Ultimately where the Hughes Brothers and the studio went wrong was not casting Pac as Caine. They literally had Tupac Shakur in their grasp and didn’t consider him for the lead. I mean all the elements were there; his relationship/chemistry with Jada, his screen presence, and the fact he was a certified artist. All do respect to Tyrin Turner, but he couldn’t fuck with Pac acting wise. I mean you give him a perm and a banana he could make an entertaining scene, but other than that, he wasn’t on that level. With the press and critical response this movie received, you could argue that Tupac could have gotten an Oscar nomination for his performance. More than likely not a win, and if not an Oscar nomination, perhaps other reputable awards nominations ( Critics Choice, SAG, etc).
