Vivo is the peak of phone photography in my opinion, but again in an age of stagnation where every company is making the same phone vivo delivered a phone that is beyond our imagination I have seen a comparison between vivox100 ultra and vivo x200pro and the 1inch sensor isn't just a spec it shows you the very big difference between them I'll try to link the comparison to see it yourself and hopefully you make the same one
@UpgradeLemonade2 күн бұрын
Phones like the Vivo are really good for close to mid range shots. They have trouble competing on wider more dynamic landscape shots or far distance. That said i think we are at a point where phones can replace cameras even for camera enthusiasts. And if people dont agree within the next 2-5 years this conversation will get even closer. Its inevitable. To be honest its just so hard to justify a camera purchase these days. Sure you can get better shots but it takes a lot more effort , time, money (generally thousands extra) and you have to deliberately think to bring the camera out. The phone is with you all the time regardless cause that's our modern world.
@ThroughJermainesLensКүн бұрын
I am not sure if we will get there because we still have the natural limitations of size. The larger sensor size not only of course helps with low light, but the bigger thing for me is the depth it gives, like you see things more in the foreground being blurred where with the vivo it is naturally in focus basically. That allows for instance shots in the forest to have a better point of focus compared to a phone.
@UpgradeLemonadeКүн бұрын
@ThroughJermainesLens it'll get there, size limitations are a bit overblown. The chips and sensors will be good enough with proper processing
@joelconolly5574Күн бұрын
Hard to justify at similar price, but better to get at higher price. Camera still offer better performance as it has far better sensor, can reach further with better lenses. As good as smartphones are, nothing can beat physics. We won't have beyond 1 inch smartphones anytime soon.
@UpgradeLemonadeКүн бұрын
@joelconolly5574 if you work as a photographer sure but for most people even enthusiasts who will just post on socials (honestly even plenty of paid work use only socials as a medium) then you can very easily get away with a smartphone. A camera is a big investment and getting those wow shots/clips generally takes a lot of time and editing. It's not only because of the sensor physics.

It seems like most of the differences were due to the processing. Phone cameras from Xiaomi, Vivo, even Google, have a ton of sharpening and denoising, and HDR algorithms which change the colours and the whole feel sometimes. I think you could try GCam on Vivo X200Pro with a good library and xml. You might be surprised how much better the organic feel might be from the phone cam itself. There is a tg group dedicated for that. Basically to give you an idea, GCam output would be similar to you taking a RAW file and working on it yourself, but GCam would give you that in a few seconds. I think it would be great if you could compare the RAW files from the cam vs X200p. That way it would be apples to apples and we'd know the pure and real difference between the two.

The color science is different that's about it. And the color science is not necessary near original color either. To make things worst, the Gcam library is tweaked by many so much so everyone's Gcam gave different results.

I think a full frame camera is too unfair for tiny sensor on a smartphone. Fairer comparison should be with APSC sensor or point and shoot camera. And, the comparison should be made at its native focal length of the phone as digital zoom degrades quality. While cameras with proper lenses will always be at their natives focal length. Although I would like to see Vivo's 10x digital 230 mm stacked against the proper lens with APSC camera body as 10x on Vivo is still pretty good. Alien technologies channel has shown that X100 ultra can hold their own against APSC mirrorless camera, ZVe10 in terms of details but still lose in terms of depth of field.

I think a dedicated camera is always going to win simply because it's a specialized tool. A smartphone, regardless of how good it is, it'll always trail behind a dedicated camera. It's physics. But should that be the end of the conversation? Absolutely not! Smartphone cameras have gotten so good, that for the most part, they have replaced the point and shoot cameras. As long as you understand the limitations, you can do wonders with current smartphone cameras.

Nah, nowadays professional cameras are worth only if you are using them for professional cases ( wedding / wildlife etc ). If you are jost a hobby-ist photographer, the phone will get you similar results. I used to carry my big dslr everywhere, now it just collects dust because my vivo is capable enough for most stuff i need. And in some cases the vivo just smashes the dslr because of the post processing. I simply don't have anymore the pacience to shoot raw and to edit them. I can do that, but why should i?
@warmoaran3Күн бұрын
@catalin9174 because the results when YOU process them will look better, and will contain more detail and information from a lousy phone JPG. @@catalin9174 my compact cameras from a decade ago make easy work of my 2023 High end phone. I'm not sure what you're seeing in your phone. My Sony flagship just has cool features, but nothing useful. Meanwhile my old compacts have a useful zoom lens, good sensitivity and good detail. I only prefer real cameras because phones are stuck in the megapixel race phase, where they all compete in trying to get the biggest numbers instead of actual quality in them small sensors, which is what camera makers were doing in the 2000s with their megapixels race, trying to get to a good resolution, and not 50mp or 200mp in a tiny sensor, which btw, makes for incredibly noisy pics at base ISO 😂
@dimadima96932 күн бұрын
I think that a large sensor does not automatically mean that it is better. First of all, a sensor is a technological topology by which it is made. For example, if you have a camera from the 2000s with a full-frame CCD matrix, then it is unlikely to compare with a smaller, but more modern ISOCELL hp9 in which the photodeodes are separated from each other by walls and other innovations

the limitations of a phone is the focal lengths, you only have primes, usually a 13mm, 24mm and a 120mm, but with a camera, you can have a zoom, and have the perfect focal length without losing quality. also, cameras give you WAY more manual control, especially colours. plus, the lenses are still very cheap. I daily drive old decade old bridge cameras, and they give phones a run for their money, let alone my APS-C EOS..

@@catalin9174 I have a Sony Xperia 1 V, and a Canon DSLR, plus many compact cameras (bridge cameras, point and shoots) You do have control on many Androids, but the form factor doesn't feel like you do.. manual focus, changing lens, all done on a screen.. Also, a real camera feels more fun, no distractions, no having to hold a slippy rectangle with almost no buttons. Many prosumer bridge cameras have physical buttons to immediately set something like macro, or the flash, on a phone, its a phone, so its on a screen.. I know that's kinda unfair, but a phone should stay a phone and not an everything device (IMO) Also, just the lack of zoom, just primes (unless you have a Sony Xperia 1 III - 1 VI) in which case, you have a limited focal range with a HORRIBLE sensor (noisy at base ISO) The cameras I daily have 1/2.5" or 1/2.3" sensors, way smaller than a phone, but the cameras I daily take much nicer pics than my phone, because their pixel area is greater than 2μm, which is why IMO, phone cams suck, too many pixels, pixel area WAYY too tiny.

As far as I'm concerned, the phones lost the "ease of use" and "portability" argument the moment they all became oversized dinner trays. Current phones are so huge and horrible to carry around that they simply just aren't that much better than a DSLR. Yes, the DSLR requires me to carry a bag pack. But so would these giant slabs 'cause they don't fit in a suit's pockets properly anymore. And considering how bad they also became as phones - without a ton of basic functionality - that argument simply doesn't work for me anymore. I used to love mobile photography, but to me it died the moment screens went above 6" and phones lost basic functionality (which is also why my mobile photography Instagram died...that and Facebook ruined the platform).
