People dont realise moist of the Whitehouse is only 70 years old - few parts are the original ... considering the fire of 1812 and the main renovation in the late 40s early 50s authorised by Harry Truman who spent less time in the Whitehouse during his presidency. Indeed Truman was an exceptional President.

The neo-classical design you see in the Entrance Hall, Cross Hall, State Dining Room, and East Room date from Theodore Roosevelt's 1902 renovation. During the Truman renovation, all the historic interiors on the state floor (moldings, paneling, fireplace surrounds, etc.) were carefully dismantled, stored, and then reassembled in the rebuilt White House. The only thing that couldn't be saved were the plaster ceilings.

After the tour the tour the agent asked if we'd be interested in seeing the Secret Service Command Center which at that time was located on the top floor of the Executive Office Building next door t to the White House. Of course we said yes! West wing tour started at 8:00 p.m. and by the time we left the Secret Service center it was after midnight. Are you talking about Zachary Taylor? I was just in the last group and they were great with me. I had a private meeting with WH staff beforehand and they knew I was ok!
@TheRadioAteMyTV4 жыл бұрын
@@DrGariS Is that Taylor above the door? I can't match that painting, and the pics of Taylor either have him way older or younger, and I have awful facial recognition skills. That is so cool they allowed you such liberty, and that you respected it too of course. I am doing a science on lesson National Parks and my students picked the WH. I didn't even know it was a National Park until they did. Your video is part of my research, so I thank you for the care you put into making it. Those early presidents had great taste in good looking plates.

I believe that’s William Henry Harrison. Zachary Taylor was not well-groomed. His hair was shaggy and unkempt.

Little-known fact: those carvings in the wall around the entrance to the Grand State stairway that you see at 18:40 and again around 19 minutes, are the seals of the original 13 states. There are five on each side and three overhead. President Truman had those carved during the 1950-1952 renovation. He mentions it at the very end of his televised tour in May 1952.

@@DrGariS I always wondered what those were and then watching the KZbin video of the Truman tour from 1952 he gave it away at the very end there. Looking them up online I’ve identified several of them. You can see Rhode Island and Massachusetts there and then the center seal in the three overhead carvings is Connecticut because of its unique oval shape. I’ve been to The White House tour 4 different times myself and I’m actually doing a full presentation on it in April.

FYI, the security officers (CIA department) in white shirts inside the white house are currently as of 2023 paid sixty thousand dollars a year at the entry level and with experience (working years there) can make up to 80 thousand or more a year. The top security (CIA inspector) makes over 160 thousand a year. Security is always rotated to different posts as a security measure unless the president or the first lady specifically ask to have a certain security person at a specific post at a specific shift because at the end of the day, the president is the boss of anyone that works in the White House until their last day in office.

It’s a rewarding job. And on top of that I think they need to have a professional degree. Jeez, you would think they would pay them a good salary, but they don’t do it for the money I would imagine. It’s not THAT bad but they should pay more.
@ExclusiveLM Жыл бұрын
@@DrGariS Getting paid 80 to 100 grand a year within a few years of experience for just standing around and being more of a tour guide is a lot of money. Yes, we do honor their service. But, come on. They are not doing rocket science work. The CIA department that does have higher levels where they get paid up to 160 grand a year is more equivalent to higher pay and they do get a higher pay. But, the guards standing around the white house get paid well for what they do. The ones who should get paid more so they can survive and not end up homeless are the lower middle class and the poor. But, thanks to bought off politicians, the national minimum wage and state minimum salaries never keep up with soaring rents, food and other cost of living expenses.

It’s wild to think that every president has to sleep in the same house. I’m sure there is people working in the White House imagine having to live there and getting no privacy. Every other 4-8 years it’s either democrat blue or republican red, that’s a lot of decorating. You can tell Melania Trump was miserable in the White House she wanted to go back to mar a lago Trump spent a fortune renovating the White House it must have sucked the day they asked him to pack his belongings and Biden move in. Also if a president lives there why is there tours aloud?
@josephbennett34822 ай бұрын
Trump spent his own money on the place because the place was basically falling apart and VERY outdated in many areas, it had many problems because the government didn't take care of it or keep up with modernization.
