A good episode. Ray did take over this parenting of Alley, but it was effective. I would of like to see more of Ray being successful at something domestic. Debra became upset & jealous because for Ray actually using what he had learned & but he was smug & that's what pissed her off. In most episodes Debra plays the poor put upon woman with Ray & his family. Her character plays that she is smarter than Ray & his family. A very eye opening episode. In the end of the clip Debra acts like Ray stomping off, roles were reversed. Deb not used to that.

That is because far too many women need the excuse that men don't do anything to really parent. The moment that is shattered, people start realizing that more women than should be allowed get away with using it to justify things like flying off the handle. Debra was nothing compared to Marie, though.

This is a slice of reality that was a hallmark of shows like this one. More than a few women say they want their husband/boyfriend to be more active and to listen more.. but in reality if we do.. that robs them of all their excuses to do things that are not reasonable as well. An active father, especially one who really listens, picks up on so many things.. especially the little manipulations that some women always get away with. Debra never got as bad as her own mother or Marie because of moments like this.

I think Debra is frustrated with Ray because its the first time he has showed any initiative after she makes him go to a class to learn something helpful. He mocks her the whole time but then realizes the stuff works when he experiments with it. Debra is frustrated because Ray is always the opposite and hasn't caught up quite yet to this quick but temporary change. She simply never expected he'd actually get it. She stays mad though because Ray gloats about his short term success of application of something Debra hoped to understand but feels probably defeated Thinking Ray would never get it or support her in applying it herself. Gloating was the worst think Ray could have done. Shows he is still immature and now dangerous with a bit of helpful information. And Ray most likely will never use the technique again, because, as we all know, Ray is simply too lazy to follow through.

@@Deborahtunesexactly. Why turn it into a competition? Who cares which parent is right as long as the situation gets better for all and the child learns? The parents are a unit and Debra always needs an ego booster or to “win” at something and drag Ray down. It’s a shame. And It’s a very bad quality for a duo. When Ray started cleaning up more around the house in the humm vac episode she didn't like it only because Marie suggested it. Like who cares if it gets Ray to clean up around the house more hell Marie can suggest whatever the hell she wants. She even admitted that when Ray cleans she goes behind his back and does it herself cause how he does it isn't good enough.
