As you can see the rims are already layered with glue.. Two to 3 coats recommended. It is very very important the the tire is also prepped with at least one layer of dry Glue before doing what he is doing. If this is the case then he did it right..

It's Vittoria's Mastik Pro, different methods

Those glues have solvents that migrate straight through the skin into the bloodstream. The warnings on the label are no joke, I've known two guys who handled solvents like that and have died of cancer.
Four years on and… I stand corrected! Thanks for the enlightenment.
@tzed25094 ай бұрын
@@dddzzzdddzzz no worries, they should have shown a close up of the product. If you look closely you can see the mechanic is squeezing it out of a plastic container, not a tube like the regular solvent-based Mastik.

Did my first time effort of gluing tubulars to my front and rear wheels using Mastic Pro. Only required one coat of glue to the rim and one to the tyre base tape, which is different to what others seem to do. It went reasonably well except for the glue getting onto the rim side walls and breaking surfaces. Contrary to what the instructions say its impossible to wash off the glue with water, did the best I could but it looks messy. Didn't like the applicator tubes, next time I'll buy a tub of glue instead. All in all I'm quite happy with my effort, can't wait to try them out in a couple of days. Hopefully the tubulars will stay on! :))

Sniffing Vittoria Mastik'One Professional glue with Rage Against The Machine background musica rocks !!
Bare hands using the solvent-soaked rag to clean the rim and to apply the glue. These toluene/xylene solvents go right through your skin and damage your liver. Sure, using a brush and gloves doesn’t make the job easier, but cancer really sucks.

vittoria so just one layer on the tyre too?
@ericpmoss7 жыл бұрын
Yes, for Mastik Pro glue, one layer on the tyre, and let dry until on the dry side of 'tacky'. Then one thin layer on the rim and mount the tire. If you don't let it dry enough on the tyre, it's liquidy/slippery enough to slide right off the rim as you try to stretch it onto the rim that still has liquidy glue. It can be very messy, especially if you use too much of the glue -- the blister packs hold enough to do a pair of cyclocross rims. Another thing to note that I never got from the printed instructions or the official Mastik Pro video is to put more than enough glue on the rim, BUT use your thumb to create a uniform and thin layer in the rim center/sides, and push a bead of excess glue onto the boundary between well and brake track. Then mount the tire, and smush the bead of excess glue back in to seal the tire/rim interface. You can use extra glue to coat the sidewalls if you like. My initial mistake was to use all the glue (way too much), not let that on the tyre dry enough, and not thin the layer on the rim with my thumb as this mechanic did -- it was a mess for me. Lesson learned!

@EF504045 жыл бұрын
Gurk E wrong. If you were able to easily remove a glued tubular, then it wasn’t glued properly. Glue is superior especially under heat, heavy braking, and heavy cornering. The adhesive on tape is nowhere near as strong after curing as glue.

Ok this thing does NOT come off with water.. Slipped a tub off the rim when trying to mount it (my fault) and touched the still damp glue on the rim.. Made a total mess, glue everywhere, put the wheel in the bathtub, rubbed it with a sponge plentynof water and laudry detergent and there is STILL a lot of glue on the wheel.... Hope it will scrub off once dry otherwise I will never ever buy something labeled vittoria. Sorry but it just doesn't work like in the instructions. Dropped some small amount on the floor (tiles) and no way it came out with water and a towel. Had to rub like crazy to get it off, what a nightmare that was..
