauchery. Tons of soccer fields, basketball courts, hiking trails, pools, bookstores, colleges, etc. There's bowling, roller disco, arcades, cafes, ton's of parks, river walks, etc. You can make as many friends as you want. There's a free bus system too, that goes between Orem and Provo (actually nice busses). I'm not an LDS member but I respect LDS culture immensely. I sometimes go to BYU campus, and when I do, I make sure that I'm clean shaven, dressed properly, and I try not to use any profanity. It might sound stupid to some people, but I understand that it's the religious values of the LDS Church that create this environment that I love so much, so I try to preserve it as much as possible. If you move to Provo, respect the Latter Day Saints. There's a reason why you're moving here. There's a reason why you like this place.

Years after we left the church my Dad left our family and we were evicted. Fact is that the “believers” of LDS today are watered-down believers, conforming to what was expected of them by society, and because they didn’t want to lose their worldly possessions or freedom to the government when the government started arresting them for polygamy. Although I know many people have different opinions on the church of LDS, my family’s experience interacting with Mormons has been positive. My family lived next to a very liberal family and a very Mormon family. We are Catholic and we all got along. We all had kids at the time. When my brother was little he would play with all of our little neighbors. The Mormon family had six kids. My Dad always said they were organized and very charitable. When I was a baby, I had to go to the hospital (due to a seizure) around Thanksgiving. The Mormon family (with their six kids) prepared a Thanksgiving meal and gave it to my family knowing that they wouldn’t be able to make one themselves because they’d be caring for me. Anywho, I just thought I’d share that because I know we’re all different, but we can still be kind to one another. I hope to hear more stories about us getting along like that here in America 🇺🇸

I too, like many in the comments, am a member of the church. I served a mission in Arizona almost a decade ago now, and it was one of the best experiences I have had in my life. I shared the Gospel with a lot of individuals, some who decided to join the Church, and a greater number who didn't. Some of my favorite discussions were with members of different faiths, discussing our differences and sometimes our shared beliefs. Seeing the MTC brought back a lot of memories, although I didn't spend a lot of time on that main campus. When I was being trained to be a missionary was a few months after that age change that Brock mentioned. There were so many missionaries that they took over a couple apartment complexes further to the west, and housed/taught us over there.

WHAT This from a Christian website: "While we, as Christians, don’t believe our works have anything to do with our entry to heaven, we do understand our works have everything to do with our reward once we get there. Wow thank you so much, as a member that grew up in the church , then went away for over a decade, I was very impressed by the conversation. You could not ask for such a warm hearted person. I love that I have turned my heart back to God and the teachings of Jesus Christ, I didn’t realize until I was having my first child at 33 how valuable the lessons and attitude of the LDS church. Now living outside of Utah with a family and I’m the minority religion I definitely stand out as a high intensity religious guy but I do have a nack to sit with people that have those old habits of mine, and show them that they are loved and people care for them despite the faults of being human. As someone who is not an LDS but am currently working in Idaho, I just have to say this young man definitely spoke well of his beliefs and the church. I have never felt safer in any community then here in Idaho. The people are sincere, kind, hardworking. When we have time they answer all the questions us non LDS folks ask. The religion is not forced on to us. Its just a warm welcoming conversation. There is lots of misinformation regarding the LDS. These folks have a sincere relationship with God and are living in the present. Im so thankful I came to work here and will be leaving with a greater more compassionate understanding of them. And while I wont be converting, I am enlightened by them.

This is why the Bible frequently urges us to study and meditate on God's word. 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV "STUDY ... rightly dividing the word of TRUTH." Acts 17:11 "EXAMINE THE SCRIPTURES to see if what said is TRUE". 1John 4:1 says: "BELIEVE NOT EVERY SPIRIT, ... because MANY FALSE PROPHETS have gone out into the world." Mormonism claims the bible was corrupted to justify Joseph Smith's changing of the biblical, eternal God into an evolving, created god, who is not all powerful and is one of an endless number of gods . However, this is a PROVABLY FALSE claim. The Claim: In the BOM, the prophet Nephi has a vision the Bible was corrupted and "plain and precious parts" were removed after the 12 apostles and after the formation of the “great and abominable church” (1 Nephi 13:26-29). Most Mormons believe this is the Catholic Church formed in the 4th century. Nephi claims this church was founded by the Devil (1 Nephi 14:3). So let’s objectively examine the Bible & BOM. BIBLE: The Dead Sea Scrolls have been dated to as early as 350 BC. One is the Great Isaiah Scroll, which is the oldest known copy of the Book of Isaiah dated to 180 BC. Do ANY ancient scrolls show Smith's "uncorrupted" version of scripture? NO! Yet they would if the scripture was later corrupted after the 12 apostles died as Smith and Nephi said. Also, if they had been corrupted, Jesus would have corrected scripture instead of affirming it! Jesus sd:“ I told you EVERYTHING written about me in the Law of Moses, the Books of the Prophets, and in the Psalms had to happen.” (Luke 24:44-46) Scripture is the same today as it was 2,100+ years ago with only minor spelling and punctuation differences. Joseph Smith was wrong. These scrolls pre-dated Catholics, and are Jewish scrolls and the BOM says the Jews had the Scriptures in their "purity". 1Nephi 13:25 LDS Apologist Wayne Ham admitted the Isaiah scroll does not support the the BOM. Apologist Dr. Sidney B. Sperry, of BYU, said the Dead Sea Scrolls do not help the case for the BOM. BYU Professor Joseph F. McConkie: "Rather than Joseph Smith as Found in Ancient Manuscripts, it ought be Joseph Smith as Lost in Ancient Manuscripts.” (Religious Studies Center, 1984) IS THE GOD OF THE BOOK OF MORMON THE SAME ONE AS IN THE BIBLE? NO! In the LDS Church’s 147th Conf., Gen Authority Bernard P. Brockbank said: the Christ followed by Mormons is NOT THE CHRIST followed by traditional Christianity. (Ensign, May 1977 p. 26) "Before me NO god was formed, nor shall there be ANY after me.” (Isaiah 43:10) If Mormonism is true, then God could not make this claim, for he was just a man at one point; nor could he claim that no gods would come after him, for that is the goal of LDS members. Like Joseph Smith, this was the goal of Satan, to be like God and have worshipers. "I will exalt my throne above the stars of God ... I will be like the Most High”’ (Isaiah 14:12-14) The new testament has not been corrupted either. See the book of John. Smith changed it to make Jesus a created being. Research a 1900 year old papyri known as the Bodmer Papyri of the book of John. (written 150 AD, around the Apostle John's time) John 1:1 "In the BEGINNING was the WORD and the WORD was WITH God and the WORD WAS God." ΕΝ ΑΡΧΗ ΗΝ Ο ΛΟΓΟΣ ΚΑΙ Ο ΛΟΓΟΣ ΗΝ ΠΡΟΣ ΤΟΝ ΘΕΟΝ ΚΑΙ ΘΕΟΣ ΗΝ Ο ΛΟΓΟΣ (look up this ancient Greek yourself on google) John 1:1 Joseph Smith translation: "In the beginning was the GOSPEL preached through the Son. And the GOSPEL was the word, and the word was with the Son, and the Son was with God, and the Son was of God." Smith's Jesus is no longer God in the flesh but the biblical Jesus is: "God was manifest in the flesh" 1Tim. 3:16 KJV There are 4,000 Greek manuscripts of the New Testament. Some go back to 350 AD and NONE support Joseph Smith's claims that the bible of today has been corrupted. Papyrus fragments exist of the New Testament dated to 175 AD and show that the new testament has NOT been "corrupted". (New Testament Docs: Are They Reliable? Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1967 pp. 15-17) The manuscript and archeological evidence for the BIBLE is the GREATEST in antiquity. I pray you know the true Jesus and not Joseph Smith's exalted man from another planet who is not eternal, not all powerful, not perfect but evolving, and was polygamous. God is much greater than the humanoid of Mormonism and NOT just ONE OF AN ENDLESS NUMBER OF EVOLVING GODS. Jesus said ALL scripture will NOT fade away but "many wolves in sheep's clothing" will come trying to add to the word. Mathew 7:15 Joseph Smith changed Jesus, the Father and taught you can become a GOD. It hurts my heart to see Mormons fall for the lie that we can become God when there is only one eternal God found in the bible. "The only men who become Gods, even the sons of Gods are those that enter into polygamy." (Brigham Young) Journal of Discourses 11 p.269 Apostle Orson Pratt, in The Seer, page 172, “the great Messiah who was the founder of the Christian religion was a Polygamist…the Messiah chose to take upon himself his seed; and by marrying many wives, … The son followed the example of his Father" God gave us critical thinking & logical reasoning for a reason, which is why he does tell us to EXAMINE and TEST what we are being taught for TRUTH. The bible withstands the truth test. Joseph Smith's version fails the truth test. It's your eternity, study it for yourself. God bless.

I’ve lived in salt lake for 10 years now. I’m not Mormon, but I’ve come to love them. I feel bad for them when they’re exposed to normies who are unfamiliar with their culture and religion. Yes, they are almost always very, very agreeable people who have nice families and are very successful, but when you push their beliefs to logical ends, they start to get nasty.

@@HowlettYT That's true for almost any religious belief system or political ideology. In general, people don't like to have their way of living questioned. A lot of the time you get hostility because you're pushed back and put into a defensive position where you might not know all the answers and no one likes to feel dumb. Peter usually doesn't question peoples belief systems beyond surface level unless something doesn't make sense to him. And I think that's good because we're all watching his videos to learn and find common ground, not find differences or hatred. For example, he didn't question Judaism at all in his Hasidic Jews series and that has a long history with plenty of deep questions to be had.

My uncle was a Mormon. He served our country. A disabled Vietnam veteran. He raised my sister from 12 to 18. She has a MSW. Only took out a loan for her graduate studies. She worked since she was 16. He taught her how to save and manage money. And how to give back to others. He also looked after my mom, who was mentally and physically challenged. Years later, he married a woman with a teenager. He paid his step daughter's way through university. When he passed away, he left his wife with no debt, a home, and a car. With her income and the money he left her, she will be comfortable.

I very much enjoyed this segment. Brock was open and honest and we got to see things "through his eyes". I also enjoy Peter's style of just letting people "be" and share who they are, what they think, how they see the world, etc.

There are actually more and more nuanced reports, e.g. with Mormon Book Reviews, 52 churches in 52 weeks, or Hello Saints. While nasty evangelicals still exist, they are far from the majority.
