Isolated the rice bran extract (pedishing) that cured beri beri disease in birds. 2. Identified the presence of the amino group (-NH2) in the extract. 3. Initially named it "vitamine" (with an "e" at the end). 4. Later realized that not all vitamins contain the amino group, so he dropped the "e" and renamed it "vitamin".
