Of the Four Seasons, Autumn has always been my favorite. I've heard this passage dozens of times, performed by many different ensembles. And yet hearing this performance, showcasing Voices of Music's strict adherence to the original intent of the work, somehow felt like I was experiencing it for the first time. It felt so different! I heard legato where I expected staccato, pizzicato seemingly out of nowhere, and a beautiful harpsichord solo that was completely new to me. It's clear that this piece has undergone many changes over the years, to some apparent detriment. I don't know that I could go back to listening to the versions I have in my own collection. This was utterly magnificent.

This is just a wonderful performance. When it comes to Baroque music which is my favorite era, I always prefer listening to it played on period instruments. There is a richness in the sonorities that modern instruments simply do not convey. I started listening to Christopher Hogwood and the Academy of Ancient Music and Trevor Pinnock with the English Concert many years ago. I have always loved the work of those two ensembles, and have always considered them to be the top echelon when it comes to playing music on period instruments. I consider your group right up there alongside them. Superb playing, wonderful tone and balance I am glad your group is continuing to bring this wonderful music on period instruments.
