Pilates did wonders for me. I used to feel like I needed to go to the chiropractor for back pain given my computer job and using iPhone a lot. Since doing Pilates even once a week I feel infinitely better and don’t feel the need to go to chiro. So good for the spine! And toning the body

I was in very good shape from strength and cardio training, but I found that Pilates really improved my flexibility and lengthened my muscles out. My body changed shape from pilates, becoming leaner while retaining strength. I think that it might be a question of what you want to be able to do with your body and how you want to look as you decide whether or not it's for you.

let it be motivation! I go to the gym and see tons of fit buff people. and i know they didnt start like that. they had to work to obtain it at the gym. That man looks somewhat aged and very well fit. That could be you in the future!

Keep in mind: this is a more intermediate-level class. The reformer can make the exercises harder - but it can also make them easier. That is the great part about Pilates! You should find a studio and try the reformer out. It is a lot of fun.

I took a reformer class at my gym when I got some points for belonging 6 months so I used them for a private reformer session. I go to the gym a lot, yoga, barbell classes, dance, cardio, nautilous etc. Afterward:I immediately had an injury avoiding skill, & for some reason after getting no male attention for the past few years, I went somewhere & the guys were literally fist fighting over me & elbowing each other out of the way to talk to me & I could bound in & out of a crowd with ease.

@lo739lu , Just out of curiosity, have you done Pilates before? The Wunda Chair was invented by Joseph Pilates for Gymnasts. Go to your local Pilates studio and see if you can do a work out on it. It's difficult and forces you to pull everything in, otherwise, you would fly off! Yoga and Pilates are from two different schools of thoughts on how to use the belly. Big difference in fact! And it seems like the video was slowed down purposely so that people could follow along.

this was beautifully executed by the class. Slow and controlled. Very nice. I am curious what the spring(s) were for the first few exercises before they loaded them up for sideovers?

Found this video because I'm taking my first pilates reformer class tomorrow. Now I'm wishing I hadn't watched this because there's no way in hell my core is strong enough to do most of this. 😂

@lo739lu, Just FYI, I teach Pilates and have a number of clients who are former gymnasts. They come to me for rehab. Pilates (and yoga) are great for preventative exercises, as well. Many of those clients tell me they wish they'd done Pilates while they were doing gymnastics, as the two compliment each other well and they perhaps could have avoided injury. On the flip side (sorry!) I have an older client who recently told me she did a cartwheel for the first time in years!

@lo739lu, check out "Pilates Sports Center, Advanced Pilates Cadillac Techniques". Look at the exercise when the client holds onto the straps, lifts up into a pike/teaser, flips up and over, and completely rotates around the shoulder girdle. Similar to rings. Joe Pilates also invented the apparatus to assist his clients in mat work. It's made of steel. So of course they can't move around as freely, but it was more to help rehabilitate injuries. @1leora only traditionally speaking. With human ingenuity it's best to adopt the attitude "never say never". Imagine where we would all be now if Joseph said to himself, "I have to exercise like the military taught me, I am not allowed to explore and invent new and better ways to approach exercise"

Lo739lu have you used a pilates reformer...... ???? it makes the exercises you would do on the mat harder by adding resistance !

Can you please guide me and my husband on which pilates reformer to purchase for home and which company or store that offers the best price. We are familiar with balanced body (we love) but do not have to have this particular brand. We would love to be able to use your videos thereafter

It’s not. You lay on your back and can adjust how hard it is through the Springs with different weights. Go for it

In long spine the hands of the first man should be flat on the carriage and fingers reaching away front the crown of the head towards the feet. Not great that the teacher doesn't spot this and correct him!

Como assim para homem gay. Tem que ser muito macho, ter muita força para ser um bom aluno. Gay ou não, isso não faz diferença, a opção sexual não interfere em nada. Pilates e pra qualquer um que queira praticar, queira melhorar seu corpo e manter-se saudável. Parem de dar tanta importância a opção sexual das pessoas.

I could not even watch the video because I was so fixated on the fact that the instructor looks like a two-dimensional version of a person. When she went over to do some fixing of the reformers it looked like a small drawing of an elf had been doing the work and I was concerned that she would not have the strength to move any of the apparatus.

No need to be so offensive. Maybe she has a condition or maybe she is just born skinny. Or maybe youre just jealous. But there is no need to hate. She does a wonderful thing for a living helping people become stronger there is no need for you to be disrespectful. And she actually look quite normal to me.

They laughed when I told them I was going to burn calories with "Atomic Fat Loss", but then they saw the results. Go and google "Atomic Fat Loss" to see their reaction.

Thank you for your nice comments. The class is using two blue Balanced Body springs for the movements done prior to side overs. For a newer client, I would suggest using less resistance for scissors, and more resistance for spine and thigh stretch.
