-----------
In this clip, Morris Day spoke about Prince and Michael Jackson's feud, which he revealed Prince stopped after approaching MJ. Morris added that when comparing the two, he believes Prince is the "complete package," explaining that Prince can play dozens of instruments, arrange music, entertain, and produce songs. To hear more, including how he never had Prince's number after they left Minneapolis, hit the above clip.

I’m seeing a lot of comments about Prince doing all of his own Production and that Michael did not. Here’s the reality, Michael wrote and Produced a large portion of his music (including 10/13 Number One singles). The key is that Michael believed in the quote, “if you want to go fast...go alone, but if you want to go far...go together.” Prince was focused on making HIS best music, yet Michael was focused on making THE best music. Both phenomenal artists, but different philosophies on the creation of their art.

Wisdom Above Quincy, Teddy Riley, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Baby Face, LA Reid, Rodney Jerkins, Dallas Austin, Bob Anka, Lenny Kravitz...I can keep going. If you actually study his catalog you’ll see that Quincy was just a fraction of it. The best songs that Quincy worked on were the ones that Michael wrote and produced at his home studio. Not taking away from Quincy, but also not over crediting him.

I'll never understand why MJ fans and Prince fans can't just praise both these legends for what they achieved throughout their careers. Instead of comparing and arguing about who's better. We will never come to a definitive answer as a whole. So, let's just leave it as both were great and left us with music we can enjoy, our kids can enjoy, their kids can enjoy and on and on for generations to come.

Michael never had an issue with Prince. When they both were at the James Brown show it was Michael who told James to bring Prince up on the stage. Quincy talks about how Prince tried to outdo Michael on stage because he was real competitive with Michael. Every interview where Michael is asked about Prince he sings his praises and say how talented he is. Michael wanted Prince to be on the We Are the World record and his record Bad. Prince stood Michael up for the We Are the World record and he didn't want to make the record Bad with him.

I respectfully disagree. Both the Off the Wall and Thriller albums were produced by Quincy Jones. Many don't remember it or weren't even born at the time, but during the late 70's when Michael embarked on his solo career, he struggled to get hit songs and many of his solo albums didn't sell. It wasn't until Q came into the picture that Michael's career began to take off. Unlike Prince MJ was very dependent, like Morris says.

Lastly Prince was one of the greatest performers of all time, but have you ever seen anyone faint at a Prince show from sheer sensory overload? I understand what Morris Day was saying about MJ and even he said he wasn't taking anything away from him but where I disagreed with Morris who I like is that Michael Jackson was a straight up entertainer when he wrote most of his hit songs which he also co-produced with the likes of Quincy Jones and Teddy Riley. MJ had a great ear for music and didn't mind working with producers to lay down the sounds he visualized with his lyrics, voice and melodies. Unfortunately because of MJ's prowess as a performer his songwriting ability was overlooked as for Prince the man was a musical genius who could do it all plus I have said and believe Prince was the greatest all around musician of all time and this is coming from a die-hard Michael Jackson fan. Playing multiple instruments was Prince's speciality and MJ's was entertaining with his singing, dancing, songwriting and bringing his imagination to life through his groundbreaking and trendsetting music videos along with his live performances. The truth of the matter is they had their own styles and respected each others talent. Rest in peace to these two great musical titans that no one can touch nor ever come close to.

Ppl act like Prince and Mike had beef like Jay and Nas. They had a deep respect for each other. As far as the instruments, Mike could play hella instruments too. The only reason he didn’t do it as much as Prince was cause he couldn’t do all that and dance his moves all at the same time. Mike wrote most of his 13 number one hits. Many artists (including Prince) don’t have 13 number one hits. That’s no call to take shots at Prince and vice versa. Don’t compare them. Two kings.

From then on MJ & Prince were either on my radio, turn table, walkman, CD Player & IPods. So these two icons were not only part of my life, their music were the soundtrack of my life. I was very lucky to grew up listening to MJ & Prince. Kids today don't have artists like that anymore. I experienced it differently, 1999 was a huge album, then Thriller was released, but after the release of Purple Rain with a movie, Prince was on top and he released every year a new album and even topped Purple Rain with Sign of the times, that was a huge success especially in Europe, Prince did focus on Europe these days. And I do not talk about how many copies were sold, that's what mj fans always do. It's about value! After release of Purple Rain a lot of people bought Prince's first 5 albums, that is never mentioned! In Europe thes albums were not known these days. As to sound quality, Thriller is the best thanks to Bruce Sweien, but Prince even mixed his first albums by himself, how unique is that!

You know what's interesting about that analogy about Michael and Prince's input individually. I see it like this. Michael's career started out very early. While Prince was honing his skills as a musician,by 7 Michael was on the road. by 10 he had a deal with a prestigious label with one of the most powerful black men at the time Berry Gordy. The fact that Michael worked with producers wasn't because he couldn't produce music himself. Michael was able to collaborate. Prince didn't welcome that. I wish he did. But, he didn't. So the difference was, Michael made great choices when it came to choosing producers. He liked staying current, but more gritty. Prince enjoyed Producing himself. Oh by the way Vlad that was chick his body guard at the time not Hulk Hogan. The reverence I have for Michael and Prince is unwavering. They changed the world in their own indelible way. The gift was profound from the almighty whatever the almighty means for someone. These two gentlemen had It.. They were just chosen to implement greatness. They suffered for it. In the end they remain Legends Forever.
