As someone who loves horror and grew up with The Exorcist, it was really interesting to read The Case Against Satan, and I honestly can't believe I didn't hear about it years ago. Clearly, Blatty was influenced by it. And yeah, as far as the Bishop immediately saying "possessed by the devil" and the younger priest being the more doubtful, that was definitely a refreshing change of pace. I really liked all of the theological discussion between the two priests about the nature of the evil/the devil. Glad you liked it too.

Agreed!!! Like the exorcist is touted as THE exorcism story, but Case Against Satan came way before it... I find that when I go back to horror classics now, they sometimes fall a lil flat for me cuz I've already consumed so much media that was influenced by it. So it really was refreshing that Case Against Satan managed to still feel new to me.

I am a postdoctoral scholar in an academic lab! I worked in a biotech/industry lab for a couple years before getting my PhD though 🤓
