This piece was playing when my mother died, making the experience of her passing quite heavenly, really. I will always remember it.

It must be such a powerful feeling to be able to play Vivaldi so masterfully. It amazes me that every single finger movement and placement, and pressure on the bow is neatly tucked away in the brain ready to come alive anytime.

Also, this is a fantastic example of perfect recording engineering techniques captured in what sounds like an acoustically perfect venue...for once, the microphones are not placed too close to the players, thus eliminating that awful "scratchy" sound found in so many recordings of stringed instruments...

This is the best recording of this concerto on KZbin. It shows every little part of the music; every staccato, dynamic, and bowing. All of this comes with the soloist's incredible style and emotion. I am a middle schooler playing the first movement of this for a solo completion. This helps so much! Let's hope I get the best rating! Thanks

I'm beginning to run out of superlatives when commenting on any performance by VOM - they are all clearly 'soloists' in their own right! However, whenever they perform with outstanding individual soloists - either instrumental, voice or choral - they always manage to raise their music-making to an even higher level! Thank you, Hanneke van Proosdij !

Thank you VoM for another top drawer performance! I have neither the funds nor the physical ability to come see you live, but these offerings make a strong next best thing, and when you release a new video, it makes my week, and sometimes even my month. When you're home bound due to disability and your biggest interest is music with an emphasis on historically informed performances, this comes as a huge treat! I was working toward a BMus and studying historically informed performance with Nic McEgan in the year when I became paralyzed as the result of being hit by a drunk driver. For that reason, I watch these with a bit more knowledge than the casual viewer, and appreciate the vast number of hours it takes first to become that good, and second, to put together a concert. Practicing to become that good really requires full dedication to your instrument and the art.. That is probably in part what gives me my affinity for the work you're doing. It's the sheer quality of your work which gives me my love of it. If I lived near where you perform, I'd have to resort to 24 hour a day panhandling so I could get tickets to all your performances. It would be that serious an addiction.

Wow! Best performance I've ever heard of this, and I've heard a lot of them. These days we have a lot of Baroque bands to choose from, but in my humble opinion, VoM speaks the Baroque language as good or better than any of them. If I lived in the bay area, I'd sell my body until I had enough money to buy season tickets. These folks are just top drawer. No question about it. I am just everlastingly glad that they share some of their work here on KZbin. I would not have an opportunity to listen to them were it not for this.

I played this concerto when I was about 13 years old, I think every single violin student has practiced Vivaldi A Minor, RV 356, OP 3,Nr. 6...this was the best version I can think of! Generally a little faster than I'm used to. Sounds beautiful!!!! My father is a pianist and always accompanied me when I practiced. High talent or not. With a father obsessed with classical music, practicing the violin becomes torture. Gonna buy myself an electric violin tomorrow..so excited 😆

this is such a beautiful music and interpretation that I am not able to grasp how this happened. I listened to this piece many many times over the years but never heard such a magical playing and orchestra (even with masks on lol). Especially the Largo part is my favorite. 4:55-- could be performed a tad slower. Vivaldi's 'Farewell Concertos': the rythmic structure here folds the soul and elevates it to heighness divine.
@ligetisspaghetti57632 жыл бұрын
i liked it
@VoicesofMusic2 жыл бұрын
The A minor concerto is not a "Farewell concerto," it is a relatively early work, published in Amsterdam in 1711--you could call it a "stepping out" concerto. The term "Farewell concerto" originated as a modern marketing device for a late manuscript set--a full thirty years later than this work--for Vinciguerra VI, Count of Collalto; however, as other musicologists have noted, there is nothing elegiac in these later works and Vivaldi had no intention of winding up his career.
@VoicesofMusic2 жыл бұрын
Another reason that the "Farewell" is a misnomer is that some of the works in this late manuscript were written much earlier, and Vivaldi simply resold them. For example, the C Major concerto RV 186 is written on a rare Bohemian paper that can be dated to 1730-1731, ten years earlier, and that earlier version is the one that Vivaldi himself kept as his reference work in the Turin collection.
@anaxiomenes39642 жыл бұрын
The music structure in 'Farewell Concertos' certainly evokes sounds that resemble the 'ending of an endeavour, a push' that took herculean effort to accomplish. Time to move on... Could I take the liberty and a moment of inspiration and christen the event with a poetic title: 'Concerti dell'Addio'? The circumstances simply call for a title with artistic beauty that conveniently replaces an alphanumeric option. The 'artistic title' does not have any relationship to its author reaching a particular moment in his artistic/biological life.
@giorgiolamborghini8132 жыл бұрын
If Vivaldi had wanted it a little slower he would have indicated "Vivace" or "Allegro" or "Allegretto". The "Presto" indicates a very fast movement as exactly Voices of Music did and then, in my opinion, they did not exaggerate.
