0:00 Intro
00:30 Your body contains 20 to 25 mg of iodine.
01:11 Iodine is required for a variety of biologic functions
02:00 When you ingest iodine, there is an increase in TSH (thyroid signaling hormone), a pituitary hormone that triggers the increase in production of the TPO enzyme, thyroid peroxidase.
02:52 In T3 and T4, the T sands for tyrosine, an amino acid.
03:22 TPO makes tyrosine and free radicals. You have glutathione peroxidase and other antioxidants in your thyroid gland.
04:30 Neutralizing free radicals is dependent upon selenium.
05:00 If you are going to take high doses of iodine, 12.5 mg or more, increase your selenium intake to 2 to 4 mcg and increase N-acetyl cysteine.
06:30 Iodine is important for cognition and growth, important for children.
07:00 Iodine can be used for water purification.
08:00 If you are vegan, vegetarian, you eat a lot of brassica foods (soy, wheat, millet, cassava) or smoke cigarettes, you are exposed to higher levels of goitrogens.
09:05 Halogens are in your bloodstream from your environment. They antagonize iodine. Swimming in a chlorinated pool displaces iodine in your body. Fluoride is found everywhere in your life, including flame retardants in your clothing and furniture. It accumulates in your fat tissue. Filter your home and drinking water.
12:40 In children, there is substantial evidence that iodine supports IQ, mental acuity.

When iodine was removed from bread and replaced with bromides breast cancer began to skyrocket. Along with thyroid disease. Bromides are -anti-iodine. Iodine is essential for breast health. Read “The Iodine Crisis”. Easy to understand book and info plus resources on support and supplementing iodine. Detoxing bromides.

I started taking Lugol's iodine after some abnormal TSH tests. Game changer. I'm not into the theory that 1 thing makes a world of difference, I have found it's usually a confluence of factors or stimuli that yield positive changes in well being, e.g. the world doesn't operaten in isolates. But in this case iodine did, and my brain seemed to work better. Less intrustive thoughts, more relaxed, less fog, better concentration. My .02 cents, Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) is WAY too low. The soil has been ruined and "demineralized", and that has wreaked havoc on the whole eco system.

Brazil nuts are not commercially grown because they are the biggest tallest tree in the rain forest. It towers above all the other trees and takes many many years to grow. They do not get fertilized or sprayed and are still today collected by hand by the native peoples where they grow. Rain Forest has very little nutrients in the soil as it gets washed away by the rain however the massive root system of this tree go way deep collecting natural minerals from deep down including the one it likes most. Selenium. I come from an area with absolutely no selenium in the soil so all our livestock has to be Supplemented with it and all who know about it take it as it is vital. I am a huge fan of supplemental iodine. However you do need to be mindful that it not only acts as an aromatase inhibitor and it upregulates the expression of certain CYP450 genes that metabolize certain estrogens. This can cause you to be lower in estrogen than you should be. Also, iodine helps the lymphatic system in amazing ways!

I've had symptoms of estrogen dominance for years, so maybe the iodine being an aromatase inhibitor, etc is beneficial for me. I know I've read that it's anti-cancer, and I know for myself that it makes ovarian cysts go away and stay away. Other benefits - regular period cycle, lighter and shorter. Dr. Jorge Flechas spoke about these benefits for his female patients. He also stated how iodine helped at least one diabetic female patient who had blood sugar of about 1,000 (not a typo) and was currently taking insulin.

I have been weaning off Armour thyroid for a year, almost done, but I supplement with liquid iodine, b12, d3 and 2 Brazil nuts a day. Seems to help with mood as well. I am also staying away from cruciferous veggies while going thru this. So far, no big deal, doing well and looking forward to being on zero meds in my 60's. Thank you

what type of iodine

My doctors started this required lab work thing- after being stabilized on my armour dose for YEARS. I live so far out of town, it's impossible for me to afford or find time to constantly get levels checked when I'm stable. They literally refused to treat me, so I went cold turkey involuntarily. Now I'm considering staying off. I continue to supplement with iodine and support complex and eat "paleo" clean. I dunno yet, but so far I seem to be okay.

@@cupidok2768 I take lugol's. Terry Naturals makes a triple iodine complex in a capsule that I took for about a year when first diagnosed. Expensive but good stuff. I prefer full spectrum style supplements rather than isolated nutrients.

Because we don't eat enough fish or things from the sea, we take iodine and magnesium. I consider them to be building blocks of health to every cell in the body. All are important but Vit D & Mk 7 type K2 are helpful as well as Omega 3, also in fish. Hmm, sunshine, swimming in the sea, eating fish and sea vegetables might be the best for us? Why do I hate the heat and live up north then? I love mountains, trees and snow, hate insects and reptiles. I'm screwed.
