This was a really great example of cognitive framing effects, and it goes to show how powerful this effect is on all people. Greta video, and looking forward to more!

I'm really excited to see you guys grow into this show. This is the first episode and I can feel the script at times--instead of the conversational style I believe was intended. But this is to be expected as you find your voice and get used to the flow. I love the books I've consumed by your group and these videos are a great way to continue sharing the knowledge.

Great video from the team from Vital Smarts. Three statements stood out to me that I am going to use at home and at work: - The words you use can influence others - The words you use to frame a decision can profoundly affect the way people respond - Explain the moral frame behind your request Give me a shovel - I'll take all the BS you guys can give out!

This is Ho! Ho! Ho! and so very useful. I have always known that words are the most powerful things we have to bring people closer or push them away. This is a great perspective for all and not just talking about Christmas, but every aspect of our life. Keep looking at our impact. Looking forward to more #BSGuys

Yes, this very informative. I remember when I was a kid, we did not get candy on a regular basis - cognitive mindset on lack or feast or famine - candy is a seldom treat. Get the big one.

Excellent experiment! The way you say things makes all the difference. It explains a lot on why we see some of the "selfish", "its all about me attitudes". I'm not a rocket scientist,, but I can learn to choose my words and how I present things in every day life to make a significant difference....

"What gifts are you most excited to give for Christmas?" (Santa to 6yo) Wow! Would that change in one word make a difference in behaviour to a six-year-old? I'm going to try it out tomorrow.:-) Thanks Joseph and David!

Thanks guys for this fascinating video. What I'm really interested in, is the 30% who chose the smaller candy in the control condition. BTW, I think that the Santa in the experimental condition should be the norm.

What was your sample size?
@phillipduplessix10 жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed your video and am a huge fan of almost all Vital Smarts content. However, I found the way you presented the data to be misleading. In the first sample you said that 70% of kids took the big bear, then in the second sample you said that 50% more kids gave the big bear away, meaning (though in a confusing way) that 55% of kids still took the big bear. Additionally, the exchanges that are shown imply that 100% chose the big bear the first time, and 100% chose the small bear the second time. I feel manipulated by this presentation of the data, and I feel it subverts your message a little bit. The results are impressive on their own (30% to 45%) - why try to artificially increase them? Thanks for your time and and effort put into this quality video.

The video was about framing after all ... :)
@Perkygreenie3310 жыл бұрын
I love the content and implication of this in daily lives. The video showed how compassion can be influenced by framing the words we use. I also love your books and it really helps me in my daily interactions. @BSGuys Just an observation and intention to provide feedback which may be of use to you. The Acronym of the Behavioral Science (BS) and how it is used in the script or sentence maybe misconstrued to mean "Bull Shit". It may not be you intention and I do not mean any malice. I meant this to be an observation particularly at 6:23 where David Maxfield ends the segment "...and that's all the BS for today..." and the when Joseph Grenny was asking viewers to subscribe at 6:34 "...click here to subscribe where we always promise to share some BS you can use..." Kindest regards

Great video Behavioural Science guys. Giving is better than receiving and valued more by people than attachment to materialistic possessions. Happiness is in people not stuff. If only adults could learn and adjust so quickly. Not sure about you but BS does not work for me and our culture here in Australia.

Seems to me that spending a few minutes a day talking morals with the kids will have a short term AND a long term impact..?! ;-)

Thanks for the BS, guys. I'm going to work at remaining mindful about framing to see what I observe -- especially in big kids.
