I realise that lots of this vlog isn’t very upbeat in parts but I wanted it to be as truthful as possible because OH MY GOD it is so hard to get holidays right when you have kids! It was a little too hot for them and, in all honesty, I didn’t really do enough research before booking. We hadn’t gone abroad with the kids since they were babies and I didn’t realise just how much you need to make sure there’s lots for them to do. Constantly! Next time they’ve requested “somewhere with a waterpark and a kids’ club” so I had better start looking…

We stayed on Lefkada at a villa booked via Oliver’s Travels. We flew to Preveza with BA. Lefkada had loads of beaches - our favourites were Porto Katsiki (mega busy but really beautiful) and Kathisma (lots of space). My favourite place to eat was Rachi restaurant - they also have a bar there, the views are incredible.

Just got back from two shite nights camping with kids, feeling sad about not making it abroad another year. As an Australian we did a “California vacation” at the same age your children are now. Here’s a fun trip….Disneyland for a few days, staying at a nice walking distance hotel, followed by drive up the the coast staying at a different town every day or so, stopping at beaches and sights along the way. Santa Barbara-Pismo beach-Carmel-Monterey (plan for 2 days here the aquarium is a whole day)-SAN Francisco and fly home from there. It’s not a tortured drive. There is so much to see and to interest adults and children alike. Tried a kids club holiday previously, nothing worse than going to an all inclusive and little peeps won’t go to kids club.

Yes, except San Francisco is a shite town right now with stores closing and the Wharf and tourist areas full of the homeless and mentally ill. My nephew and his family just moved away and bought a home in San Antonio TX. To me if I have to shop and cook, it is not a vacation. Secondly, all the toys and video games in the world are not going to keep them off your back. Thirdly, eat, don't eat, whatever gets you through the meal and never order anything other than chicken nuggets and french fries. When my kids were little we spent every summer at a resort in Hawley PA. called Woodloch Pines. It is a relatively expensive place, but good value for money. Meaning, we would book a full week whereby the cost included the room, all 3 meals a day ( on site bakery and food fantastic), snacks, lakefront beach, indoor sports complex with pool and racket ball, go carts, movies, every Wed. was dress up night with a Broadway show production and more. Best part was they have on site babysitter's for all ages night or day and cheap. I used to book one every afternoon for 4 hours and the sitter takes them to activities of which there are many. Then after dinner they would come to the diningroom and pick up the kiddies and either take them to an evening activity or back to the room for bedtime. This gave all adults a glorious time doing whatever we wanted and later on at night the kids were already asleep. We met wonderful friends and we did the same week in July for 5 years and we are friends with one couple to this day still. So yes Ruth, all inclusive with a kid's club next time for sure!

When you started talking about the burger recipe you found, I thought, "Was it Gordon Ramsay's?" and then you said, "It was Gordon Ramsay's" and I almost choked on my coffee. Holidays with kids are like a holiday with neighbors down the street you think you know but really don't, and so there are lots of surprises during the vacation. But I guarantee that your children will remember this trip with a cheerful haze and look back on it fondly. Even the illness part, because you all recovered! I loved going on holidays with my daughter and stepdaughter. It’s was the only time they were good friends and didn’t fight at all😂😂 They played their Nintendo , read books( which they usually hated) had coloring books and we played games and sang along to our favorite music. We had a new “main/ theme” summer song for each holiday. When I hear these songs on the radio now, I get really sentimental😢 Luckily they loved car holidays and big ferries/cruise boats. ( love the tax free shopping on board😅) Our best holiday was driving from Norway to Hungary . We had sleepovers and sightseeing in all the wonderful cities. Stopped in quaint villages to buy local fruit straight from the farmers. Took pictures in lavender fields and sunflower fields 🥰 Such nice memories❤❤ A shameful PS: I loved going to LIDL in Hungary also.. I’m a smoker🤫 and a pack of cigarettes was 50 cent there in 2011.. my partner was happy for the 1 liter vodka bottles for €3.. he was happy as long as he got his screwdrivers after the kids went to bed , in their own room I may add😂

The things I've heard about cruises are not good and I cant think of anything worse than someone else sorting my holiday itinerary telling me when to get on and off the boat, having time constraints nah not for me. I'll stick to a beach villa with a pool for the kids

You are such a treat! 🥰😂🥰 Growing up we never went anywhere with a kids club but my dad was one of those who studied everything the area had to offer children and made an agenda so we wouldn’t miss a thing. We always had a great time but generally needed a vacation to rest up after our vacations! I would think an all inclusive would allow for as busy or as relaxed as you desire and the children would always have options of staying entertained!

I just had dinner with a friend who just got back from an expensive vacation along the coast of Maine with her 8 and 6 year old boys on tow. This is a trip she had taken twice before and loved. She immediately started out that she really didn’t enjoy the trip and when I asked her why she said….. “my kids were annoying the whole time”. 😂

Great vlog - I hope you do bring them back. Such honesty and humour. If it’s any consolation, we don’t have kids but we did take our dog on holiday (Wales) and it rained the whole time. We wanted her to enjoy running on the beach and splashing in the sea, but it turned out that she didn’t really like the sea and just wanted to chase a lady for her sausage roll.

We used to do Mallorca for years - my boys used to love just going to the beach! And the local very similar playground. Not sure if it’s different as an island - but we very rarely did kids clubs on holidays. We did used to go to Palma for the day in a car which helped. ❤

Yes to vlogs. I'm tired of unrealistic expectations, bring on the bickering kids and dirty beaches. We've been travelling to Italy from Australia (my husband is Italian) for our only holiday of the year since our first was 6 months, and now our kids are almost 7 and 4. It's always like this. Nothing is ever as glamorous or relaxing as anyone says, but, somehow we keep going back 😂. I think we forget, and remember only the best bits, which is just as well. We always do agriturismi, Airbnb, supermarket shops and cook at home so there's not a kids club in sight but we still have an adventure and a half. This year we're going to Spain and I'm sure it'll be same old same old just different scenery!

Leftkada is amazing ! I went for the first time this year . The weather was super , people are so friendly and speak English . Leftkada town has fabulous shopping , the food , the beaches all great . It’s not tacky tourism . I’m recommending all my friends to visit ! I haven’t got young children now so I understand people have different needs . It’s a sailor’s paradise, boat trips from Nydri if you go there book lunch / dinner at Hotel Armonia ! 😋😍
