Thank you for your lovely video. It was refreshing to listen to you in English, sometimes I miss the sights because I’m reading the subtitles, but I am trying to learn Japanese so it would be nice to listen to you in Japanese - so whatever way you feel like making the videos is wonderful. I also loved the sights you showed us today, and the street shops (the elderly are so cute too). I can’t wait to visit Japan. Hope you have a nice week =) also hydrangea color is because different pH of soil (below 6=blue, above 7= pink or red)

Thank you for another great video Sho-san. I feel like the mix between talking and just subtitles worked really well in this video. At one hand you are a great narrator (and it also makes it more personal when you speak) but the serenity due to the subtitles when you are mending your garden or cooking a meal also adds a lot (meal looked great by the way!) And no, The Netherlands (where I'm from) doesn't look anything like Nagasaki. Perhaps that's why I love slopes so much whenever I travel abroad. Loved the temple and the stone bridges! Have a great day 🙂

@@life_in_nagasaki Hello there Sho-san 🙂 Yes, that's very much true. Only the southern tip of the most southern province of "Limburg" has something that sort of reveals a mountain. Going there is like travelling abroad for me as the landscape is so different. It's also home to the city of "Maastricht" (try to pronounce that😂). Very much worth a visit if you ever visit my country! Speaking of which if you ever choose to visit The Netherlands it would be my utmost pleasure to show you around. And show you other places than Amsterdam which is very much a tourist trap (perhaps like 京都?). Cities like Utrecht (Where I live), Leiden (home to the one university where you can study Japanese) and Delft are really nice. おやすみなさい !

This might be a nice historic story concerning the city of Leiden for you: From 30 october 1573 till the 3th of october 15474, during our 80 year war with Spain, the city of Leiden was besieged by the Spanish under command of the Duke of Alfa. The city, helped by their city walls, held out. Leading up to the 3th of october the Watergeusen (The Waterbeggars), a liberation army started breaking the levees to flood the lowlands and allow their ships to be able to move towards Leiden. The Spanish, seeing the liberation army advance, fled their positions and Leiden was liberated. Malnourished and near death the population of Leiden stumbled upon the Spanish food supplies and found carrots and parsnips in kettles in the former Spanish war camps. This would become the Dutch dish of “Hutspot” (although we use potatoes instead of parsnips now - mash boiled potatoes, carrots and onions together). They fed on this and herring and till this day, on the 3th of october they celebrate the “Leidens Ontzet” (The lifting of the siege of Leiden) by eating Hutspot and herring. To reward their stalwart defense against the Spanish, the city of Leiden was granted the first university in The Netherlands (where you can study Japanese and Mandarin for instance). And oh yes, the Duke of Alfa, who was the scourge of The Netherlands, that I mentioned: He also gave the name to a quite tasty Dutch beer: Alfa Edel Pils. Perhaps you can impress your friends at the Leiden Bookstore with these trivia facts 🙂

Yes, we have many buildings on hills and slopes. Caracas is in a valley so only a small part of it is on flat land. For a moment I thought I was looking at an image of Caracas from the highway. Here there are beautiful buildings, others are not. In the poor areas the buildings are chaotic and motley. It is a city of great contrasts. Greetings from Venezuela. Hello, and thank you for this informative video. So glad you enjoyed your lunch 🙂. Living in a place like Nagasaki definitely keeps you fit! -- all these steps and slopes, stepping and climbing... ;-) I loved the temple and the hydrangeans, too, and was fascinated by all the various coffees on offer at the coffee shop. In answer to your questions, yes, it's great to have narrated videos. I don't know Japanese, unfortunately, so I'd selfishly prefer for you to narrate them in English but it's obviously up to you, whatever you feel comfortable with. As for the scenery -- in the mountainous regions in south of my native country, Poland, we also have architecture like this. We also have trams, very similar to yours. -- Take care, and I hope your crops grow well. Till next time!

Hello. Nice video. Talking is good no matter which language. Garden is coming along nicely. Pad Thai is my favourite Thai food too. I make it often. You must be fit walking those distances. Yes our capital city Wellington is very hilly! One part there reminds me of Trieste in Italy when you drive on the road ..one side hills and otherside sea. Sometimes you see houses that are build on the cliff and virtoually hanging..so scary. What a beautiful temple! And the sea of hydranges!Best meals are the ones you cook. Soup is always satisfying..I was surprised to read that Miso is actualy not Japanese but was brought by Chinese to Japan some centuries ago. Cheers

I think you should do a mixture of talking and non talking videos. I like to hear you speak when you’re out and about in the city, but when you’re at home, the subtitles are fine. Your English is very good but I think you should speak in whatever language you’re most comfortable in speaking. The soup you made looked delicious. And I love potato croquettes. I sometimes make them when I have leftover mashed potatoes.

I like both styles of your videos, so feel free to mix them up. Sometimes it's nice to hear your voice, and sometimes it's nice to listen to the sounds of the city. And I am happy to see that even a soup that isn't technically a miso soup has miso in it! Does Kumamoto dango soup always have potato dumplings, or are there other dumplings used sometimes? It looks delicious!

Hi, Maria! Thank you for your kind comment! Yes, we have many other soups that aren't called miso soup but do contain miso 😆. I'm not very familiar with it, but I don't think traditional dango soup usually contains potatoes. I believe that dumplings made from just flour are more common. However, the recipe I saw included potatoes, and since I had a lot of potatoes at the time, I thought it was a good opportunity to make dango soup with them☺️ Anyway, It was delicious!

Bom dia.

Great video as usual, mate! My apologies for not tuning into your livestream earlier this week - I was out of the house at the time. It's good to see that your edamame and spinach plants are growing quite nicely. I can't wait to see you use them in your cooking once they're ready. Yeah, I think it would be a good idea to speak while doing these vlogs. Sometimes, if you want to really express how you feel about something, it's better to do it immediately instead of trying to remember your feelings while editing the video. Growing up in Singapore, I've been on road trips to Malaysia, and you'll also find plenty of houses on the hills in the suburbs of the major cities. About the 18-Shinwa bank on the main road, if you go down that street and past the hotel there, you'll find a great little bakery serving European-style bread rolls. The catch is that it's only open from Friday to Monday, from 6:30 am to 11 am (or until they run out of bread).

Hi Zach! Thank you for watching and leaving a comment ☺️ Home gardening is going quite well so far, and I'm really excited for the harvest🌱 As for the narrating, I'll try out several video types and see how they work :) Since moving to Nagasaki, I've become a big fan of the sloping areas, so I want to compare several around the world. I know that bakery! Have you been there? :) It's quite popular in Nagasaki city, though I rarely go since I can't wake up so early 😆 (Of course, I can go there around 9-10, but there might only be a few breads left 🤣).

@@life_in_nagasaki What I love about Nagasaki is that wherever I go, the hills will remind me of different places. Either that, or they’ll have their own unique charms. During my first two years there, I worked at a small school at the top of a mountain somewhere south of Doinokubi, and to catch the bus home, I would walk down to the main road. The view of the mountains in the distance really was something special. Yes, I’ve been to that bakery myself. After my contract finished, I stayed in Nagasaki for a little while so that I could help my successor settle in. I obviously had to move out of my apartment, so I stayed at a hostel. One of the guests told me to try out the bakery’s white chocolate and macadamia nut roll, and the way he said it in a serious manner convinced me to try it out. It really was as good as he said it would be. For those who are reading my comments and are wondering what the big deal is, here is the name of the place: “bread A espresso”. It’s located in Gotomachi, just south of Nagasaki Station.
