I love listening to Vitalik talk. All Solana founder talks about is "Solana go brrr" while Vitalik is like "The past and the future have many pathways and we as humans choose our becoming."

Just remember without Vitalik, there wouldn’t have been any innovation in blockchain other than Bitcoin where the only use case “price go up when more people buy”. There would be no Cardano , no Solana and a hundred other smart contract platforms. We in the crypto space are forever indebted to this guy who is responsible for the thriving industry that is changing finance around the world without an intermediary party or govt.

The major difference between crypto and AI is that crypto gives more power to the masses whereas AI gives more power to the elite. Maybe D/ACC could change AI to become more empowering for the people.

After listening to hours of e/acc and more general accelerationists trying to explain their world view, it seems quite clear that accelerationism is just one component; That what they most fundamentally value above all else is Materialism. As best I understand what they've said so far, accelerationism is a means to an end and that the ends justify the means. The "ends" however are poorly described. They employ vague terms like "growth" (perhaps capitalised, in their context). Concepts like "invisible graveyards" are particularly disingenuous and are clearly formed by a disdain for safety and regulations. There have been innumerable real world demonstrations of the need for guard rails of various kinds - laws and regulations because industry, when trusted with regulating itself, abuses that trust to the greatest extent possible in every way, without exception, in pursuit (coincidentally) of materialism.

You mean Vitalik just got around to listening to Charle's Whiteboard talk from 2017. Literally every single thing he has developed over the last six months has been a straight copy of Cardano including abstraction. Now instead Vitalik tries to play catch up to Cardano and his years behind and Charles is happy to live on an island. Meanwhile the millions of Ethereum users don't get what is already availablefor a low costb now and the thousands of Cardano users don't get any monetization off of what has been built. It's too bad Charles didn't stay in the Vitalik should have lef,t crypto would be so far advanced today

As long as we don't raise awareness enough so that everyone understands that our goal is to meet everyone's fundamental needs, progress mostly accelerates exploitation of the environment and humans in an arms race to be the king of the hill.

Firstly evolution does not maximize fitness. It optimizes for lowest energy usage. Maybe everyone concerned about AI doesn't deny global warming? Maybe they think that someone should take a few moments to think about the concept of 75% unemployment? Perhaps it might be that change being at least incremental enough to allow the society to keep up is a wise choice? The chance that AI creates something like the great depression is not zero is what I will say.

Lol....Medical technologies have had exponential growth the last 2 decades mostly (under the helm of private sector). Life expectancy is quasi flat. In developped countries like the US, it's actually going down for more and more people. Why ? Simply cause it's not those tech that allows for life expectancy gain. Quality of life, economic growth but mostly social welfare (and peneciline) are what allowed life expectancy gains in the West. And since it's being broken through the deconstruction of state for the well being of the wealthy...Well...It all crumbles down. Vitalik is a great tech guy. That doesn't make him smart for any other matters, he shouldn't play at being a philosopher before seriously studying the fields he wants to talk about.

In this episode: "Technology (on net) has helped the world" Technology has, absolutely, NOT helped the world/planet in aggregate. It HAS helped humans in aggregate, but these are two VERY different things.

@@Rawsavon I don’t see this framework as being necessarily a 0 sum game thought, technology in its essence is about using physics to improve the humans knowledge about the universe. It is the only cursor we can move in order to improve this knowledge and cater better outcomes for the planets
