The Chelsea situation in some senses reminds me of when David Moyes went to United, although obviously not with the vast amount of spending. The reason I say this is that Moyes removed all of Sir Alex's backroom staff, essentially gutting staff who had been there for years and years. Chelsea has done a similar thing where senior management of Cech to physios have been removed. This combined with buying WAY too many players has made it an extremely difficult job for any manager, let alone Potter or Lampard.
@bpbill2000 Жыл бұрын
Great video but you missed one very important thing..... Baseball. Todd Boehly's sporting background is baseball and it looks to me like he tried to run Chelsea like a baseball team. They have large rostas with players on rotation. Games are daily and players can't physically be expected to perform every day of the week, so they rotate. All these big money signings with long contracts is exactly how baseball works. As for having Poch' as a manager you may as well have stayed with potter, they are both very similar in the way they work.

These problems have been brewing and are coming to affect in a similar way that united suffered after Ferguson’s departure. It largely dates back to the window when Havertz Ziyech and Werner we’re all bought. Chelsea have had far more transfer misses than they have transfer hits since then. I would say Chelsea's problems are the following: -Started off season with lots of key players injured -Most summer signings were pretty shit except Sterling -Werner being sold and Aubameyang being shit meant Havertz, a CAM, is playing striker -A lot of new players came in in January, many have been yeeted in and don't have much time to adapt -We are super unlucky before goal as we're just missing sitters or keepers turn into prime Casillas (What I've seen in games at least) -Potter was sacked for an even worse manager -Lampard doesn't know if he has attacking players or not as he's playing Kante and Gallagher on the wings -I think the players, just like us, just want the season to end asap at this point

@chilibeer3912 Жыл бұрын
Even if the Tottenham connection wasn’t an issue I feel Poch might be a bad choice because the current Chelsea situation has the potential to be PSG 2.0. The owner will try to stack the dressing room with big egos regardless of how they fit the puzzle and he will be forced to work with a group of players that have no hope of meshing together but will still be expected to deliver the glory. They have a fanbase that is very fickle due to the Abramovic era where they got everything they wanted for years and I think Boehly tried to replicate that without actually knowing anything about football. He tried spending loads of money but didn’t know how to do it wisely. He tried ruthlessly firing managers but didn’t know how and when to do so. And finally he tried bringing back Lampard, I assume for the banter.
@frankreynolds9930 Жыл бұрын
Chelsea is far from psg 2.0. You know nothing if you feel that way. Chelsea current aim isn't even winning trophies. It's first build a young team and get top 4 and be self sufficient. A big part of it must be that the players are much bigger than the managers. There’s an imbalance between the playing squad - crammed with World Cup winners and trophy-laden stars - and Graham Potter. The guy hadn’t won or done anything. And he doesn’t have that personal authority and charisma that demands immediate respect. So the players would be looking at him and thinking “who are you?” And then they bring in Lampard - the very guy sacked to make way for Tuchel! Many of those players played under Frank. They must be thinking the same thing we are. “What a joke!” Under those conditions how are they supposed to go out and perform like an elite team?

Couple things here I understand ur banter - I could play in this club and guarantee you more than two wins, but thing is... No, no you don't and the point why? Because that is exactly how Chelsea plays at the moment. Like a bunch of friends that got together after work/school to play some football. They are not playing like a team at all and make many mistakes, frankly the same as you would, if anything this is exactly how it would go if random people who think are decent in football or play together in Sunday League or wherever got together and tried to play on top level. Most people felt like Potter was an amazing manager - absolutely not, it was pretty divided actually and I am not talking about sacking Tuchel, but about Potter himself. I didnt think it will work out well (yeah I didnt think it will go this badly either, but I didnt see the potential and expertise a lot of people talked about). Points pretty much as you said. Like what did he achieve until Chelsea's job? He managed swansea and that wasnt anything amazing. Then Brighton and it went 15th, 16th, 10th with still negative GD, and then he was appointed when we were not even halfway in next season and only then Brighton was really high. We are talking about one okay season and one overachieving and based on that there were shouts that he is the best new manager. It's just not. Dont get me wrong, Brighton had an amazing season for sure, but I heard shouts about Ranieri being new Pep when Leicester won the league and where is he now? It's not only about the manager and Chelsea are not Brighton. This is not even English Tax anymore which did contribute to this also. The new signings - also very important thing to mention is that even tho there were many new faces, they were all young players. You need the experience in the club too and that is only Kante, Azpi and Silva - Kante has been injured for very long time and on the top of that Jorginho one of the more senior players left too. Who is there to guide the players? Not to mention that Auba already kind of failed in the league and you bring him back for Werner who at least provided movement in the attack and space. Lampard in - Yeah, delusional fanbase if there was any hope something will change from them. Sacking Potter was maybe the right thing, but appointing Lampard... I mean you get high risk high reward in life and you could argue that as spirits were low, confidence demolished, etc. that someone with passion for the club would bring it back and normally I would agree, but not now. As Drogba said I dont recognize Chelsea anymore. It's not the same club at all, half of these players never even met Lampard and not to even mention his first run which didnt end that well. This was just catching straws to help players, but it's not it. The thing you should have mentioned is that Boehly completely changed the whole personal behind the scenes, like for example fyzio and players actually want it back. How are you meant to get together when people who are there to help you do it behind the scenes are changing too. What is happening is basically as if you just established the club, that's why it's failing. It's simple. Everybody is new and the couple of people who stayed there (which are only some players at this point) are not enough to mend it together.

Has everyone just forgotten about Bruno Saltor? Sure he wasn't the most stylish manager, but he would have at least given chelsea some stability until the end of the season, a bit like hiddink in 2016. Judging from the performance against Liverpool we defo would have won at least 2 of the 3 pl games lamps has lost, and we'd at least be top half, but of course boehly let him go for a pe teacher

It's mind boggling as a Liverpool fan that the Chelsea owner has spent half a billion dollars this season in signing new players. Over here at Anfield the owners are such cheapskates that we haven't signed a midfielder in three years! The club has been running on fumes and could collapse at any moment.

I'm a chelsea fan and I have to say that the appointment of Pochettino is sth I never though i would see but I have seen a lot of bat shit crazyiness this last 2 years. I do think that Poch is a good manager appointment given his experience, tactics and development of young players which chelsea have planty of, of course. I think that if the fans give him a little time and he shows his qualities he could be a great manager for chelsea F.C. And let's be honest here he might not be tuchel but he is a WAY better manager than both Potter and Lampard (no disrespect to them, but that's a fact). Guy took SPURS of all teams and he made them reach the fucking CL FINAL knocking excelent teams out of the competition to reach that point. As for his time at PSG I don't think anyone should ever be bothered with that. That club is a circus and no manager should be judged for his work at that club. They have had a lot of great managers (Ancelotti, Tuchel, Emery) and none of them has really succeeded there.

I’m a Chelsea fan, and it’s that we act so afraid in the box. Boehly is bad but it’s manageable. We sacked Tuchel and brought in a fraud. Zagreb was a mess but sacking the dude who won us the UCL it has to be done with hesitation. Klopp lost to Belgrade and still is a great manager. Poch will hopefully come in and steady the players. Mudryk has a lot of ability just needs to gain composure. Enzo is insane. But we need to sell, sell, sell. We need a smaller side with smart signings. We don’t need an oshimen. I don’t want to ruin another player. We need an old, slow striker (never should have sold Giroud smh) who has the experience to steady the ship. Broja is honestly closer to what we need. We could bring in another player. Sterling is a great player but not the forward. We play scared. We have no pride. Lukaku doesn’t have the inspiration. We play Kante as a CAM. Gallagher scoring our only goal of April being out of the box is very telling.

Crazy to sack Tuchel. Ridiculous what they did to Potter. He had an impossible task with so many players costing so much money. He had to involve most of them if for no other reason than to retain some market value on players - even if he didn’t want them or want to play them. I can’t imagine Potter not being instructed from above to play the new signings. If he’d left them on the bench and truly picked his preferred eleven, they’d just depreciate in value costing the club hundreds of millions. The signed players weren’t just squad players, they were expensive players expecting to start. Insane. He was probably strong armed into playing as many players as possible, leaving it almost impossible to pick a steady 11/17 players who could consistently carry out his instructions. Interference from the board in the football side of things is preposterous. Like when Boehly went to the changing room to give team talks - like, wtf are you doing?

As a chelsea fan, theres literally one reason why we're doing so poorly this season, one word: Goals. We have scored 30 goals in the prem this season, which is terrible once you realize we have played thirty two games. We're not averaging a goal a game. We're on pace, generously, for 36 goals, which is probably not attainable considering we still have to play every single team in the top four with our last remaining 6 games. Just for context, 36 goals in a season would be the worst tally for Chelsea since the 1923/1924 season. That's 99 years ago. Why aren't we scoring goals? To put it simply, the player with the most appearances this year is Kai Havertz, a guy who is completely unmotivated, motionless in the box, and finishes like a donkey. Our defense isn't terrible, but our attack needs serious sorting. I can't say we've had an offensive tactic of any sort since Sarri. Lampard told players to "go out and express themselves", and left it at that. Tuchel didn't really have one either, as our CL winning run was spurred on by a defensive masterclass. Potter sure as hill didn't have one other than slapping Havertz at ST and keeping Mudryk, Makuele, Mount and every other talented player on the bench in favor of Conor Gallagher (our second highest appearing player). Nagelsmann has offensive tactics, Enrique has offensive tactics, but no, they aren't Yes men. Will Poch figure something out? Time will tell, but I'm not putting a single cent on it.

It’s not the owners fault. Winning cures every thing and they’ve been in positions to win WAAAAY more than they have. The downfall started when the sanctions were placed, wasn’t easy for any of them. The managers and owners can’t put the ball in the net for them. The only questionable things the owners have done is sack Tuchel. Even then the results should have still been there under Potter but there was ZERO finishing. Anyone who slams them for buying players is hilarious because if they didn’t spend there would be more xenophobic comments on Americans owners in the sport not spending. The deadwood will be sold but of course you can’t expect it right away. If he were any nationality other than American it would be praised.

I was recently watching a video about Chelsea in which I learnt that when Roman bought that club in 2003 he invested money in his first season but Ranieri could not win any trophies in the 03-04 season. Then they brought Jose Mourinho to the club and he was fully backed by the owner and Jose won trophies with the team. But now if they want to fully back their next manager they may need to buy a few players who are recommended by the new manager. Now I don't know much about FFP rules and I am guessing that they may not be able to back their manager next season because of their recent spending spree. So the new manager may not be able to produce good results in the next season. So it is a pretty concerning situation. But I think the owners have to support the new manager irrespective of the results to bring some type of stability in the club.

Continue saying Chelsea don't have strikers. There's no chemistry and creativity in that team everybody is out of form and so many managers have failed to get the best out of the players. No one is clicking, and they've just spent too much money. A goal-scorer is needed at that football club, but what's Chelsea's best lineup right now. It looks all over the place the squad Todd Boehly has created and too many players are off form. Raheem Sterling is less than half the player he was at Manchester City and that speaks volumes about this current Chelsea side, Kai Havertz cannot put the ball in the back of the net, Christian Pulisic continues to struggle for fitness and form, Joao Felix wasn't what Chelsea needed, N'Golo Kante has hardly featured for Chelsea and isn't the player he was 4-5 years ago right now, and Kalidou Koulibaly is also out of form too. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a proven goal-scorer in European football and he's not played either he's another who shouldn't be at the football club right now because a week after he signed, Tuchel was sacked. Mykhalio Mudryk looked set to be an Arsenal player, he's another new signing that has fallen short of his transfer fee so far. Even Hakim Ziyech was 2 hours away from joining Paris-Saint Germain on transfer deadline day in January and Potter started him for a couple of games. The fact that a player who looked destined to join another club was actually starting some games, that tells you where Chelsea are at as a football club right now and it's none of the managers' fault, it's the owners. There's no real system or identity in the Chelsea team and in the last 4 5 years every summer we say Chelsea needs a striker we've been saying that for a while. The team needs to click. Don't act like Victor Osimhen alone will solve all of Chelsea's problems, first of all a proper structure is needed at the club and a change in recruitment policy as well including a big fire sale too. One player doesn't fix everything and you can't keep saying Chelsea don't have Erling Haaland, Harry Kane or they don't have a Didier Drogba. It's not only players like Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling failing to take responsibility to score goals regularly the team is just that bad and all the players need to step up you can't continue to say Chelsea don't have any strikers because don't forget that they've brought in the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner in recent years both of them failed at the club. Chelsea have had a striker problem for so many years and this season it's gotten worse the lack of goals have been a problem but no one should be surprised with the season they're having because they spent too much money on players all season which was unnecessary, have sacked 2 managers one which was their biggest mistake, just have too many problems fitting all these players in the team because they've signed so much. Their transfer policy needs to change or else they'll continue to have seasons like this one.

Sacking Tuchel, keeping Potter for too long when it obviously wasn't working, then appointing Lampard instead of going for a better replacement right away. The coaching mess is a big part. The other is some of the signings just haven't worked out, but that happens to every big club. But the one thing I've been saying for months, even if some people might consider it "too simplistic" (some things just are) is the utter insistence on NOT GETTING A DAMN STRIKER. Even Chelsea fans will say "nah mate, we need another 7 midfielders" or point to Manchester City last season. There we so many games where Chelsea had control or ended in a boring 0-0 draw. For all the money they spent, if they just had a dude who can put the ball in the net, the record would look very, very different

Have to say Todd hasn't had the greatest first season as owner, not even counting the onfield issues but telling Tuchel to play 443, backing Tuchel with transfers despite wanting to sack him anyway, saying KDB and Salah are from our academy, saying we would be in UCL every season automatically regardless of where we finish in the prem, installing himself as sporting director without any experience in European football before owning Chelsea, several reports that he contacted various staff from other clubs such as Real Madrid for roles at Chelsea, but those people said no as they thought Todd has excessive intervention or fear getting overruled. I could go on but this comment is already long. I just hope Christopher Vivell, Paul Winstanley and Lawrence Stewart make the best decision based off their knowledge and experience and appoint the best coach available for our needs, and Todd has a minimal say. My main guess as to why we’re struggling so much: we don’t have the personnel to play fast, and we don’t have the camaraderie to play controlled. Even when we won the champions league it wasn’t because we were better offensively. We got our goal and we sat back and defended. When you have the best defense in the world that’s a strategy to success, but when players move, get injured and age and you’re left with a potent but weakened defense (and no reliable attack) there’s not much anyone can do. Imo we need to drastically reduce the amount of players on the squad, find a reliable finisher or 2, and get some consistency on formations and players in our rotation.

Lets be clear.... the 1/2 billion spent is MOSTLY buying potential, NOT for now, NOT even for next year. The aim was/is to build a teadn for 3-7 years time. Obviously some not - Felix on loan and Fernandes in the windows - and sterling in the summer, but pretty much all the others are for a build process not for now. THIS is part of (if not all) of the problem though. The senior and established players know there not in the long term plans - and the new ones bought arnt ready in general yet. While the extent of collapse is bigger than any would have forseen - it doesnt change the focus of building that top team for 3 year time +.

The problem was not sacking Tuchel. We’ve been in horrible form for the calendar year of 2022. The problem when he was sacked, after spending money on “his players” and bringing in Potter without a preseason. Boehly also needs to clear out some players, a lot of them have been here for a while and keep letting us down. All our January signings have shown promise, even mudryk who was overpaid for still has a future. The summer was more hectic and there were a few misses due to no footballing people on the board. People talk about the money spent but don’t even factor we’ve overpaid and a lot of the signings bar 2/3 are based on potential. Basically all the struggles and spending that a team in transition over goes in like 3-4 seasons has been compounded into just one, that’s why we’ve been so bad. Which helps my argument about the needing of a clear out. I’m not worried for next season, we’ll be alright. Poch in and a proper summer will do
