...And would you believe that some people consider Baroque music "mechanical, like mathematics"? I've heard people make these comments and can only guess they are repeating others' opinions because they have no sensibility or taste. This music, and these musicians, demonstrate the full range of Baroque emotion: grandiose, opulent, thrilling, even explosive. A big part of Baroque music is painting musical pictures: angry waves, gentle breezes, and with musical tropes that were universally understood as depicting joy or sorrow; these are still part of our musical DNA. Notice how the vocal line and instrumental s use the same musical materials: Baroque composers did not always differentiate between instruments and voices, singers need the same virtuosity as violinists! Bartoli - what can one say? It's like this music was written for her. ❤

@@EleniOperaNoir There is underlying "math" such as frequencies and overtones, acoustic science, etc. But no one learns music to be told: Just play like it's mathematics. Our teachers are always encouraging us to evoke emotion. All composers are aiming to create an emotional response. They say so! It's like the blueprint for a cathedral is math/science, but the finished cathedral is a sublime (ie Emotional) experience.

Cecilia Bartoli is by far my favorite singer. I have loved her for over 25 years. But this comment goes to the recorder player. He is incredible. I have studied the recorder and can tell you that the sopranino recorder is an easy instrument to make a sound on. A very unpleasant sound! It takes a lot to make it sound beautiful. This man is a master. The emotion and technique he possesses are exquisite. Truly superb. Much respect to Cecilia for not cutting that section from the set list. ❤️

One of the most marvelous concerts I ever had the privilege to listen to - and watch! What an utterly outstanding singer “La” Bartoli is and with what grace and personality she fills the stage. I am actually a jazz fan starting to listen to Vivaldi’s music by accident visiting a church in Venice where an exposition took place about Vivaldi. For a long time I only listened to instrumental Vivaldi music. But Later I was looking for more music with vocalists and arrived to listen to this lady. Many years ago when I did not know the existence of Ms Bartoli, I was at the Met backstage to see a staff member and I heard her singing from one of the rehearsal rooms. I couldn’t believe it was a human voice, and the staff woman said, “That’s Cecilia Bartoli; isn’t she wonderful!” I had never heard such singing and all I could say was “Wow, it’s a real vocal acrobatics!” Then I bought “Nina” at the Met shop.

Since I have discovered for myself immense talents of Cecilia Bartoli I have to almost always readjust to another singer however good one. And there are a lot of good singers out there. But what gets me is her unbelievable ability express emotion to the fullest in all its nuances and crescendos while delivering all of it through the colors of her voice. Whatever she does with it I don't really care since technical details I leave to professionals. But her singing at times turns one inside out it is so moving and penetrating. She is huge artist that have her own answer to everything that excellence in singing demands - expression, technique, voice command, flexibility, diction and artistic instincts. All of it in extreme degrees of development. She is just unbelievable. Whatever the jaded professionals might tell you. And they do tell all kinds of things. I simply tune out. What Cecilia Bartoli does is TRUE ART. There is no degrees to it - it's just is or not. End of story. For that kind of soul nourishment I am disregarding all the silly criticisms to her artistry. Thanks for the sharing of this amazing event. Million thanks to Maestra Bartoli and fantastic Il Giardino Armonico.

It is incredible the virtuosity of Bartoli. She is a great Mezzo soprano. She has a great coloratura voice. I think she is one of the best singers today.
