It was news to me and happily I've found out in the comments that many folks have been taking it regularly. I finally feel like a part of the cool club. Haha

I took it about three or four times a years for 20 years when I lived in PP. Almex 400 is a generic name for Albendazole, which fights and kills ringworms and other gastrointestinal parasites after they develop in the system. Ideally, they are administered before they develop. The locals do this as a preventative measure. Although I obviously never drank tap water, I did use it to brush my teeth. Also, if you are going to eat street food at a vending stale, or even at an elite, then you can not control the hygienic practices of the cooking staff as it relates to the boiling or using of water. (Were your vegetables washed with bottled water, or water taken directly from the tap??).Also melted ice taken from coolers could from time-to-time have dodgy consequences. I thought this was common knowledge for travellers to tropical areas like Cambodia, but apparently, I was wrong. ...

Everything you mentioned are things that I have been concerned over. I'm glad to know that I know about it now and I'll use it as a preventative measure going forward. It tasted fine and it didn't Bother my system. All good news to me.

Hey Sean, off topic but I wanted to tell you that I survived (just barely) my 35 hours of traveling from Charlotte NC to Bangkok Thailand. The Boston to Hong Kong flight almost finished me. Lol I arrived here in Bangkok yesterday morning. After much rest I'm feeling better. I'll talk with a visa service agent later today regarding the non immigrant type O retirement visa. If it's looking like a costly nightmare I'll see you in Siem Reap in a few months. I don't want to play the border run game so it's a long term visa in either Thailand or Cambodia for this geezer who doesn't want to have to wander if I don't want or have to. Thank you for being both positive and informational in your vids. Best regards, KC.

Never off topic with good news. On my trip it was the flight from Montreal to Tokyo that almost did me in. Glad to hear that you are in Bangkok safe and sound and have rested. It took me two days to feel somewhat normal. Good luck with the visa and I hope to see you in Siem Reap in a few months.

yes, I know albendazole - not familiar with that particular brand. I've heard every 6 months. I have taken it before, but haven't for a few years.

Because of how much local food I eat, I think it's a good idea to make it a regular part of my schedule. Haha I'm glad that you knew about it. I'm just thankful that I know about it now.

I’ve heard about this medication for parasites, from people in SR. I recently had what I thought was a stomach bug or something from food poisoning. Small pain and cramping in my stomach, and lots of diarrhea. I got so sick of the diarrhea I went to a doctor. It turned out to be Dengue Fever. Apparently not all forms of Dengue are serious or fatal. Many just cause sweating and diarrhea. It’s more common in the rainy season (September-November) because the moisture attracts more mesquitos. Anyway, I’m Not saying that’s what you have, but wanted to share my experience. My doctor gave me an antiviral herbal formula from China called Minor Bupleurum Formula. It’s been around since 250 A.D. and is used for viruses, flus, hepatitis, and sometimes Malaria. I’ve been taking it for two days and my symptoms are almost gone. Hope you heal well.

I'm surprised that it isn't more common knowledge than it is. I don't know why people are afraid to make videos about stuff like this. It's not like it's something gross. It's just life. Haha

From the feedback so far, it seems to be a thing we need to watch. I'm glad that I found out and it's no big deal to take a few times a year. I'm cool with that.

Fenbendazole, maybe same as Albendazole? Ivermectin addresses other types of parasites. I would take each type. The dosage is so low l wouldn’t worry. Take with a fat for greater adsorption systemically and on an empty stomach for addressing gut parasites. There’s another one I forget the spelling Mendazole? These are being researched for adjunct cancer treatment. Ivermectin will lower blood glucose, so if you’re dealing with insulin issues measure your response to the medication. It may also reduce a fatty liver and cholesterol. Good stuff 🇺🇸💯

Great information. If the locals are taking it routinely as preventive treatment, I also will take it since I routinely eat at 2 small local restaurants at very reasonable prices (cheap). I have never had a problem but why tempt fate? Thank you for sharing. Respectfully

That was my thought. I eat locally all the time and if the locals take it, then maybe I should consider it for myself.

This is why you need a Travel Guidebook that not only provides you information of places that you should visit (as well as other nearby attractions, you should not miss out on, and historical information)Etc. But also information about the dangers and annoyances (of which this one, is rather minor, compared to some of the other ones). It saves a lot of potential hassle, and for the sake of a few bucks, is well worth it -Because "winging it on the go", asking other people on KZbin for advice, is one of the most inadvisable ways of going about things. Akin to, "the blind, leading the blind".

I wish that this knowledge was more common knowledge for visitors. I'm just happy that I know what I do now.

@@FrugalWandererthis stuff is common knowledge if you do your own research. At the end of the day it is your personal responsibility how you want to travel and inform yourself.
