A really good beginner reformer work out. I am disabled with a spinal deformity and spinal cord injury, I unable to do most work outs, and the reformer is the best option I found to keep fit. I am fused L3-S1 and C5-7, so I am unable to do any side stretches, but I was able to do the rest of the video. The upper body portion was very difficult, I have no upper body strength, so I will keep working on that area.

Hello! I have been doing reformer Pilates at a studio for almost a year on and off with the closing during the pandemic. I am looking into a home machine but the spx home reformers don’t have the ability to add the Cadillac. At the studio we used the spring wall. I was wondering if I will feel like I am not being challenged enough without the Cadillac or spring wall? Is the reformer actually enough to challenge the body? Maybe the teachers weren’t utilizing the full potential of the reformer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
@JohnGareyTV3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. You can use the Reformer for many many different exercises. A lot of times, we get stuck in the same few exercises. A good program has tons of variety. I do believe that the different pieces of Pilates equipment emphasize different things, but they can all accomplish a full body workout. Hope that helps. :)

These are meant to be sample workouts. I would aim for 30+ minutes per day of Pilates or some kind of movement to start. And, move every day, but vary what you're doing. For strength training formats, 3-4 times per week - For cardio formats 4-6 days per week. Hope that helps. :)

Hi. Can you help me better understand "neutral" alignment? I just did a pilates mat class and was told to cup/scoop the lower abdomen so the navel was pull towards the floor and up and that there is NO space and the was a slight scoop or tilt of the pelvis?
@JohnGareyTV4 жыл бұрын
Hi - It can get confusing, and I'm not in agreement with everyone on this for sure. What you described above is a more traditional Pilates position "the scoop and tuck". According to most schools, that is not neutral. Neutral is usually described as have the "natural" curve of the lower spine (lumbar). For most people the lower back would have a gentle curve forward and there would be a small space between your lower back and the mat, but not a forced or exaggerated curve. And, to help hold that position and support your lumbar spine, your abs are engaged on all sides, not scooped, but more like a built in girdle that wraps around the whole midsection and lower abs. I prefer that position for myself, but you need to try both and see which feels better to you. I personally don't think there's a wrong answer here, unless you have issues with your spine, etc. It's really what you're training toward and what feels best in my opinion. Also, there will be different exercises that require or may feel better with different position of the spine and pelvis. I hope that helps some. :)

I know some people use them for the Reformer workouts, but they're not ideal for a Pilates workout imo. I would research either Balanced Body (they make a great home version and have multiple price points), or Merrithew (which is the brand I'm using), as they also make an affordable home version. If you shop on Amazon or at Costco, you'll get the best shipping options as well.
