Wonderful interview. Thoughtful questions and passionate answers. I think Vlatko Vedral is really on to something here. Anton Zeilinger too has said that strange quantum phenomena are more comprehensible when viewed as very small systems that can only carry a small amount of information. Like small pieces of paper can only have a list of a few items. But I think in the mesoscopic world, the world of solid state physics and complex chemistry, we will never reach an endpoint, because you can always add more complexity to any given system. Similiar to Gödels theorems any conceptual framework about reality as a whole, will have holes and paradoxes that can only be explained by a even bigger conceptual model. An infinite regress, that will keep scientists in business forever.

Not only do I find this fascinating, I find it truly well founded. I've written about this very hypothesis back in 1990 in my post-graduate thesis. I focused on the social aspect of application of this theory. Now I've uploaded the old draft for my book to the Amazon Kindle Store. For those interested, the relevant portion is in Chapter 3 of the ebook entitle Integral Protection of Intellectual Property.

In simple words, in order to understand one thing or concept, you need to have a base. If you want to measure the length of something, you need a fixed scale, like centimetres. Everything is dependent on something else or some base. Science has a set of bases or rules, which actually are not fixed. Like the speed of light, or the size of an electron, or the age of the universe. So everything we know as true is based upon some other information. And the basic information is not fixed. So everything is variable and we are lost in an infinite vacuum and we are confused of how to measure it and what yo measure it with. If you still don't understand, it's fine. The universe still exists and we are still confused.

Recently I read a book by a pseudonimous author "Paralternativecelsus", which has a similar hypothesis, but it goes even further applying the concept of entropy (physical information) to memetics and biological systems. It is really an interesting viewpoint.

Whether or not true randomness really exists is a very interesting question. Simply because we observe what appears to be randomness (as in we can't predict the system's behavior), we cannot conclude that the underlying reality is non-deterministic. We can only say "it looks random to us". At least that's my attempt at thinking about it; I only have a very shallow knowledge of QM.

Everything is information at all levels...The micro to the macro! We use our 5 senses to gather the information within our spectrum, that with our intelligence allows us to navigate and ultimately manipulate our environment. (Light, Sound, Touch(physical) , Taste and Smell(chemical)). Thereafter we need tools to gather information beyond our limited spectrum. ORDER does not exist without disorder the Law of Polarity. INFINITY is the only explanation without flaw.

I think there is good reason to think that the laws of physics could be altered dramatically, but I think it is impossible for a creature (like us) to do it as we would need to travel faster then the speed of light and control a much larger part of the universe then our visible universe. From outside of our visible universe we could (theoretically) gather enough energy to completely alter our universe, or infuse it with more energy than it has, that could change the laws in some way, maybe...

QM combines infinite regression and progression in superposition. Because the interference patterning of the combined universal event has macro-micro limits of the Quantum Information vanishing point. (The turtles are suspended in space?) If "belief" etc is tested and is converted to knowledge it's the same as theory.

The question : If everything is information , where is that information coming from ?.... there must be a god who created it ... brings to mind the simulation theory. We are all aware that fantastically complex programs , video , sound , etc , start with the most basic information , 0 and 1. Complexity is simple and simplicity is complex. Ultimately , 0 and 1 can be considered the two sides of a coin , zero means nothing without a one and one means nothing without a zero. In the same way existence and nonexistence make no sense one without the other. But at the same time they are the only two sides of the coin, to be or not to be... The coin is , as I believe quantum physics tries to explain , a super position of the two states , existence and nonexistence at the same time.

Shannon was able to find a useful way to compress information; using his view of information (which rather deals with data than with information) is misleading. The view, as presented here in the youtube, is a narrow one and becomes nonsense when generalized.

the idea of information imply's an informer and informed. a source of the stuff which is information and for the information to be , it needs a receiver which implicates the informer had to make a system/mechanism of reception....ego.reality ls there has to be a place to observe information as it is. not second hand from the senses or the mind , no where else in this information field of what is can we see a questioning of what is. making what is a human being the real microscope to reality.

How so?
@SecondSight10 жыл бұрын
TacticalSpectre damn, I had forgotten about this video / comment. Well, rewatching the video now, vlatko's whole perspective just doesn't jive with my view at all. I mean who knows, fundamentally, but yeah. A couple points: "information" to my way of thinking, is not a real thing. In the physical world it manifests as constraints, so what came before will constrain what can come in the future. Information as a way for creating objects could just be constraints as the physical laws, enabling an evolution towards a more stable system over time, that then when the energy source is dry, will "loosen up" and change into other objects. And yes, it can and even must be deterministic. Information is then really just all the shapes and motions physical objects can move / change. There's nothing to do with probability in there. Probability arises on larger scales involving billions of objects, say. But that is fundamentally different from say, Claude Shannon. Communicating a message in a medium between endpoints is about being sure that your message arrives safely in a noisy physical system, and so you need ways to verify the message. Humans and other organisms with a brain have created a new dimension of information, but this subjective information is different from the constraints in nature, I think. But this is what Claude Shannon was primarily talking about, transmitting a message of some kind reliably through a physical medium. I think my disagreement with Vlatko has to do with this notion of probability more than anything else. I haven't read his book, and it may just be a lack of creativity on my part I admit, but this doesn't work for me at all ;d

Seeing everything as "information" is a fad. None of these guys has a clue what a meaningful rigorous definition of the word might be. "Information" is something in your head. Until it gets there it is something else - not "information". You could call it "potential information" if you want to be nauseatingly cute. But, what is it when it gets into your head? What does it mean to know? The scientists insist it is all physical. Okay, what are the physics of knowledge? And don't start by talking about electrochemical events (as if you were going to be rigorous) and end up back with some vague concept of everyday language (like "information" or "knowledge") - which is what always happens in these half ass explanations, and is the intellectual equivalent of saying "you know" over & over. If you see the universe as information, what you probably have is a fat head.
@omniluiz7 жыл бұрын
What are the physics of knowledge if not a bunch of electrochemical events? Read about how our brain process information, you're gonna see that we are just a biological computer. Read about how DNAs are just programs of life. We are information in the most fundamental meaning of the word.Not just we, but everything that exists and also don't exist. Things in its essence are modeled, described and treated as information.
