It is very important to understand that vitamin d affects people in different ways. It all depends on the person and thier body chemistry. So you shouldn't take it lightly if someone complains about side effects following intake of vitamin d. And there have also been people who have taken vit d for many years without any of these side effects. If it's causing you problems, then it's not for you, stop taking it. Your body is unable to handle it. Simple. No matter how good it is for other people. It all depends on your body chemistry. But please take these side effects very seriously, it's no joke.

Thank you very much for this video. My dad was taking very high amounts of vitamin D, and started to suffer from almost all of these signs and symptoms. He was basically dying (loss of appetite, fatigue, bone pain, poor kidney function, etc). So as you read comments trying to discredit this video, please consider that 1- you can take too much of a good thing, 2- using a good thing incorrectly (such as excessive D3 without any K2 supplements) can be harmful, and 3- every body will not respond the same way to the same things (hence food and medical allergies). So experiment away with as much vitamin D as the internet encourages you to, but please monitor your bloodwork carefully, get to know the signs and symptoms that indicate you are taking too much, and find the sweet spot that works for your body. ps: I've read that you cannot get vitamin D toxicity from sunshine or from foods naturally containing vitamin D, only from supplements.

Thank you for this video. It was helpful. I didn't know what was wrong with me until I realized I just started taking a vitamin D3 supplement a couple of weeks ago. I had never felt like that before. I had insomnia and night sweats for 3 nights, frequent urination, dehydration, loss of appetite, gas, and agitation. I wish I had known this before I started supplementing. All I have been hearing for the last few years is how helpful D3 is for the immune system and link to reduced breast cancer risk. I will not be taking it anymore. The literature contains evidence that a range of vitamin D supplements from 800 to 300,000 IU/day have been used for periods ranging from months to years. Doses below 10,000 IU/day are not usually associated with toxicity, whereas doses equal to or above 50,000 IU/day for several weeks or months are frequently associated with toxic side effects including documented hypercalcemia. Most reports suggest that the toxicity threshold is between 10,000 and 40,000 IU of vitamin D per day. Every 2nd day is fine. That's actually a good way to do it if it's cheaper. Doctors will often ask people with a deficiency to take a larger amount once per week, so nothing to worry about. I take 4000IU 3 times per week for similar reasons. It's plenty enough. Lasts longer too.
@geonerd3 жыл бұрын
"Optimum" is very probably 60~80 ng. 30 ng is a bare minimum, IMO. There is nothing magic or scary about the 4000 iu 'limit.' Plenty of people take 6,8, 10K or more with ZERO issues. Indeed they report improved health and freedom from inflammatory diseases.

This information belongs in the scare tactics category. Given the current situation, this video only serves to steer folks away from a known beneficial supplement. Vitamin D3 can be purchased at 5,000 IU with 90 mcg (micro-grams) of vitamin K2 in one capsule. That's a good starting dose. From what I have learned over several years of studying vitamin D3, you need to take it with K2 at the ratio above and several times this amount does not seem to be toxic or problematic. Most people are deficient. There is little evidence that you will harm yourself with these levels but there is much evidence that your immune system will be better able to protect you from whatever is going around. We don't get much Vitamin D from food.not in the UK and we need to supplement Oct - March. Black and brown skinned people are particularly at risk from Vit D deficiency which is why they are disproportionately dying from Covid in the Northern Hemisphere where sunlight is weak.
@belvedere924 жыл бұрын
Saying high doses of VITAMIN D leads to toxicity is saying nothing. How do we recognize that toxicity? Both high and low vitamin D exhibit as bone pain, lethargy etc, etc. What are the boundaries? You mentioned 4,000 iu D3, but I see Dr. Fauci says he takes 6,000 iu/day. Is it possible there is no such thing as vitamin D toxicity?
@jm4dhs4 жыл бұрын
Why don't you google it - the list is long. Most obvious might be pain passing water. Then there's kidney stones, hardening of the arteries, heart arrhythmia - all very common. No, it's not possible there's no such thing as Vit D toxicity. Several other vitamins have toxicity levels too. There's a simple solution - take a reasonable amount, below 4000IU. There's zero benefit from taking more, only extra expense and known harms

Useless info when out of context. Giving numbers is difficult but if toxicity needs 40,000 IU a day in supplements and 8 litters of fortified milk a day then that would be such an outlier as to be of no concern to anyone. If it takes 1000 IU and 500ml of milk then there is a concern. As there seems to be almost universal vit D deficiency worldwide then I would be concentrating on that.

Why are your VitD levels high, as that's not possible unless you're taking additional VitD through supplements? But if your Calcium is high at the same time you'd need to have your Parathyroid hormone levels checked as that forces calcium concentrations to be high at the same time as high VitD. This isn't a matter of diet or supplements. You need your doctor to refer you to an endocrinologist to check it out further as it's not a trivial matter.

She's been taking D3 50,000 IU every 4 days for about 12 months: She says it makes her feel better. N.B. Most tests show a standard range of Vit D up to 250 nmol/L. Journal articles suggest up to ~350 nmol/L D3 is not harmful. It's not clear how much D3 you can reasonably take without any danger of hypercalcaemia: Most incidences of hypercalcaemia involve dosing at much higher rates than 50,000 IU/day. Most recommendations on avoiding hypercalcaemia (maximum daily intake of D3 and max levels in the blood) seem to be based on opinion as they do not provide any supporting references: Virtually nobody ever measures their serum calcium levels to check if a problem exists. :-)

Facts Only Not Mentioned in the Video: (1)The hypercalcemia is excess Calcium in the blood but that Calcium is REMOVED FROM THE BONES... WEAKENING THEM. The kidneys, arteries, heart valves etc. (soft tissues) get the glut of the excess Calcium. So the bones get weak and break more easily and the kidneys can get full of Calcium stones and Arteries, heart valves, etc, can all have horrible responses to excess Calcium in them (2) I consider the non thinking, non concerned medical doctors at fault for not doing their own research and instead prescribing large amounts of "lanolin" which is where the D3 comes from and endangering and harming people across the world. Some people I know will never take a supplement again from a health food or other store. (3) Vitamin D3 should never have been put on the market.We were fine with D2 a less deadly form of the hormone. (4) If you are going to avoid milk which is fortified with Vitamin D3, you may as well avoid cheeses and creams of all kinds as there is probably lots of fortification of the milks that go into making the creams, the lovely cheeses, etc. Even the animal feeds are fortified with Vitamin D3. (5) If you do a search for "rat poisons and cholecalciferol"(Vitamin D3), you find that many dogs are dying from eating the Vitamin D3 supplements and that D3 is said to be a very effective rat killer, and in several such products.

I went to doctors and was dismissed. My condition got worse after I took vitamin d 50000iu as directed by the doctor. I kept getting odd systems after that, my entire body was so tight. My abdomen swell up and went down. I went to ER when I felt a pull like a pull, it feels like my vein. Doctor asked me to do a ct scan but radiology was shut so I went back to the doctor that prescribed me the vitamin d, my abdomen wasn’t swelling however it’s harder than usual. At this point I told a friend, he asked me to drink 3L of warm water. I felt super dehydrated and thirsty all the time. Before I took 50000 IU I actually asked if there are possibilities of overdose, he told me no although the instructions actually state 25000 IU once every 6 weeks. He passed my case to general surgeon and I got scolding when my blood test seems quite normal. In my country I’m not sure if there is a toxicity test. But my urine markers changed before & after I took it. I thought ok I should be fine. Things got worse. I started getting more cramp especially on legs. Pain on bones & certain areas. I noticed a round lump on my wrist vein and then under rib cage now I see it on one of my leg. I’m really worried that it has caused venous insufficiency. But I went to a cardiologist and endocrinologist my case was dismissed. They suspect it’s my anxiety that’s causing this unexplained pain when I told them I’m on medication. I started developing some varicose veins on my feet. At this point I’m not sure which doctor I should see. I’ve been using sound healing everyday to deal with unexplained pain. When I take supplements the pain I think it’s my vein / blood vessels get worse. I bought a supplement for lymph and it didn’t helped. Ginger drink helped a bit. Vitamin C is ok. I’m not sure if I want to get supplement for vein, natto or k2? I pray all of us will be able to heal. I told myself to keep a positive mind but sometimes the pain can be unbearable. Stay strong those who are impacted. Trust that we can heal. I also believe in tcm. I was drinking safflower with hot water. The hardened part on the inner elbow is abit softer. But I get acidic because I have gastric issues. Try drinking 3L slight warm water for those who feels dehydrated. Our kidneys will readjust. I was peeing alot and it got much better. ❤ & light to all.

It would probably depend on age, frame size, how much you exercise and how much sun you get per day.

IMO, greater than 100ng is entering the 'caution' zone. Although even that is generally safe. 200ng is likely a bad place to be, where you will be at some moderate risk.

Vitamin D toxicity is so rare...why have you chosen this theme......Hypercalcemia is the main marker , easy to measure....(only occurs when you have blood level by far higher than 150ng/ml)...clinical symptoms are not precise enough...sometimes based on myth (correlation is not causation!)

The Institutes of Medicine specifies 10,000 IU/day as the “No Observed Adverse Effect (NOAE) Level” - an intake that is not advisable, but which is not considered objectively harmful either. The Endocrine Society provides recommendations for vitamin D requirements and dietary intake, and list “sufficiency” as 30 to 100 ng/mL. UCLA Endocrine Center Vitamin D 25,hydroxyl recommendation of 30-80 ng/mL. Quest Diagnostics and Lab Corp list 30 to 100 ng/mL. as “optimal” levels. Vitamin D Testing | Quest Diagnostics (FAQ section of their Clinical Education Center web page) Endocrine Society’s practice guidelines on vitamin D state that vitamin D intoxication is usually not observed until serum 25(OH)D levels are more than 150 ng/mL.

@@PawanKumar-on1mo I can only share my personal story and approach, I'm not a medical doctor, so please filter through medical advice, if you have access to it. So: My toxic-Vit D levels were 250 nmol - and yes, I felt awful: headache and brain fog, muscle aches, overall just fatigued and unwell. When I realised this, I had cut out all Vit D supplements, Omega 3/fishoil (as it supports Vit D production apparently) and calcium (as too much Vit D interferes with Calcium absorption and we are at risk of depositing calcium in places it doesn't belong, like joints and kidneys). Next to cutting out all supplements, I also cut out: Most of the Vit D and calcium containing foods out of my diet for 3 months. No fish or seafood (as it's high in Vit D), no diary, butter etc - it was hard, but worth it. I felt continuously better and re-tested my levels 3.5 months after the initial 'shock' result and I'm naturally down to 50nmol. Mind you, I live in a climate with little sunshine, so it probably helped with dropping my values. I'm fine now!! It was the cheapest and most natural way that I know of. I hope it will help you, too.
@cathrineii696 Жыл бұрын
@@PawanKumar-on1mo ...just to add: The most effective way for me to adjust my diet (apart from cutting out the obvious supplements) was to google: What foods are high in Vit D? And what foods are high in calcium? And then, cut out those foods as much as possible to lower the levels asap. 3 months of doing this really did the trick for me. You won't feel better "immediately" but give this a few weeks and most importantly "Trust the process". It worked really well for me, and I hope you'll feel the relief too 🙏

Yes and no. It all depends on where you live. I'm in Canada, which is the poster child for MS. MS, as you should know, increases with latitude... and vanishes with indigenous (fish oil) diet. My neighbour hates doctors for that reason: quote: "I lost the ten best years of my life". (She was diagnosed at age 20) How did she cure the "incurable" disease? 2,500 IU of vitamin D per day. Her doctors were out to lunch. It is amazing (to me) the number of people who will look you in the eye and mumble that their MS is "incurable". Well, if it is incurable, what do you have to lose? It isn't as though your doctor has a working treatment for you. It is also going to be affected by how much sun you allow on your skin, and when. If you go out in a fig leaf, your body will create between 20,000 and 30,000 units half way to burn. I take about 4,000 units as supplements, and anything more as fish oil. Yes, I have always had to get up in the middle of the night to pee... and have always taken supplements, but again, I don't go out to tan, and in winter, obviously, I do not expose myself to any sun we might have. The third point involves covid. The initial study, from the University of Cordoba, found that if you were given 3 doses of calcifidiol (what Vitamin D3 becomes in your liver) upon admission to hospital, day 3, and day 7 with covid of 25,000 units, you did not end up in the ICU (actually, one in 54 people did) and nobody died. Of those (in the study) who did not get the supplement, 50% ended up in ICU and 2 died. The odds of this being a false positive were less than 4 in 10,000. Which is incredibly low. Is it any wonder why so many oldies in rest homes died? Well, the diet is terrible, and they never strip in the sunlight. Please note the obvious: different people have different needs. Not everyone is Canada has MS. I have had covid once, and started taking about 20,000 units a day the moment I realized I had been infected, on Friday morning. All I wanted to do was sleep... but by 3 am Sunday I realized I was no longer sleepy. I continued taking it at near that level for about 3 weeks: until the covid pneumonia stopped coming back if I missed a supplement. (I was taking about 4000 units every couple of hours in the day time). My sense of smell came back after about 8 days. (I was denied anti-virals because I'm 70 and have no co-morbidities. My doctor subsequently said "Well, you came through that easily", and I replied, "Yes, but you didn't know that in advance") Since Vitamin D moderates over 3,500 genes in the human genome, you had better get enough.

Interesting .... my D level in 2012 was 29 ng/mL (too low). I then started supplementing 1,000 IU then 5,000 IU per day and got to 41 ng/mL in 2017. This past year, without any testing since 2017, I decided to increase my daily 5,000 IU Vitamin D3 supplement to 10,000 IU from about January to May due to winter weather then went back to 5,000 IU. I have been miserable for the past year and half. Pain in my hips, groin, inner thighs, hip flexors, bunions on the outside of my feet, pulled muscle feelings, weakness, depression, overall lethargy despite exercising daily. Just had my annual exam labs done and even before seeing the doctor she emailed me to tell me to switch to every other day if I am supplementing Vitamin D as it is too high: 70 ng/mL. I cant take Vitamin K2 due to high platelets but the good news is my blood test showed calcium level smack dab in the middle of normal. I will reluctantly go to every other day D3 supplements at 5,000 IU per day and hopefully will feel better. These symptoms sound almost like how I feel. I thought a D level of 70 would not cause problems. Of course I might have been much higher coming off the 10,000 winter cycle I was on. Great video.

Vitamin D "toxicity" is actually a deficiency of things like Magnesium and Vitamin K2 (not to be confused with K1). Anyone supplementing with D needs to also be taking a broad-spectrum multiple vitamin to pick up any co-factors that the D uses in doing its job. Double check that it has the K2 (which keeps Calcium off the arterial walls and tells it to go to the bones), as it has only recently started to be added to multiple vitamins. Magnesium is involved in many metabolic pathways and most people are deficient in it, too. For every two Calcium atoms in your bones, the bones also need one Magnesium atom to go with them.
