Proves that we do not store vitd or get much from food. Now I wonder what other vitamins are not absorbing well from our food. I know this behaviour it's because people are learning and empowering themselves to look after thier own health naturally and Drs, nutritionists etc don't like it. It's an ego complex. Went to the doctor and my vitamin D levels were low. On the advice of my doctor I took 10,000 IU capsule form per day. on the third day I started experiencing chest and back pain. And ended up in the ER. I stopped taking it, and felt better after about 5 or 6 days. Everyone said that it’s impossible to React like that from vitamin D, but I found it to be quite a coincidence that I would start feeling like that. About nine months later I tried it again and again on the third day I started having chest and back pain and my blood pressure was super high. I guess everyone’s different because my body doesn’t like it. It’s just too much for me. It took about 6 days for chest and back pain to subside. I was seriously concerned I was going to have a heart attack because of the chest pain. Also because Vitimain D is a hormone I believe it had a severe negative effect on my emotions during this time as well. It was not fun. My doctor was recommending 50,000 IUs. I sure am glad I didn’t take that!

I asked my doctor to check my D levels when I went for a checkup and he said that it was too expensive. Considering I'm 70 and on Medicare, I was wondering why he should care what it cost. He did send my blood work to the lab to test for other things and said that they found that I had polycydemia when the results came in. He sent me to an oncologist, who determined that I didn't have polycydemia after the bill ran up to over $4K for that misdiagnosis. So I'm doing my own 'doctoring' from now on with help from the doctors on You Tube. I started taking 20K iu of D3...with 100 Mcg of K2, 7...along with 400 mg of magnesium, B complex 50 and 50 mg of zinc glyconate...and my muscle pains have gone away, I'm sleeping better and have more energy.

I've been taking 10,000 iu sublingually for 10 years, to maintain between 80-100 ng/ml. I get my blood tested every year to track my levels. Rule of thumb, most people should take at least 5,000 iu a day to have at least 60 ng/ml of vitamin D in their blood. Studies show that you could take in excess of 10,000 iu for many many months and still not reach that theoretical toxicity limit. As a side note, people who are sick, including cancer, or an autoimmune disorder should likely take 20,000 iu /daily.

I agree with your viewpoint entirely. D supports a number of vital mechanisms in our bodies that support good health. Dr. Linda Beskin,and Gruff Davies have published some information on D. which suggests daily intake of healthy people should be in the region of 7,000 IU. Also of note was that there is a body mechanism that prevents really high levels of D in the body when taken at once, and once the limit is exceeded it converts the D into something else. (Not sure what it converts to any more. (my memory is not what it was.) That reduction continuously converts the D levels after that first high dose for around 28 days.
@therealtimray
@therealtimray 2 жыл бұрын
@@lenwenzel7440 very interesting. I'll have to look into that further. It makes sense though. "In the wild" a light skinned adult could potentially synthesize around 5,000 iu for every half hour of full sun exposure (in a swimsuit in the summer). With that in mind, you could get 10,000 iu every hour. How many times have you spent all day in the sun during the summer? Especially as children. You don't see children in the hospital with vitamin D overload. Maybe stuck at home a few days with a bad sunburn, but that's about it. The body has to have some mechanism to store and process excess vitamin D. The real reason, imo, why vitamin D is fat soluble is so that we'll have vitamin D stores for the winter months to protect us from sickness, among other things. There's less ability to naturally create vitamin D in the winter months due to the angle of the sun. It's the human version of how hibernating animals store energy in fat for the winter.

@patrice94583. Sunlight helps convert the cholesterol based precursor to vitamin D into a useable form. First of all, great content, congrats! I think people should be told what "Vitamin D toxicity" really means. It's not some kind of deadly poisoning, it's excessive amounts of Calcium in the blood (and the effects of hypercalcemia), due to the increased D levels. This can be dealt with via dietary choices (avoiding rich sources of calcium), but mainly with vitamin K2 supplementation. It should also be noted that K2 does not interfere with blood coagulation or blood clotting, as K1 does. Especially MK-4, but also MK-7, at least up to 200μg/day. So, the "magic trio" would be Vitamin D3, Magnesium, and K2.

However!... read below K2 MK-4 has a very short half-life; it is bioavailable for just one hour, which makes it a very poor choice as a supplement. Additionally, the amount of MK-7 is very low. I’ve been exposed to COVID-19 and while others who were with me for the whole weekend when I was exposed, got COVID-19 even though I was the one who sat next to the person who first got symptoms the Tuesday after that weekend and tested positive for COVID-19. Others were sick by Thursday and Friday. I never got COVID-19 but decided to take an antibody test and it was negative. I’ve been taking vitamin D3 for almost 8 years for hyperparathyroidism but didn’t take it regularly until COVID-19 hit the scene so I have to get my level checked regularly.

This is so helpful! I purposefully took more than the recommended dose of vitamin D drops to ramp up my level up from 30 last year. I took half a dropper full a few days of the week and got up to level 80 in two months. At which point my doctor said to stop for a month in case it gets too high. It’s great to know that your recommendation is 80-100, which I can’t imagine achieving without supplementation.

Almost completely safe. That being said, I ended up having panic attacks (tingling in hands was the main indicator it wasn't a heart attack) and heart palpitations at night, that the Dr immediately diagnosed as anxiety. Stopped taking the 5,000 iu of vitamin D and symptoms went away. Two months later, took 2,000 iu, and immediately had a panic attack (manageable because I knew what it was). Long story short, Drs have a hard time correlating this effect, so be aware that if this starts happening, it may be the vitamin D. Stay safe, stay healthy!

Similar experience, I was overdosing on vitamin D, chest pressure heart palpitations etc. Went to local doctor, EKG showed no heart attack but did show an arrhythmia doctor was clueless as usual. After doing some online research I discovered vitamin d toxicity symptoms matched what I was going through. I was taking the D3 supplement and a men's daily vitamin which also included vitamin d. Once I quit taking the supplement the chest pains & pressure stopped after a few days. I still have an appointment with a cardiologist in February but I no longer feel like I'm dying.

This description hold true for being informed by all of my reading of the literature to date. IMHO, in addition, testing for levels 40 ng/ml or above should be done by ICPMS methodologies, as other methods become significantly less accurate above 40. Also, these levels increase gut uptake of calcium, and increased serum levels that need K2 MK7 to transport the excess into bone, rather than accumulating in soft tissue excessively. Testing is important to guide toward maintaining the 60 to 80 'sweet range' in blood for most people. Huge benefits for many genetic expressions in epigenetics are suggested in the literature IMHO. Read the literature, and discuss it with a doctor that understands the extensive research currently known.

Makes a big difference by weight so testing is extremely important. His wife has not been seeing any symptoms of toxicity so that matches what you’re saying. Vitamin D toxicity is extremely rare. I recommend people to get tested and supplement but so many people have been frightened by the mainstream media by the toxicity story they are hesitant. Great point about different body weight. Autoimmune disease, gallbladder function, gut microbiome, etc also makes an impact on Vit D. Again as the study states toxicity is rare and I've seen patients with levels over 130-150ng/mL with no ill effects. It's just prudent to check your levels before and after supplementation if you're going to take high doses. Best, Dr Jin.

I have a reaction to vitamin D. My problem is fatigue, weakness, worsening mood, feeling faint and lightheadedness, catching cold/flu, itching, rashes and nasal congestion. It takes a few days to get back to normal. It takes some time after taking vitamin D to show the negative effects. The effects are increased if the dose is higher. I also have a similar reaction if I stay in the sun for too long which makes sense because it leads to the production of vitamin D. I will try vitamin D2 as it is in a different chemical form than vitamin D3 and may not have this allergic effect.

I'm 66, female, 5' tall and weigh 102 lbs - the label doesn't take any of that into account so a 20-year-old male weighing 250 lbs will buy the same bottle of vitamins and read the same dosage instructions - I always start with less than the recommended amount.

Very interesting video. It may be that low vitamin d levels may be a result of dysfunction within the cell and not necessarily a deficiency. There could be oxidative stress unrecognised for example. It’s a similar argument for high cholesterol levels - reducing with Statins does not improve outcomes. Remember we don’t even measure the active form of vitamin d.

You need to take vitamin K2 along with D3 so that Calcium is directed into the bones and directed into other areas of the body where it is needed. D3 alone will mobilize Calcium stores and K2 forces the Calcium into the proper places. Just do a web search for K2 needed with D3. So called 'doctors' do not know much about vitamins. Do not take D3 without taking K2 as Mk 7.

Besides taking vitamin D3 (or D2, a less potent Vitamin D source with a lower potential to induce hypercalcemia) with vitamin K1 & K2 (to help metabolize vitamin D while funneling calcium into bone), the only other thing is do is avoid supplementing calcium with vitamin D, since most foods (and mineralized water) have more than enough calcium to be adequate if you're able to absorb it well. Plus, vitamin D3 increases the body's own calcium intake and recycling system which makes additional supplemental calcium intake possibly dangerous when your vitamin D levels are sufficient.

If the fortified vitamin D that’s in the processed foods can not be absorbed into the body,then how can we absorb the vitamin D that we are ingesting that’s accumulating by ingesting it. Mushroom absorb the vitamin D from the sun and eels that has got the higher vitamin D also relying to get vitamin D from the sun, meaning that we humans need vitamin D from the sun? Plants are a good example,in the absence of sunlight for a long period of time it begins to deteriorate slowly and end up with fungus and viruses.

Although lipid soluble, toxicity of Vit D is quite rare. Point prevalence studies have been done on life guards in FL and CA measuring levels at end of summer. These studies have shown serum levels as high as 270 ng/ml with no objective side effects of toxicity. Pigmentation also plays a role on Vitamin D manufacture by sunlight. Most labs have an upper limit of normal of 100 ng/ml. Also, more recent studies have shown oral supplementation to have variable absorption depending upon genetic disposition so amounts to take daily vary considerably with some individuals needing as much as 7000IU a day to raise ones Vit D level. Checking baseline is crucial esp prior to and during summer months esp if you spend significant time outside.

It is absolutely crazy that almost all of the doctors out there are promoting this and not understanding how absolutely dangerous it is to have huge doses of this hormone in the body. They have no idea where it goes once it’s in the body And it does cause a Cascade of problems after it accumulates. I hope to see you in the group! Jim Stephenson is the owner of the group and his research is phenomenal. I’ve been studying this for couple years now. Takes a while to get your head wrapped around it but once you too there is no going back! There are many people who have come to the group because they felt so awful taking D. To answer your question about levels. Think about this - in 2010 the acceptable level of 25D was 12.5! Then they raised the goal and now want a minimum of 30 and ranging all the way up to 100 or more. This is insanity. A perfect level of 25D is 21-24. That is where the lowest all cause mortality is. Your 1,25D should be 1.5 to 2.0 times the level of your 25D if it’s in the normal range. I hope that helps 😀

Ie…weight, health conditions, sun exposure etc. as th dr brought out. I found that d,MK7, beta carotene, ( in gel caps) and magnesium key and maintaining a higher level of blood serum D crucial in my health. It’s amazing how quickly these levels drop if stopped. Toxicity is rare and usually someone really going overboard. But always check blood levels with supplementation!! So important

We've spent so many years, decades really, telling people to avoid any natural sunlight at all because of concerns about skin cancer that this is where we are: epidemic low Vitamin D levels. Don't get me wrong, skin cancer is very serious, and some people, because of their genetic background (very light skinned) should avoid the sun, but I think we've gone too far. A little natural sunlight is good and the best source of Vitamin D. Take a walk! Get some fresh air!

Can you please share with us combination of Vitamin D and Vitamin K2. As i heard, is much better to take those two vitamins together for better calcium absorption. So, if we take only Vitamin D3, then we can increase calcium levels in our blood vessels which can lead to stroke or heart attack. Vitamin K2 must be taken in order to successfully send all the calcium into the bones, and not to remain in the blood vessels. Correct me if I'm wrong.

@@janetbrown3349 My D level is 214 ng/ml, however my blood calcium level is mid range normal. The danger with too high a D level is that D can increase blood calcium levels which can be dangerous. There are 3 main minerals that regulate the calcium in the blood stream so that high levels of D are not dangerous, however they do require monthly tests too make sure your calcium hasn't gotten out of control, Magnesium, Potassium and K2 all regulate blood calcium levels. But I do agree that levels over 100 ng/ml should be watched carefully and blood calcium levels must be observed to remain in the normal range. Always take one of the minerals to make sure to control blood calcium. I'm not too concerned with my D level since my calcium level is normal, as one strong exposure to an illness would knock my D levels down fast. I will be testing at least every other month.

I have to say this unbelievable. People taking 10s of thousands of UI a day with no problem. I was taking 2500UI/day and after a week I started to have heart pains. Didn’t realized that from the beginning. The good thing is I only take one thing at a time. It is easier to figure out if something goes wrong. I learned that from taking Mg. I had the same problem. My heart doctor told me I have symptoms of heart ischemia. And that was from taking 300mg for 2 weeks. Same with Vitamin B1 at 300mg/day. So I wander how these people taking these doses without any side effects? Even at lower doses there are synergy and antagonism between minerals and vitamins which creates side effects. Scary prescribing vitamins and minerals without even consulting a person. Eating same time of food for a long time create medical problems but taking minerals or vitamins doesn’t? Somehow naturopathic “doctors” think that food is classified in good and bad. Well I guess everybody should be healthy if they follow the advice to eat only good foods…. No wander they are called quacks. They way things are going these days every doctor should be called James Bond. They all have a license to kill.
