If I knew you were visiting Carmunock, I would have been more than happy to give you a tour. The Social Club used to be the village school and Mitchell's restaurant was formerly the Boghead Inn. The police station is now two private houses. Some locals may remember the two policemen Wattie and Purdie. The houses opposite Low Green used to be the Green Garage. Lovely wee village.

Hi Bill, there used to be a fantastic Chinese restaurant , I think it was called the Cool Jade back in the early 80s, maybe you can confirm
@Bill-d5oКүн бұрын
@IanGillespie-ze6ek yes, it was the Cool Jade. There was also a pub called Bruce's Cave further down the road at the corner. I believe that burned down in the late 50's early 60's.

Love your video of carmunnock. There used to be 2 bus services in the village but Strathclyde buses axed the 22 service to the east end then the 31 was axed to east kilbride as first buses Glasgow. Sad but true. I miss the bus service to east kilbride bus station from croftfoot roundabout.

At first I misheard you and thought you were cycling to Kilmarnock in 23 minutes, an Olympian effort! (The floral clock there is good…). As it was, a lovely day out! I know of a village in Nottinghamshire which has a similar trail, but nothing like as pretty…

The minute I saw that wall art the start of the video, I knew it was the Gorbals. When we were kids we would go up to Carmunnock and mingle with all the posh kids and get mad with it together. The two places you were in, The Gorbals and Carmunnock couldn't be further apart in every way possible. It's a beautiful wee village, I wonder if Jackie Bird (BBC Weather Lady) still stays up? there?
@terrifictraveltalesКүн бұрын
Haha that sounds like a good bit of fun! It is a beautiful village. I'm not sure if she still stays there but if I'm ever there again I'll need to keep an eye out for her.

@terrifictraveltales I've just come across your channel and you might have already visited these 2 places but they're also lovely wee villages, Law and Thorntonhall, both jus outside Glasgow of course but very beautiful and great history. Thanks for your little video, it was great to see the place after 30 years.

Baillieston, at the east end of Glasgow used to be a village too. Originally part of Lanark District it was brought into Glasgow during boundary changes in 1975. Now it's more like a small town.

I live In East Kilbride so know Carmunnock well. Passed through it many times. The 31 used to be handy as it went from my bit to Glasgow. Was gutted when they axed the East Kilbride route even tho there was a petition and 2 MSP's involved. Walked from Cathkin Braes to Carmunnock. That was a long walk and food from Booth's before walking back to EK

Yes I agree it's very far from scenic until you get to the parks: when you get to Castlemilk you're almost home and dry. I videod the graveyard from the air this year. It's got some interest, like the grave of a Glasgow woman who was married to the the first (I think!) black missionary ordained in Africa . Not the most interesting place for a herirtage trail but nice to just walk around on a sunny day for an hour and get a coffee. A young friend and I got lost cycling from East Kilbride to Glasgow via Rutherglen so I sympathise! Nice watch, thank you. Have a safe, adventurous 2025. Just had a thought! Why don't you give that a try: train out out to EK and cycle back via any way you like. You too could get lost, lol! Need to be quick though since the line is closing from end January for months!
@terrifictraveltalesКүн бұрын
That's interesting, never knew about that! I'm glad there is a heritage trail as it's great way to learn more about places. That's a good idea for the cycle! Need to see if I can persuade Iain to cycle in winter😀 Hope you have a great 2025, too!
