For the first time since the war between Hamas and Israel broke out on October 7, the United States has made it clear that it is willing to withdraw its support for the Jewish state by halting the shipment of weapons if things get further out of control in the Gaza Strip. And the question is, what now? What is Israel aiming for with the assault on Rafah? Why does it refuse to accept a ceasefire? In this video, we will tell you all the details.

@Flunko97 I think the US specifically said evacuating them to someplace with the needed supplies and infrastructure would take a long time (things like sufficient shelter, food, water, etc). Which to my knowledge (I could be wrong) is not what Israel did. And while the US is by no means perfect at military execution. It gets to seriously say what it wants because Israel is its client state. So, not much for Israel to do other than whine or ignore it.

You are contradicting yourself. a 1:2 militant:civilian ratio is actually unheard of given the complexity of the terrain. I am not aware of a better track record of any other military in urban asymmetrical warfare, let alone with such an underground component. So to claim that this kind of ratio is unacceptable is tantamount to surrendering by admitting that your adversary's tactics make them immune to harm, and I would suggest is sheer madness. By this logic, one cannot fight against irregulars who embed themselves among civilians at all, which is suicidal and sends the message that using your own people as human shields pays off. So much for incentives.

The viable alternative would have been for the US to aid the PA in the Civil War in Gaza (like Bush wanted to (Israel helping would have arguably further bolstered Hamas' support)) while conditioning aid to reforms, elections, and legal standards while moving towards 2 states. This was likely going to be inevitable after Hamas gained control of Gaza. At the level of October 7th is questionable (Israel dropped the ball on maintaining border equipment and was quite slow to respond). And the following reprisal was likely to bolster Hamas support (they went from around 24% support in Gaza and single digits in the West Bank/ East Jerusalem to what is presented in the video). But a sustainable peace would likely require years of peace keeping by third party nations. And the international community basically forcing both sides to eat shit sandwiches and make nice.

Wait, you forgot to mention that in Rafah city there are tunnels leading to Egypt that Hamas used to smuggle most of its weapons, and that Israel believes at least some of the hostages are there. In addition, if Israel ends up controlling both the Philadelphi corridor (the border with Egypt) and the Be'eri corridor (separates the Gaza city in the north from the rest of the strip), Israel effectively takes over the 2 most strategically important assets in the strip. It could be a great bargaining card for the hostages, or a way to finish the war with a victory even if Hamas survives (via permanent control over the corridors and by extension the Gaza city).

There would be no need for the pier that has just been built if aid weren't being blocked from entering. Netanyahus plan would mean permanent occupation of Gaza which was deemed militarily unfeasible years ago and unacceptable to Gantz. That Hamas isn't capable of carrying out threats seems relevant and that threat is contradicted by ceasefire offers. the comparison with Nazis is ludicrous and an astonishing choice of message that smacks of desperation. Defining victory as completely eliminating an opponent means the opponent only has to survive to claim victory, historically this kind of conflict has no military solution.

I find it hilarious that Netanyahu has declared that Hamas is ISIS (or Daesh in his words) and will be destroyed, when Israel couldn't be bothered to help fight ISIS when it was running roughshod through the region. So the US and its local partners get to fight ISIS by themselves, but they're all expected to assist Israel to the hilt against Hamas. Quick question: how is Israel a valuable ally again? They didn't help in Iraq (both times), they didn't help in Afghanistan, they didn't help against ISIS, they didn't help in the Syrian Civil War, they didn't help in Lebanon (they made things worse there actually), and they haven't helped in Ukraine, and they're the only country that's ever attacked a US naval vessel with impunity (the USS Liberty says hello). Looks like a mighty one-way "alliance" to me that seems to running purely on "We feel bad for the Jews because of the Holocaust". Yeah was almost 80 years ago, bud. Tell me what truly rational reason today that the US has for backing Israel, because I really don't see it. Even countering Iran is an insipid argument, since most US policy against Iran seems to mostly be focused on protecting Israel (yet another one-sided thread of the partnership).

This whole war practically is the same as when the Japanese bombed the US in pearl harbour. Only difference is that the 2 belligerents in WW2 were of comparable similar naval strength at the start of the war. While in this case Israel was of a far superior military position. In Japan's case their populations had fully supported the war efforts of their governments and the US had to constantly firebombed entire cities and nuked 2 of them before any surrender was on the table. In Palestine it's pretty much following the same trend, cities levelled and occupied, they're down to their last hold out at the end of the strip. Even then Hammas is still receiving large scale support from the population and refusing to surrender unconditionally. If Palestine wasn't Muslim and Israel wasn't Jewish, no one would care enough about this war for it to last this long.

17:00 these are not factions they are independent political parties that are obviously in coalition with the Likud party the worst among them being Otzuma Yehudit which roughly translates to "Jewish Power" why would anyone take Netanyahu at his word with this being a prevailing fact? Hamas should no longer rule in Gaza clearly but the conditions every time from the average Palestinian has not changed. The State of Israel isn't going anywhere obviously but the conditions of this Non-Sovreignty that has existed since the 67' War cannot continue to be the status quo it is untenable to say the least. The fact that no treaty in the past referring to the conflicts that happened in the past 57 years dont specifically mention the sovereignty of a Palestinian State has always been at the crutch of this issue and as far as I can tell the Israelis will never abide to do so & never were willing to in the first place.

Nobody mentions how basically in his private diary the Founding father of Israel Ben-Gurion says that (Im being reductive here) "Eventually the Arabs will have to go away sooner or later". I'm paraphrasing but that was the gist of it & what this means is that the entire time it wasn't just about "Security for the Jewish people" it also was permissing anyway & anything that Israel would do to create an Apartheid state over the Palestinians. If I was in their shoes I be bitter as hell too. The British came in and said it's fine for the Non-Yishuv Jews to come in and basically both buy and takeover the land that already had people living on it (including the 25-40,000 Jews who STAYED and survived in Palestine up to the 1890s).The source of the creation of Israel among the waves of Jews on permanent Aliyah ended up creating a version of Israel that ironically Theodore Herzl would very likely would have disliked If not despised.
@malcire
@malcire 24 күн бұрын
What obligation was there to agree to the deal? Generally turning down a deal doesn't mean the other side simply gets everything. In fact Israel agreed to return the land from the Palestinian half in exchange for UN membership (as well as UN support in returning it securely). But has never sought to do so and furthermore annexed East Jerusalem (which they agreed they wouldn't do). Now that isn’t to say the Palestinian side (or at least any group with the power to govern in any way) has been any better. Both the Palestinian militias in the 1940's and the Zionist ones were pretty open about taking it all (you can read Ben Gvir's diaries on it) and both were ethno nationalists. Ben was willing to play the long game. Something that Mufti and his ilk were never able to do (and they killed any who didn't go along with them).

What happened on oct 7 was only the last straw. You forgot the hundred of thousands of missiles that were shot daily towards israeli cities since israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005 (they are still shooting, btw), and the terror tunnels that some probably still exist. I doubt October 7 would happen again, but the situation was unacceptable way before it. Also, there are still hundred of thousand israeli civilians that evacuated and can't return to their homes, both near gaza and northern israel (where hizballa is also shooting daily).

A few notes about the last part of the video: * 14:33 Actually that was the ratio at the start of the war, now it's less than 1:1. In any case 2:1 civilians:terrorists is the "standard" ratio for modern armies in such environments, e.g. the US in Mosul. * 14:49 This is not entirely accurate. A bit over 270 soldiers have died, but this includes over 40 from friendly fire and accidents, and 15+ in the north (Hezbollah). It's doubtful that even 200 have died by Hamas's hands (even if we include PIJ, PFLP, al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades and every other terror group in Gaza), and this is significant because it means Hamas and PIJ have killed more Palestinians since October 8 than they did Israelis (e.g. al-Ahli hospital bombing). This is not surprising, but some people might not be aware. * 15:08 This mostly refers to the start of the war; now the situation is much less dire. This is actually a major overlooked reason why Israel isn't being more aggressive - if it calls up all its reservists again, it could suffer an economic disaster, so it's calling up the minimum necessary to pursue the war goals.
@malcire
@malcire 24 күн бұрын
Where does that ratio actually come from? What independent group researched or certified it? Because I keep seeing it mentioned but the only officials I can see presenting it as fact are Israel itself (some UN group just said they don't calculate it).
@Ynhockey
@Ynhockey 24 күн бұрын
@@malcire No independent research group has certified any casualty numbers from either side, so if this is your standard, it's impossible to tell. The numbers everyone cites for Gazan casualties come straight from Hamas, and are statistically impossible (look up the analysis by statistician Abraham Wyner). However, it's what even the UN formerly accepted. If you extrapolate these Hamas numbers with the estimated number of killed terrorists by Israel, you get the ratio. You can do this almost on a day-to-day basis (IDF Spokesperson publishes the numbers per-operation, as well as occasional estimated totals).

Those requests in the ceasefire offer once again show how utterly cynical Hamas is. At this point there's no other way than eliminating the organization completely. This mustn't be just another cycle. The wheel needs to be broken. Since Hamas has literally been cornered, my guess is, Israel has set up shelters for civilians as a way of separating the wheat from the chaff. Sure, some of the Hamas fighters might give up the fight and mix with the civilians. That's a matter for another day, future investigations..etc. The point is tracking those who try and flee, because the only way they can go to are the last remaining tunnels. That's just my opinion. Speaking of opinions, I think that after the conflict Netanyahu and his government need to go. The new government should join in the international efforts to rebuild Gaza. Not only should they join, they should lead the effort and be its main patron, heavily investing in that area. Eventually...and I understand that cannot happen over night - it may take a decade, but Israel's ultimate goal should not just be withdrawing and leaving Gaza to the Gazans, but rebuilding and setting conditions for that area to thrive, instead of merely sequestering and controlling the population. Allow normal trade, allow them to have an airport and seaports. Nothing stops bullets better than jobs and decent life.

@malcire
@malcire 24 күн бұрын
The problem is that Hamas going into exile would require another state to take them. Jordan likely won't, neither would Egypts current regime. Iran is also unlikely (they don't want more Muslims of that sect and no one would trust that they wouldn't turn back up at Israel's Syrian border or in Lebanon). They could go to Lebanon except that just effectively transfers more allies for Hezbolla their. Something that neither Israel or most of the Western powers want. Additionally, without political and structural changes to the realities in Gaza, WB, and East Jerusalem; it isn't going to prevent another one of the smaller terror groups from just absorbing the military aid and prospective members.
