I recommend watching non-sponsored reviews of this headset!!!
@VRManCaveАй бұрын
I highly highly recommend that too! But this is not a review, it's just an overview of some of the features :) I still need to test it a lot more to be able to put out a review, and that type of video will never be sponsored.

I never said it's a review as I don't accept sponsorships for reviews. It's simply an overview of the features, and a non-sponsored review is in the works.

When I started looking at these I was very excited. Then I saw they used fresnel lenses..... If these came with pancake, they'd be able to compete with Q3. I can't see spending that much on a HMD and getting bad lenses.

@@richpeltier9519 I was totally in the same boat before trying it, but fresnel lenses are not inherently bad, and there are ones that are more than decent. Having this type of lens has it’s advantages and drawbacks, but overall I think this is a good headset.

How is it while wearing headphones?
@VRManCaveАй бұрын
It's very comfy but you do need headphones that will have enough space between the headband and your head. The headstrap of the headset is curved so there's nothing on your ear itself.

To use the eyetracking in menus, you need to go in settings and under Beta Features to activate it. For PCVR it can be used for dynamic foveated rendering in games that support it, or even other games using OpenXR Toolkit.

It's not really clear who this headset is for. At this price (and another $149 for the DisplayPort wired streaming kit) it's disappointing to see that it doesn't have pancake lenses and is using such an old chip. It doesn't seem to be much better than a Quest 3 for PCVR. I've seen reviews saying that it's also riddled woth software issues, though I guess those will be ironed out with fixes. It's cheaper than Apple's offering but not as good, and anyone willing to fork out this amount of money is probably already ready to buy Apple.
@SargonDragonАй бұрын
It's aimed at hardcore VRChat users. You know how many other headsets there are on the market right now which have eye tracking, face tracking, and FBT as officially supported product features? Zero. That's the market its aiming for. And yes, I know there are other ways to get these features. But all of them require discontinued headsets, crafting, and hacks. That limits accessibility to only highly technically savvy and skilled tinkerers. The Vive Focus Vision is unique in having all of these features officially 1st party supported and easy for anyone to use... and with a warranty! The older XR2 CPU isn't really an issue because this is not really a standalone headset in this role. Vive isn't seriously attempting to compete on standalone here. The XR2 is being used for tracking and other ancillary functions. With the dp connection, this is a PCVR headset. I agree about the software issues though. This headset isn't really succeeding in its aims right now. But Vive does seem to be seriously working on it. Will be interesting to see how well it does once they've stabilized it.
@MrMarcusIndiaАй бұрын
@SargonDragon Thanks for the detailed and considered response. I genuinely didn't know that they're were "hard-core VRChat" users, but can see how these feature would appeal to such an audience. I get that it isn't seriously intended as a standalone headset but am still surprised that they went with a chip nearly four years old and with the decision on the lens type given its other PCVR credentials, though I'm admittedly not an expert on the nuances of the lenses. Still, competition is certainly good and especially in this space. I wonder when Valve will get around to their next headset!
@VRManCaveАй бұрын
@@MrMarcusIndia The displayport bundle is actually free right now as part of their Black Friday sale. Otherwise @SargonDragon absolutely nailed the explanation. Not every headset competes with each other, same as not every phone or computer does. Different headsets for different user bases and interests.

one of the giant issues with pancake lenses is they eat a TREMENDOUS amount of light and require much brighter screens to work. Pancakes look better in every way but they are a a big strain on the system overall.

@VRManCaveАй бұрын
I never tried to hide that it was sponsored, but I had complete freedom to talk about whatever I wanted. I never accept sponsors if they try to make me say what they want me to say. I've spent years building up trust with my viewers, so I would never jeopardize that for a sponsorship, especially since it's not like I'm this huge channel that makes life changing money from sponsorships. The full review is coming, but I need to test it a lot more to ensure the review is comprehensive.
