01:15 The 3 forms of vitamin A are retinol, retinoic acid and retinal. Retinoic acid is the most bioactive form. Cod liver, liver and carrots are rich in vitamin A.
02:22 Vitamin A helps to induce immune tolerance. Autoimmune diseases are characterized by a loss of tolerance. The immune system overreacts to tissues that it shouldn’t.
03:44 You may benefit from increasing intake of vitamin A if you have allergies, skin issues or systemic autoimmune disease. Chronic use of vitamin A, 5,000 to 10,000 IU, may be beneficial.
04:05 If you believe that you have contracted an illness or pathogen, you can do short term supraphysiologic levels of retinoic acid or retinol. For non-pregnant adults, this is between 100,000 and 200,000 IU for several days.

Vitamin A helps to prime these immune cells as part of the mucosal memory. Your mucosa is part of your front-line defense, and they are highly influenced by vitamin A and vitamin D.

Vitamin A is actually a Cofactor of Vitamin D. Vitamin D gets activated from calcidiol into calcitriol which is the active form. Calcitriol then goes into the cell and binds to the vitamin D receptor. Vitamin A as the active form goes into the cell and binds to the Vitamin A receptor. Both receptors then melt into one. This means there is an important relationship. Dr. Michael Holic (scientist who isolated vitamin D) published a study on the interaction of vitamin a with vitamin d.

Since the pandemic I’ve been obsessed with vitamin D. A couple of months ago I tested for vitamin A and was shocked to find I was mildly deficient. So I take one drop of liquid vitamin A per day.

@@TiMalice2009 the serum retinol test is not a good indicator of VA status. It is actually very common to have low retinol in blood and be very high in liver stores, meaning you actually have hypervitaminosis A, and you are not deficient. this is in the research. it is extremely difficult almost impossible to be VA deficient in the US or other industrialized countries. it is in everything. dairy, eggs, and common vegetables to start. please do some research on this. taking VA as a supplement is often a huge mistake.

@@JYAN2852 yeah this concept is the most underrated thing in all the diet/supplementation talks. Every time you take a supplement, say Vit D, you should be eating it with a food that is naturally high in Vit D because it will naturally have all the other substances in it that helps manage that Vit D dose

Vitamin K2 and vitamin A in conjunction with vitamin D3 needs to be talked about more. Vitamin D3 alone isn't the whole puzzle, but just a part of it.

Magnesium is also associated with Vit D, we can go on and on... in the end, its best to just eat whole foods, mostly animals IMO

Please also remember magnesium. Without magnesium, the vitamin D level will not rise above 30, maximum 40 ng / ml. Magnesium is best used transdermally (as an oil through the skin). When taken orally, probably only 50-60% of the magnesium is processed by the body. Those who think that all nutrients can be absorbed in the necessary quantity through food are unfortunately wrong. Due to the constant deterioration of the soil, water and air in recent decades, plants, herbs, berries, vegetables, etc. no longer have nearly the ingredients they did 50 or 60 years ago. We (unfortunately) have to resort to food supplements. And here it is particularly important to make sure that you take high-quality products...

i stopped severe toothaches in about 12 hrs with high vitamin A from 4 oz beef liver and fat from milk, as it re-mineralizes. D3, K2 should go with it, but didnt take during those times (still went to the dentist, dont neglect getting checked out). Its one of those things i had to try, and now have liver on a regular basis for its high A & copper content, + other micronutrients. Acquired taste for sure.

I have not had cavities in over 10 years I'm 27. I have however had tooth pain gotten it checked out. I found that when I am dehydrated my teeth start hurting especially my lower left teeth for some reason.

Vitamin is A is not a vitamin. Vitamin A is important in the sense that it is responsible for so called auto-immune diseases such as eczema and psoriasis. Grant Grenereux cured his eczema and kidney damage with a zero vitamin A diet. All this information is on his blog: ggenereux.blog/ Vitamin A is also likely the sole cause of scurvy (vitamin C cures scurvy, but it is not the cause of scurvy). @@agentfifteen Vitamin A or actually beta-carotene in context asbestos or tobacco smoke? It is the latter. Beta-carotene is not yet vitamin A. In fact, the relationship is inverse not direct especially for retinol. As I eat animal fats, I have a good retinol intake.

Vitamin A is the easiest vitamin to get from food, vitamin D is one of the hardest hence why it gets and needs more attention 👍

Hi Mike - there are several well known health you tubers (keto/low carb) who are pushing against vitamin A saying it is toxic to the liver and thyroid. They say not to eat liver, or to restrict it to very rare occasions with the minimal amount. I happen to like the taste of liver especially lambs liver so probably eat it once a month. My thyroid and liver blood work are all excellent so I think I'll continue to eat it.

Some ppl will not be able to tolerate liver. But it's most likely due to other causes not Vita A itself. Vita A is an essential nutrient after all. Bones, eyes, thyroid are a just a few functions requiring it after all. The people who cannot tolerate are the exceptions though, just as how some cannot tolerate fats. Fat soluble vitamins are very lacking in the general population's diet (low fat, low cholesterol, and plant base diets)

Yes, Beta-Carotene won't convert to Vitamin A in Diabetics or those with pronounced Hypothyroidism. This well established. Even the aged may have problems with this conversion, as they don't convert sunshine to Vitamin D.

Liver gets so much hate, but it's wildly undeserved. You just gotta treat it right - buy fresh, slice thin, cook fast/hot, pair with REAL butter - to make it both delicious and nutritious. Even my toddler likes it, and it's the first thing she cleans off her plate. Chicken livers are mild, tender, and dirt cheap. My favorite though, is rabbit liver from the meat rabbits I raise. If you can get ahold of it, and you know the animal was raised well/harvested in good health, it's well worth trying.

There is nothing delicious about liver. I was forced to eat it on a regular basis when I was a child. The minute I got old enough to refuse it and get away with it, I did. I haven't eaten it from any animal since.

I grew up eating liver at least once a week. We had it as dumplings in soup, as pate on bread, with onions, with sauce or breaded. I loved it in any form. We didn't eat it daily or in a huge amount. I still love it and eat it but now just pan seared in butter.

I seem to remember quite a long time ago a talk done by Chris Masterjohn about vitamin A toxicity being nullified with vitamin D and vice versa. Essentially what would have been a toxic dose of either vitamin showed no ill effects when given together at the same levels.

I live in California and have access to raw milk, sold commercially (tested), and I've had GREAT improvements in my health after a few weeks of drinking it daily. It makes sense since it has a solid nutrient profile. I also don't have a gastro reaction like I do with pasteurized milk.

This is very interesting because all of my life I only had an allergy to the penicillin family and in recent years because of stress and not dealing with the stress or working on stress reduction, which of course I got really good at since 2020, the stressor being overtraining with powerlifting and working 50+ hours a week, I developed seasonal allergies and an allergy to milk, but not cheese and not cream

Vitamin A is needed by stem cells to differentiate into white blood cells (immune cells) and red blood cells.

Interesting... Assuming white cells are produced by default, this could explain how vitamin A deficiency might lead to an overactive immune system, as well as anemia. (I haven't researched this, yet -- just speculating!)

I read that book and it is truly excellent. In that book Kate Rheaume Bleue explains that vitamins A+D+K2 are a team that works in synergy. Everyone should read it

This is really interesting to hear! I've been hearing a lot of negative criticism of vitamin A being toxic but I think it must come from the same crowd that say vitamin D supplements are toxic. I've never noticed an issue with it.

The toxicity threshold of vitamin A is also related to the presence or absence of vitamin D It seems that they work in synergy and each favors the other by avoiding toxicity or making it more difficult. If you also add vitamin K2 they are a perfect team.

@@Palaecro Vitamin D intake may be insufficient by taking only CLO (Cod Liver Oil) As far as I know current cod liver oil contains less vitamin D than in the past. A couple of years ago, looking at the various brands of CLO, I noticed different quantities and proportions in the vitamin D and A content. I wrote several emails to the various CLO manufacturers available in Europe and to my surprise they all replied. Everyone admitted that vitamins A and D in CLO are added. The reason is filtration (and also deodorization) All fish oils and even CLO are currently subjected to various filtration processes to eliminate pollutants (unfortunately the sea has become a landfill) After filtration the vitamin content of the CLO is almost zero and they are therefore added again (synthetically) Depending on the brand there will be different quantities and proportions of vitamins. This doesn't mean taking CLO is a bad idea, I think CLO is good for our health but I wanted to tell you this. Some reading I did on the web says that the CLO of 50 or 70 years ago was richer in vitamins than today, this could be true.. Rather than buying CLO I take fish oil because it is richer in omega3 and I take vitamin A and D purchased separately. There is also a Nordic CLO and fish oil manufacturer who fortifies all their products with vitamins A, D, E - I sometimes use their fortified fish oil. I don't use megadoses of vitamins A, D or K2 but I am convinced that their synergistic association is beneficial (and I don't forget magnesium)

I have chronic sinuses and I haven't had a problem in years however since I started taking vitamin a my sinuses have, anyone know why ?

You are right Vitamins A and D are essential to reinforce our immune system🦠 ; some of my favourite whole foods: liver, salmon, eggs, broccoli (too many to list here); use to supplement with CLO however, was afraid of getting too much due to consuming whole foods; however, if one doesn’t get enough thought, it’s a very good idea to supplement; thank you.

Right? I've heard that high vitamin A can effect the kidneys or liver adversely.. wish he had mentioned something about that

I was always told its very hard to overdose on these things from food sources. It's seems to be supplements 99% of the time that causes these issues.

I have a BCOM1 gene mutation and was recommended Vitamin A as a therapeutic treatment. BCOM1 converts beta carotene into retinol. FYI I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune condition that destroys the thyroid, so very relevant info in this video, thanks!

My story. One of my sons and I are not vexed. We got the virus. I had been taking vitamin D. C and zinc for many months prior. I've actually always taken vitamins. Our symptoms were relatively mild. My son who Is 25 symptoms were a little worse than mine. For example He had fatigue that I never experienced. In fact I carried on my days as I normally did. We both got it again from my other fully vex and boosted son who got it from a fully vexed and boosted friend. My unvexed son and I had very mild symptoms. They were a nasal drip and scratchy throat. Pretty similar to our inital symptoms when we got it the first time. The symptoms never progressed and after approximately 48 hours we both felt completely fine. My vexed son wasn't as lucky. While his symptoms were relatively mild they were worse than ours and lasted about a week.

Could you do a video on remedies for seasonal allergies? Such a widespread problem that seems to be very poorly understood / have few effective solutions.

I've been able to get over my seasonal allergy problems but I'm not sure if it was supplementing with Vitamin D, A or C that did it. FWIW my Vitamin D levels were low before supplementing.

Quercetin/ bromelain works for me with seasonal allergies. Start about April until the first freeze.

Does anyone know why I get really bad muscle pain and dry eyes when I take Vitamin D3 supplement? My Vitamin D level is only 13. Doctor recommended to take 2,000 IU, but I can not tolerate even 1,000 IU. I have tried one that comes with K2. My doctor has no idea.....I'll get cancer from lack of Vitamin D someday....qq

Awesome video! Off topic question - I started using topical vitamin A {Tretinoin .05%} and it dries out my skin but I have to apply it sparingly. At the same time my eyes have gotten severely dry. Can this be related?

I got prescribed an acne cream from the doctors that contained synthetic retinol years ago. My skin got so dry my whole face was peeling off and was covered in flakes of skin (it was like this for at least a week) it only started to happen after using it for a few weeks. Retinol can be very harsh and irritating on the skin that's why they usually advice starting on a weaker form of retinol then build it up to get your skin used to it. I was reading up about it not long ago as I want to start using retinol products again. Hope this helps.

I’ve been searching for the optimal amounts of vitamin A to consume daily and all I can find is the RDA. We know rda are not optimal levels. Do you know of any studies that have researched the optimal levels?

I think the best thing is to take vitamin A along with D and K2. They work in synergy and by increasing the dose of vitamin D the doses of the others must also be increased. The toxicity threshold of vitamin A is related to the presence or absence of D and vice versa. To give an example, above a certain threshold zinc can also be toxic but if you add a little copper the toxicity disappears. Probably above a certain dose the cofactors become essential to avoid problems, the RDAs are just numbers that do not take into account the interactions between the various nutrients.

Carrots don’t have any vitamin A actually. Carrots are a good source of beta carotene, which the body can then convert to vitamin A. This is why it’s very common to see vegans with vitamin A deficiencies. The active form of A (retinol) is just not found in plants.

The carotene compounds are bio similar but is NOT vitamin A

i know there's something in vitamin A for immunity after i finished my accutane. Before im having terrible cough almost 3times each year. During my low dose course, i didn't have any coughing episode or got Covid... 4 months after finishing accutane i got Covid and productive coughs came back again

From what I read, Accutane (high doses of Retinol) was first developed as a drug for chemotherapy and later turned out to be helpful with acne.

The side effects of Vitamin A toxicity from Accutane is not good. I took that drug and regretted it. I suffered from dry eyes, mouth, and skin for over 5 years. All I had to do was simply change my diet and cut out all processed junk foods. It has taken me many years to finally get back to normal. The carnivore diet also helped me out a lot and has kept my severe cystic acne from coming back.

@@BiggieCheese45 I didn't have any major side effects and only stopped taking it after noticing my T levels dropping. Should have done keto/paleo from the beginning but too late now. My skin is much better than before though

@@bjoshua1980 I took Isotretinoin and went up as high as 50mg 3x a day for 2 months. It started at 10mg, 25mg, 40mg, and then 50mg. I took it for almost a year.
