finally a good technician, a technician that does everything how i was taught. this guy is good at what he does and has excellent troubleshooting skills, i am like him in that i go right to the problem. fantastic, and he doesn't make a fake electronic repair video that if copied can have really bad effects as i have seen on many videos. keep learning from this guy cause he knows what he is doing.

I picked up this same TV sitting by the curb last week, owner had pulled it from a home they were remodeling and didnt have a power cord to test it.... so they just threw it out.. I brought it home, fired it up and ran into this same exact problem. I wasnt able to test any components because my multimeter was dead, so i just Swapped out the controller on U33 and presto, Works perfectly! Thanks to your concise video i have a new TV, new to me atleast :D

Hey Norcal! Because of a previous video I was able to fix the power board on a vx32L that someone had tossed in a recycling dumpster. Replaced the capacitor R909 (63v 47uf) It now turns on with backlit with no input response like this video shows, where before the VIZIO logo would light up white and switch back to orange. Appreciate the videos, more people should have your mindset

I've seen many tv fix it videos and you are the BEST bar none. Having a problem with my Vizio 42 inch plasma vp422hdtv10a where it won't turn on. I did a reset a week earlier and worked for five days, but now only the amber light and clicks twice and shuts off with one click. PS board gives a two green blink led pause for 4 seconds and two blinks. Ordered a power supply board that comes tomorrow and hope it fixes it. Not all that confident though. Will check out more of your videos if I have a problem. Again really great videos!

Great video. I watched a few videos across KZbin to get a proper understanding, and I have to say, yours is the most comprehensive and hands on. It does seem these regulators are a common problem. I feel pretty comfortable going after this now. I'll be sure to post updates once I get through it.

THANK YOU! I just fixed my 42" Vizio with the exact same problem thanks to this video. The only thing I would recommend is to make sure your soldering gun is a good one. The solder on the board melts at a much higher temp than the solder we used to put back on. But this video was great and I really appreciate you saving my TV.

So I found this exact TV ready to go in the dumpster, and I checked it out and left it over night! When I got home I found your video and it was the same TV and exactly the same problem! So in the morning I grabbed it! I had my friend come over and take the readings and it was the same regulator that was bad! This was unbelievable to me! So I ordered the part and My friend will replace it for me! Hopefully it woks!

Nice repair! I'd add a little flux on those joints (even if you're using rosin core). It helps the solder flow in the joints and you'll get a more solid connection.

Hi there, I just got my parts both digi-key and mouser have the same ones. Yippee! They’re the correct parts! I have to say that norcal715 has the best fix for this tv on the internet. He is awesome :0) The fuse is LF 3A, stands for little fuse 3 amp. I bought mine from Mouser, because I had already bought from them before Both companies are excellent. I paid .94 cents and digi-key is 1.15. I bought 5 and 6 regs, which in price are 10 cents apart. So I'll be ready for next time. let you know :)

I had the exact same problem present itself. I checked the voltage on U33 and U7 and came up with almost the same voltages. I drew pictures of them and wrote down the numbers for each pin. I ordered two of the 1117 part from digi key... arrived in two days regular postage. The part cost was .77 cents, with postage... under five dollars. I photographed everything from start to finish. I replaced U33... plugged the unit in, hit the power button... checked the readings on the new part... back to where they should be. I got a blue screen within seconds of pushing the power button. One note... do not use acid/core solder... its messy. Pete K, below suggested using silver bearing solder or lead. I still ended up with good solid solder joints and it worked, but it was more difficult to control the solder. I would also suggest that you solder the output terminal first, as it is the largest terminal. As you mentioned in the video... you need to hold the piece down when you make the first solder joint... a pencil works great using the eraser end. Once that has cooled... solder the other three. Watch out for something that is really close to the input pin, (some refer to as #1 pin)... it is very close and easy to get solder on. I filed the tip of the solder gun to a point... like a pencil... not as sharp as a pencil... but much better than it was originally. I did this by removing the copper tip and putting it in a drill. This made it easy to make an even tip with a fine file. After that I used some emery cloth to make it smooth. Thank you norca715 for the great video.

The inputs should always be a standard voltage 12V, 9V, 5V, 3.3V. The Standard output voltages are 5V, 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V, 1.2V. So if you have a IC that only has lets say 3.8 or .9 volts out but has a solid 3.3 or 5 volts in you would suspect that one. Use the 1.2 + rule as in the video.

After unplugging and plugging back in without pressing power button I test two fueses and one shows 5v and the other 12v. I thought 12v should be near 0 until TV is turned on. Trying to get part numbers for the bigger regulator and the 12v & 5v fuses on the vizio 32" 07. Main board is identical to the the 37" vizio on your video above. Is there a way to talk to you? On the larger reg with 3 legs, the left 12v, center 0, right 5v do you have a part number for that one. Theres one with 3 legs and has the middle leg off. It may be a different reg, but It looks the same, there is a contact spot for solder there, but the leg looks short and cut off. I watched both vidios.

I have the same TV VX37L HDTV10A with the same problem . Changed the main board before I saw your video and it did not change anything. After watching your video and checking the voltage, the F2 fuse reads 12V not 5V and the F1 fuse reads 24V not 10V. So I changed out the power board thinking there is a problem with the output. Still no change. Also at the power board, taking a voltage reading where the LVDS cable connects I get a reading of 24V. Backlights work fine just black screen. Any ideas??

My question is that if the second fuse only reads 10.8v, should I be focusing on the power supply? Everything else corresponds with your video, as the regulators do regulate the power down consistently, but that second fuse never gets to 12v when its on. it reads zero when plugged in and set off. reading your previous responses i think it it could be power supply, and also to mention the tv backlight doesnt turn on. thanks in advance

The regulator you replaced has already been replaced and showing the right voltage, but there"s another regulator the next row down at the far right of the board that is showing the same low reading that yours did. 5 volts input, only 2 volts output and 1.2 at the adjustment. Would that cause the same problem as the u33 regulator?

Hello Deborah, I need to replace the same reg he did in the video and the little tiny 3A fuse also, but I don't know what info to input to get the right fuse. I searched the numbers you have for the fuse at digikey and it came up as a 3A 125V fuse. What confuses me is that when he tests it, it shows 12V not 125V, am I missing something?? I'm really pretty new at this, so I figured I'd go with the "ask if you don't know" policy, lol. I guess if it only reads 12V testing why does it call for 125V?

The TV powers on with the power button or the remote, but now the backlight doesn't light. In the sunlight I see a myriad of lines on the LCD. Put the original board back in, I don't, just the exact same problem you had. Hey Nocal, I believe my main board has gone bad. I am trying to test the same things you have shown, but I don't have power. The power button doesn't power the main board. I have 5VSB to the main board as tested on the first fuse. Most of my regulators still show the 5V to 3.2v drop but several have different voltages or nothing at all. I assume that is because I don't have power. What am I to look for when the power switch doesn't power the mainboard? Vizio vf550m.

Mine are as follows: U8 Pin 1 - 4.6 Pin 2 - 3.0 Pin 3 - 1.8 U33 Pin 1 - 4.6 Pin 2 - 2.8 Pin 3 - 1.6 U7 Pin 1 - 2.8 Pin 2 - 1.0 Pin 3 - 0.0 So is it the U33 that is bad? Then I tried to get the regulator 1117 off the board and the solder just wont stick, just balls up and rolls all around. It's a rosin mix with 97% Tin and 3% copper. Couldnt get enough on there to get it molten and slide off. I have some dark brown flux that looks like grease, but it may be the acid kind. I have a 60w fixed temp iron. Any suggestions? I don't want to give up just yet. Thank you so much for your info.

I have a Vizio m502bi power board. my 5v is 5.1v, my 12v is 11.63v, and my 24v is measuring 19.8v, pwr_on is 3.6v, on/off is 1.1v and does not change when pressing on button. popped fuse out. put it back in and on the main board magic smoke came from U403. I know the main board is bad now. I'm not sure about the power board. the voltage is off, causing damage to the main board?

Hi, yes you can safely remove the back very easily most likely you can use a phillips screwdriver to remove it. There should be screws all around the back of the TV

I have the exact same TV and problem, but different root cause apparently. The Vregs have the correct outputs of all that you show. However, you didnt show U9 output. Mine is 1.5V output with 1.3V at the adjustment pin - is it OK? if so, what do you suggest i do next? Thanks!!

Working on the same TV and have 5v at the main board fuse but on the 12v side when I power on I get a short jump in voltage then it drops to zero. Logo is yellow, then white on power up and will turn off again to yellow. I'll be looking at the power supply next I assume..

Thanks so much for the video. I was really close to tossing my TV out and buying another $200 set. I only use this TV for my extended computer screen. I was able to get the TV to power on after unplugging it a couple 100 times. After I found this video I decided to give it a try. The parts cost me $26.03 from shopjimmy.com. I replaced 4 of the 5 pieces that came with the set, I wasn't going to attempt the large audio one that came with the repair kit. You do make it look easy to pop them off, and by the time I got to my 4th one it did get easier. Thanks for the video!!!

I would say that based on the video and your notes, most likely a main board failure, try and unplug the LVDS cable and see if you can shut the set down with the power button. could be a tcon loading down the main board but I doubt it.

Oh I meant the 32" model, only 2, 3a fuses. I'm mixed up on the extra empty plug socket on the power board, they are exactly the same. Any advice?
