An inspirational family sells everything to buy a wooden sailboat who then set off to travel the world for 10 years. This is their story of how they chose to turn away from a conventional lifestyle and explore on their own terms, one without the inconveniences and stress of modern living.

In my opinion is the BEST sailing voyage I've ever seen: A real CLASSIC BOAT, a nice family, that increases during the history is narrated. Relaxed and peaceful, with the sweetness of a happy family, looking for a great quantity of countries and cultures, taking the real time that is needed... I think is also the best education for the twoo beatiful girls! Congratulations, and thank you very much by let us know this nice experience!

What a wonderful video thank you! I have 3 and 6yr old grandsons. They were born in and live over in Sweden which makes me very happy. My Dad used to work for John And Billy Atkin as a boatbuilder. Then he had kids( us) and the dream came to a stop. Oh well. Thanks again.

What are the chances that in 20 years when the kids are adults, you'll reflect on your choices and say with a heart full of regret "oh, if only we had spent more time when the kids were little making money!" Thanks so much for taking the time to share. If you want to bring the kids down to Baja California for a visit (like I did when ours were little), send me a message!

thanks for your kind words...obviously, you want the same for your family...i hope you find a way to do this...when my kids were 5,3, and 1 i bought a 42 vagabond...i completed major refit and planned to shove off...everything was in place after shake down, and we were set for our first real cruise over the thanksgiving holiday from new orleans to the tortugas...katrina hit 2 week's after our weekend shakedown....i haven't given up on the dream , and my kids are older, but are ready when i am... we've had to find different ways to seek adventure , escape the norms, and get on with life....best wishes for you and yours...

Just came across your video. I dreamed of doing some extended cruising - but before I got my Sparkman and Stevens 24. restored to achieve that I developed a medical condition that prevented me. I had done a lot of local sailing before that and met numerous couples with young children aboard. I found these children always well behaved, self reliant, balanced and happy. Probably one of the best ways for children to be brought up in my opinion. So totally different to city kids who are often cheeky, undisciplined and spoilt.

So good to watch your trip and that is truly the way to go around the world. Not a life of luxury but a real-life- İ did live off the grid out in the forest for many years and no running water no electricity but close to nature and me and my two little boys were happy without all those things, no TV/PC/TLF but the sound of the birds and the smell of the forest, the wind in the trees and so on, and in the evenings the open fireplace-it was the best years of my life. Thank you for the upload.

What an amazing journey your slowly growing family has taken. So beautiful, so eye opening. Such a meaningful, positive learning experience. I grew up in the open minded, avengers hippie era, so I think it is easy for me to say with somewhat truth that your family lives a hippie style life style. Sort of hippie sea gypsy way of life, that is truly peaceful, sharing and always loving. Stay safe and stay groovy.

Wow, wow, wow!!! Very, very nice. Thank you for sharing your life and your experiences. I explored a big part of the world when I was 18 and 19, on my own. Traveling and exploring was so much simpler when I was young and didn't have much money. I've visited some of the islands this family has. So many people wait until they retire or have a lot of money, but by then, you may be too old, too frail, too bogged down with possessions, jobs, kids, house, school, debt, cars, worries, or life in general, to be able to travel and explore the world, and enjoy it without worrying about all of the above. It's been 48 years since I left on my first, big adventure. Yes, I left friends behind, yes I quit school, yes I sold everything I owned, yes I became homesick, yes I had to do some catching-up when I returned to the life I left behind. But it was SO worth it. I made friendships that I still have to this day. I became fluent (almost) in another language. I worked in other countries. I learned so much about the world beyond my little town in the USA. I met so many people who were good to me and helped me function in their countries. I learned to deal with the unknown, and to trust myself, and to trust strangers. I matured so much in a year's time on my own. I learned stuff that you can't learn in school, that you can't learn and experience in your home country, city or neighborhood. I learned to relate to people from many parts of the world, and to appreciate and understand their way of life and how they think. Most people will only have this short opportunity, this window to time to be free to explore the world, when they are young. If you don't grab this opportunity when you are young and carefree, you'll probably never have the opportunity to do so again. Although later, I continued to explore the world, with my wife, and then with our kids, it was so much more complicated and costly. Young and single is hard to beat. Just taking "a vacation" can NEVER compare to exploring the world, like this young family has done.

I know I won't be able to live in the sea like you, but I strive every day to teach my daughter that the best things that life can give her will be the simplest ones ... I hope from the bottom of my heart that your story inspires more and more people to understand the true beauty of life, just as you inspired me.

Oh what a voyage. I grew up on Cape Cod with an old wooden catboat gaffer. I'd do anything to see my home in the Azores, where it is recorded in Belmira Tavares book , Portuguese Pioneers of the United States, how my Great Grandfather sailed on his ship, propelled by sails alone to the US. Later my Papa, from Pico would travel with his brother as 2 young boys to America, with my Papa leaving his brother in California then heading to New England. He never saw any of his family again. How I know this feeling. Someday I will make it to the Azores. K from the sea. Your family is lovely. Blessings.

Thank you and your family for this beautiful, uplifting glimpse into some real happiness. What beautifully confident and competent children you are making. The singing at the end was so full of life. It's so cheering to know that people can do this. I once hoped to bring up my own daughter like this, but a devastating divorce shattered the dream and she went to school and learnt obedience and how to be miserable. I noticed how safe your daughters looked on the boat. Have you been influenced by 'The Continuum Concept'? May the winds be with you!
