Sounds pretty clean to me,and that's just through my laptop.Certainly not anywhere near an absolute assessment of course,but a good impression.I remember the Micromega player back in the nineties .Their ''Data and Dialog'' transport and Dac combination sounded good too.Clear,precise and detailed from memory,and will still better many new players i feel. A nice system.

Hi Terry, I'm curious if you plan to audion the Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC at some point. I found it a much more enjoyable listen than my former DAVE/M Scaler combo which I honestly felt was very fatiguing for me and just not "fun."
@connorduke4619

Mola Mola is also a FPGA Dac though. It's performance approximates the Dave but does not completely eliminate fatiguing digital glare. For that you might wish to consider the R2R dac route.

@@connorduke4619 Thanks Connor. It's always facinating how human ears can differ so much. I compared the DAVE directly with the Mola Mola and immediately traded in the DAVE. I find the Tambaqui far more enjoyable to listen to with noticeably less digital glare then the DAVE.

@@connorduke4619 Also, the Tambaqui is not a delta sigma. It is FPGA.

@@davida8682 I know, I sometimes lump all chip dacs together but should not - corrected.

@@davida8682 I do recall another reviewer stated the Dave without the M-scaler sounded "pixilated". Mola Mola is my preferred FPGA Dac. Just personally like the way R2R Dacs esp. Holo May can make voices linger in the air for longer that makes them "magical" to my ears.

Can you recommend a good Mahlers Fifth cd album to buy so I can get it for my own testing purposes - thanks

At least the voice is coloured and, well, yes, unnatural. I think there's no point in making video demos if the camera or mike are not properly placed, if not on, at least very close to the sweet spot.
@PursuitPerfectSystem
@PursuitPerfectSystem 6 жыл бұрын
agreed but if I did that you wouldnt see anything except the back of a head - very difficult to do both with a full room. However in the future things might be different as I become more well established. As it is doing the best I can and to not get in anyone else's way as that would be unfair to them.
@fullranger3435

I think everybody would be happy if you just placed the camera and mike or, only the stereo-mike (I'd suggest a binaural dummy-head as best- if you have a long, reliable cable), on a tripod, about two feet in front of the central front chair, a little lower than eye-level. ( Are the camera and the mike at different spots in this recording?). Anyway, as you become better established (and I'm wishing you all the best), the exhibitors will be more cooperative. After all, it'll be for the best presentation of their product.

Full Ranger the mic is attached to the camera. I will be honest what your suggesting is little difficult to setup 20 times a day, pack away and move and try and speak to people and film all at once. I do plan to improve what I am doing but have no plan to do binaural recordings at this stage.
@fullranger3435

Well, if the camera and mike are at the same spot, then you are at a very good spot during this recording. Almost at the sweet spot, without anyone blocking, at least midrange and tweeter view. In that case there's an issue with the loudspeaker or system/room interaction.
@PursuitPerfectSystem
@PursuitPerfectSystem 6 жыл бұрын
Full Ranger then you will get mediocre at best video and its not always possible to get the sweet spot when you walk into a room full of people. Its also not fair to just plonk a tripod down in front of people who have bought a ticket and are there to enjoy the day just to try and make it better for people who havent bought a ticket. Think about it. If you want to hear it better please attend the show next year.

Sounds unnatural.

That was one of the best sounds at the show - tight and focused and crisp with full harmonic richness to boot Nothing unnatural about that - it sounded correct and uncoloured by the signal and the room. Amazing Sound.

Michael is right. Take the Chris Jones song at 2:16...we've heard this song in all the systems possible, at all the shows possible...we know it by heart..I have the LP too. The voice is so so much more forward than anything i've heard on ANY system. Of course, it could be that your microphone is more sensitive to the midrange (many are) so what we hear here on youtube is a reflection of that. Just for comparision listen to this track from other hi-fi shows demo videos here on youtube.

Well the microphone is in the far back left of the listening area outside well the sweetspot and outside the 2 speakers The freq response of the speakers will be wildly off in this area - its just to give an idea - the system was sounding a little forward but precise and clean so it got away with it totally. It was sounding great.
@youwhatmadeidk

I don't mean it sounds unnatural because of its clarity, but its imaging. It doesn't sound cohesive to me, not as 3 dimensional as you can get from coaxials.

Michael The Sociopath cannot judge imaging since the microphone was at the back to the left so anywhere near the centre or ideal position as the OP mentioned above
