I can relate to that one. It's the hallmark of a great RPG when you get drawn into the story that deeply, and you feel a real(ish) emotional connection. I play a lot of bioware games and found the same thing. Run the quests and suddenly the dialog suddenly dries up and they repeat the same line over and over.....

Soul mate is so horrifying and also just so incredibly true in rpg games. Such a sucky feeling for a trusted companion to become just another npc
@namor3607 Жыл бұрын
Soulmate goes down to bad writing. You never make a character more important than they actually are. If an npc is a one-off, don't write them into a beloved character. If a character is going to be intense (and this doesn't happen accidentally) then write them a proper ending to give the audience resolution or make them an on-going character. Simple as.

This is supposed to be a parody but “Soulmate” made me cry. This is totally uncalled for :( Edit: To those who shared the same sentiment with me and defended me, thank you! I'm sorry that I'm late because I've been avoiding this comment section for a long time because of the trolls flooding the thread. But you guys went in and defended and I'm really grateful for that. I really appreciate it. I wish you guys the best. Soulmate is just an incredible short so it touched me a lot. Viva La Dirt League are so good at acting. To the replies who took my comment way too seriously for some reason, I was obviously joking when I said “uncalled for”, but I did cry that time. To make things clear, I joked "uncalled for" because I came here expecting to laugh and I ended up getting emotional when Soulmate started playing. So yeah, overreacting is how I joke. I had tears but I wasn't wailing as you guys made it out to be. Does that make me stupid and need to see a psychiatrist? No, because we’re all different people with different reactions. For those who hate me just because of my simple comment, stay mad I guess. I don't understand how starting a fight with strangers satisfies you, especially since some of you are implying there's something wrong with my behavior based on one comment! I know it's the internet but it takes zero effort to not be rude. Also, I’m not into girls and I do have a boyfriend. So stop telling me to get a girlfriend. It’s not going to make me less emotional.

Most of the comments and replies I see here were directed towards the female actress not the male actor. Simply because when it comes to attention, society is biased towards hot women. Hot men may get attention but not as much hot women. The actor was clearly the better one in this scene for me after thinking through. He showed more humanity and was the victim. Telling the real victim is hard sometimes...especially when many women like to victimise themselves as a form of manipulation to gain advantage

You should put an easter egg in a later video with him 50 years later and old with her the same age with him smiling and accepting the quest reply, that would be awesome.
@TheKirbs014 жыл бұрын
The only catch with that logic would be, that yes, while she is an NPC, he is still not a human. His character in game would be an avatar, and thus just the same as the NPC, also wouldn't age. The player behind the avatar WOULD age, but the avatar itself would retain the same age as the NPCs. But yes, a send back to this in a later video would be awesome.

I love how these sketches illuminate the flaws of modern RPGs. Really makes you rethink how "immersive" some games really are.
@NinjaLegacy8053 жыл бұрын
Very good point. Our imagination fills in the gaps.
@Vihara23 жыл бұрын
they're rather lazy devs to be sure, however keeping it simple is better for immersion than extensive endless gigabytes of code that will still fail to immerse you
@Euer_Hochwuergen3 жыл бұрын
why rethink? It has been obvious from the beginning... but it serves its purpose when it's new, but the shine fades when you get older and play the same games that are always made according to the same scheme, over and over, year after year... that's the way it is with the economy, the same patterns can also be found in movies and series and in pop music. and as long as new consumers who are not yet bored with the same stuff keep growing, nothing will change
@chuanli75263 жыл бұрын
When you think about it, even a novel can be immersive, and it does that without pictures or sounds. I think it's about how well the game guides you through the experience, so that you immerse yourself in the parts they've put work into, and don't notice the parts they leave blank/let your imagination fill in the blanks.
