@@superdude899 yes. They tried to drag her out and she was having none of it. They'd already by this point shot her security officer once and in the process shot him 2 more times. He shot a police officer who came to investigate the noise and the driver. He was then challenged by a former heavyweight boxer who hit him, he was shot at but was missed before hitting him again at which point the would be kidnapper made a run for it before being brought down by a police detective and arrested. Apparently Ann said she got bloody angry that the kidnapper had torn her gown. The intervention by the boxer gave her and her then husband a chance of getting out the other side of the car, which caused the kidnapper to move away from the other door and they then got back in and secured the doors. The security officer was awarded the George Cross (the highest civilian bravery medal in the UK) for his actions and the others were awarded the George medal and one was awarded the queen's gallantry award. All those shot survived, including the security officer shot 3 times when he had put himself between the attack and Princess Ann.

@@Skelli2 venom is just spicy saliva. When snakes produce venom, it is actually just their saliva which contains some added chemicals. So technically, you'd just be drinking snake spit, which, like human spit, is made up of mostly proteins and enzymes, which the stomach acid easily breaks down. Human stomach acid can dissolve steel when concentrated; a few extra proteins and enzymes won't really do much at all.

Oh hey, you're into Blue's history videos... if you do more, be aware he does sneak quick "jabs" in there like he did with 'Pompey the Headless'. The good news is how most of his stuff is basically in the spirit of what my parents would call 'Western Civ material', and it's one of his passions. He has done other stuff too, and there's a lot of research and effort gone into it. (When you get to them, check out some of the maps he sets up... some are simply insane.) ... and he's not been perfect, sometimes putting the wrong flags up for instance, but usually a top comment is him admitting the mistake or he mentions it in the description.

In high school (or Austrian equivalent) history class I picked "Assassination Attempts on Adolf Hitler" as presentation topic (thinking of the few more famous ones) only to learn that there are 42 known and documented attempts with some sources saying a number of 100+ could be feasible. I decided to only do a best off, because there are just way too many to present to class in 20 minutes some of the ways in which they failed were almost comical. Some of them included: - 1934 Van Pappen's speechwriter wanted to shoot him, but didn't because he feared it might make him a martyr - 1937 A bomb is planted, but not primed because the assassin is locked in a bathroom stall by accident - Nov 1939 Hitler leaves 10 minutes earlier than planned and is not hit by the bomb in the "Bürgerbräukeller" - 3 days later Erich Kordt planned to blow up the "Reichskanzlei" and is only unsuccessful because due to the attempt 3 days earlier security is tightened - 1943 a planned bombing attempt at a presentation of new Wehrmachtuniforms fails, because a british bombing run destroyed the uniforms - 1944 Eddie Chapman offers to suicide bomb Hitler, but MI5 declines, because he had a criminal past, also british leadership would rather capture Hitler alive (Source: Will Berthold - Die 42 Attentate auf Adolf Hitler (translates to: The 42 Assassination Attempts on Adolf Hitler) - ISBN 978-3-928127-70-7)

there was also an attempt to bomb hitler during a parade using the de haviland comet racing plane but the pilot turned them down fearing for his own safety, the plan would have apparently involved ascetically modifying the plane to resemble a soviet or polish bomber and taking off from a covert airfield near the polish border.

The Teddy Roosevelt one is amazing for a couple of reasons. First, the bullet was actually slowed down by his metal glasses case and speech notes, which were in his breast pocket. They're actually in the Smithsonian, I believe. Second, the fact that he was able to essentially perform his own assessment of his injuries because of just how active he was both as an outdoorsman and in the military, and ruled "Yeah, I'm good for another forty minutes." Probably the most wild story I've heard about a failed assassination was Samuel Byck, the man who tried to assassinate Nixon by hijacking a plane and flying it into the White House. The Ford attempts were also wild because they happened within three weeks of each other and were VERY near misses. Squeaky Fromme was less than two feet away from Ford, but she forgot to load the chamber in her gun so it didn't fire. Sarah Jane Moore had her gun confiscated shortly before, purchased another one that had dodgy sights, and fired a shot that missed Ford by a few feet. It's speculated that if she had had the gun she was familiar with, she very well could have killed him.

Speaking of Teddy Roosevelt, there’s a story that a couple of guys stole his boat and the man BUILT a new boat, chased them down, and got his boat back. Honestly I need a reaction video of either crazy Roosevelt stories or Castro assassinations

OSP is great. You should react to Red's (the other half of the channel) summary of the Dracula novel, since you just did the Extra History series. Or Blue's summary of the Ptolemy family tree. That one is hilarious.

OMG I'm thrilled for you to find OSP! It's one of the only channels where my wife and I overlap because it's SO GOOD. I Assume you'll spend more time reacting to Blue's history series', but Red's trope and mythology/storytelling videos are also incredibly thoughtful and valuable in a historical context. (And awesome)

I know this is an older video but the comment early on about the assassination that started WWI being the most influential brought an idea. What were the most influential assassinations and/or individual historical evens (not entire wars or monarch's/dynasty's rules but a single event on its own). Could be divided by era or region but even on just assassinations alone some that come to mind are obvious, JFK, Julius Caesar, Trotsky, or similarly if you want to count in executions too then stuff like King James II of England. A similar vein could be "what if" moments, either events that almost happened but would have changed a lot if they did or events that were almost stopped that changed the course of history (the car making a wrong turn right before the archduke got shot comes to mind). (Editing because I forgot Lincoln and feel stupid.)

Oh wow, I just discovered OSP a few days ago myself! Really funny and educational, I'd suggest watching their videos on the Crusades, or the Mongols. I discovered their channel because of a Japanese History Channel called Linfamy; they're kinda like OSP or Oversimplified since they use animation and witty banter to make history more engaging. If you're interested I hope you check him out!

Funny history tidbit about the "Dry gunpowder in front of a fire". Most people paint that as massively stupid for obvious end result reasons. But the Gunpowder Treason did include an army officer. And here's the funny thing about the British military. Drying powder in front of a fire like that? That was Standard Practice up to the 1960s. Where even on naval warships they would do that. Which probably helps explain getting Jutland'd quite a bit.

Not quiet an assassination attempt but the USS William D. Porter did shoot a torpedo at the USS Iowa carrying FDR on Nov. 14th, 1943, when during an exercise they forgot to remove the primer for one of their torpedo tubes and so when the practice started they actually fired a torpedo at the USS Iowa.

8:05. I read on Wikipedia, it said he claims descent from Robert Catesby through his mother. 16:46. I also read that the would-be assassin John Schrank would have been lynched save for the fact Theodore shouted for him to remain unharmed. 17:21. I looked it up, it was actually in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Bush grenade thing happened in Georgia back in 2005. Moron lobbed a grenade at the stage from a crowd (stage was reportedly protected by a bullet-proof glass). It missed its mark and landed among the people. Luckily grenade turned out to be a dud. There was a huge manhunt for the guy and they put out a literal bounty on him. Two security officers got the tip, and probably motivated by the bounty attempted to capture him, without calling in the backup. Which resulted in the death of one of them.

I thought about the shoe throwing incident too! And there was a plot to kill George HW Bush during his visit to Kuwait after he had left office. If I recall, the would be assassins were discovered and detained before they could put their plan into action.
