Vlad Great work, Really enjoy your channel. Which do you prefer out of TLB Mallorca and Carmina? how do they differ? thanks man
@v_r_4 жыл бұрын
I prefer TLB’s Artista line over Carmina, although I like both brands. The main difference is in the details like the slim beveled waist, the leather heel stiffener, more stitches per inch, the close cut heels that accentuate the back of the shoes. Hope that helps.

Nice vid, Vlad. Agreed on a bunch of these! it's crazy how good we have it these days vs even 5 years ago for offerings. TLB's Artista is REALLY hard to beat at this price range (or even fr a bit more). I have the 107 already, and 112 is on it's way now. They pretty much son the rest of my collection if you get up close on the details (until you get to the the Meccariello's). What they do for sub $400 is outstanding. You should cop a pair in the future for sure. I was looking at JF's Magnolia at one point, but that triple stitch killed it for me too. CS and Cobbler Union are of course brands I own and really like. Both great options. Unfortunately, Loake is dead to me if they don't come back to the US this year. They really left us high and dry, but I do love the few 1880's I have.

Amos my brother, what’s good? As shoe enthusiasts, it’s really a great time to be alive right now LOL. I’ll be getting a pair from TLB soon, I’ll talk about it on here once I get it. AM is on the list as well but further down the line.

Loake used to ship to the US years ago, but then British pound dropped value and they tried to “protect” their US retailers by stop EU retailers from shipping their shoes to the US.

What's good Vladimir? Just find your videos. I think it is awesome to finally get someone form my area(northeast).blending urban and the corporate world.1 question: what do you think of a whole cut instead of a cap toe? Which should be the 1st to purchase?
@v_r_4 жыл бұрын
Hey Tolui! I never heard someone describing my channel as such but I like it LOL. As far as those style of shoes, that one is strictly preferential. Personally I’d always pick a cap toe for a couple reasons. One, they look better to my eyes and second, whole cuts usually crease more across the vamp since it’s just one piece of leather. But there’s no wrong answer.

This is good content here! What do you think of a soft square shoe as a way to get away from the more traditional almond shape captoes? Thank you

Thanks so very for such entertaining and thoughtful reviews. It would appear that picking the right shoe last is more important than all other factors. Do you agree?
@v_r_4 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin, my apologies for the late reply. The last is a very important factor and when you're talking about similar style shoes such as Black Cap Toe Oxfords, the last is probably the main differentiator.

Vladimir, thank you for your wonderful content. I've been following your channel for quite some time and love it. I am considering ordering my first pair of bespoke shoes, mostly due to fit and foot issues with RTW shoes. What design would you suggest as a first pair: a black captoe Oxford--or something in brown or burgundy? I work in the U.S., in a law firm-type dress environment where my dress code is, usually, trousers and a dress shirt and, occasionally, a suit. Thank you! Hope you're staying safe and healthy.
@v_r_4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words. It sounds like your dress code is a little more relaxed, so I’d go with a Dark Brown Punched Captoe Oxford. Still dressy but not as formal as Black Captoe Oxford. Which brand are you ordering from?
@soulandwit50294 жыл бұрын
@@v_r_ Thank you so much for your reply and advice! I hadn’t even considered a brown punched capote oxford-dual personality which can be, as you say, dressy when you need it to be, casual when you need it to be. I’m currently considering a maker out of China, YIM. Ideally, I would go with an established house-for instance, G&G, Cleverley, Dominic Casey, Fukuda, or Daniel Wegan-but their prices are much higher than what I can afford. If you’re interested, I can, from time to time, keep you updated on my shoes’ progress over the next year.

Vass last.....try saying that early in the morning- Is a classic, round toe, black oxford shoe the best choice for formal business meetings and/or special business events, such as award dinners etc? Is there any difference in the formality of a say, Carmina Forest black, cap toe oxford and their Rain last?

As you can probably tell, I use Spier & Mackay a lot, 90% of my suits and all my shirts are from them. I truly feel like they’re the best in term of making quality product at a great value. The only thing is it's hard to buy suits online without knowing if they'll fit but they have free shipping so you can gauge your size. Other places that I've used for suits in the past is Suitsupply and Kent Wang (custom). As far as shoes, there are too many to name and preferences will play a part there but Carmina is a great place to start. For ties, I love Shibumi, E.G. What do you recommend to protect the shoes uppers from water stains.
@cyvycymusic10964 жыл бұрын
I would apply a layer of wax on top for some protection, but if that isn't enough, consider using Saphir's Invulner spray.
@v_r_4 жыл бұрын
What’s up, Alejandro? It’s always good to give your shoes a nice shine with cream and wax prior to wearing them out for the first time. That provides another level of protection although they won’t make your shoes waterproof by any stretch. I wear suede if rain is in the forecast and I’ll probably be outside.

I have the Carlos Santos on 387 Last and the cap toe is quite long as well. It looks fantastic but you have to make sure to set the crease on the vamp before start wearing them. That or your mirror shine will crack very easy. If you don't mirror shine, the cap toe on those shoes are fine. I wouldn't buy those again only because of that piece of leather on the back. As a shoe shine enthusiast, I would love to be able to mirror shine the counter area and it will not look right on those shoes.

nice list but the Vass shoes are 441 euros plus 40 euros shipping total of 481 euros or $533 USD, just nitpicking that they are technically over $500 ha ha

I own multiple Carlos Santos Shoes - including the 401 last. That last is not that elongated as the picture suggest. It has a nice hugging arch. You can find them cheaper than AFPOS from thenobleshoes for example (about 280usd and free shipping) but on a different last. At 280 usd that's only about 60 usd more than meermin (you pay shipping for meermin) which quality control is more than questionable ! Löf & Tung is also very good quality and made in Spain ! I own only boots from them I personally own the Cobbler Union Black Captoe Oxford. I can only say that the city last is crazy beautiful with a beveled, fiddleback and narrow waist ! That's the only brand that offers that at this price point. It is by far the most elegant pair of shoes that I have ! I think Carmina just started to be a bit too expensive in the US. Waiting for a little incentive is not a bad idea. I own a few from them and they are well made shoes. But I can't explain the price difference between Carmina, Löf and Tung or Cobbler Union. TLB Artista looks like a cheaper and same quality alternative ! Very well done Mr. Riché ! Close to 200 usd for smaller budget is Meermin, Skolyx, Yanko, Herring, for example. All Goodyear welted !

Disappointing that Loake doesn't ship to US. I skipped Carmina because their US price is $100 more than the EU price. Not a fan of those business practices. They say there's a lot of international fees, but nobody else seems to have this practice. In other news, my TLB Mallorca Artistas are fantastic. Can recommend.

I know exactly what you mean. I remember when Skoaktiebolaget was selling Carmina shoes for around $325 a few years ago then out of nowhere, the prices went up to $450. The TLB Artista line looks really nice. I’m looking forward to trying them soon.

@@v_r_ I picked them up because of your recommendation. LOL. I'm happy to recommend them back to you. I don't have a lot of experience with shoes in this range, but they appear to be a softer leather than my Cobbler Union and the fiddleback waist is much tighter (and CU already has a tight waist).

Hey are you playing to the trendy set of people with these shoes to up your subscriber base or has Allen Edmond’s new lower quality standard dropped them off of your list.
@v_r_4 жыл бұрын
What’s up, Rod? I only make videos to share what I know as that type of information would’ve been helpful to me when I was starting out. Frankly, I don’t make content to get subscribers, I just get on here and do me. No more, no less. Also, I’m not sure if you know but 90% or more of the people that watch my videos have never heard of any of these brands, hence why I feel it’s necessary to shed some light on them. If I wanted to appeal to a trendy set of people, I would mention Allen Edmonds, as it’s one of the brands that most Americans are familiar with and that’s the majority of my audience. The Park Avenue would probably be on my list if it were a Top 15. They just don’t appeal to me aesthetically although the quality is very good, last I checked at least.

There is also a Dutch shoebrand that ships high quality shoes for far under $500,-, the brand is called Floris van Bommel. These shoes are made in the Dutch town Moergestel and are made by man and machine. Floris van Bommel is the brand of quality shoes for when you want to step in to dress shoes and add a funny twist by using derbies with lots of different fashionable patterns. But they also make just a simple black cap toe Oxford with a yellow colored leather outsole. The majority of the shoes of van Bommel are Blake stitched. This might be a brand to look at for when you don't have that kind of budget to buy an $500,- shoe.

Hey Stan, thanks for the insight. I never heard of that brand and just checked them on IG. They’re definitely more on the casual side of things. I do like the look of their sneakers though.

Drop the hat. Your channel came up on my feed and I was going to immediately disregard when I saw the hat on your head. That was MY first impression. Not good. I decided to view your channel anyway because I have become very interested in black cap toe Oxford shoes. I will subscribe and like the videos I have seen already but PLEASE always present yourself in sartorial elegance in order to be taken seriously and always assume a potential subscriber may only be looking at a thumbnail before he writes you off. Thank you for your content.
@v_r_4 жыл бұрын
I hear you, Robert and I'm glad that you were able to look past the hat. But at the same token, I do this for kids that would click on it just because the hat is something that they wear themselves. Plus I never thought that a 100% cashmere hat is in bad taste. I don't use it as a prop for the thumbnail, I really do wear them. So if anyone doesn't click because I'm wearing a beanie, so be it, I don't really care.

Vladimir Riché I’ve been watching more of your content and I want to thank you for pointing out quality menswear at affordable prices. Most men (having children and other financial obligations) can typically not afford higher priced ready to wear, much less bespoke items, and your channel really hits that sweet spot of value with quality. I’m impressed. Plus your content really hits on what is actually quality and you’re always mentioning how to at least START a line of quality menswear and work your way up. You did that with your personal shoe collection video, which was excellent. Again, thank you. Let’s forget the beanie cap. It was obviously a misunderstanding.
