If I only had 10 percent of the 45 rpm discs owned by my brother, sister, and I, in the late 1950s and ‘’60s, I would have a treasure. I cringe at the memories our treatment of them, including sailing them like frisbees. Congratulations, Katie, for your years of caring collecting and your preservation of such beautiful musical pieces. Thank you for sharing. I’m so glad the magic of KZbin popped you onto my little screen. You are a treasure!

Interesring to see the VMP country series and all the extras that came with the albums. Enjoyed learning all the background info too. Great video.

Sorry to hear VMP is dropping the Country track. I have a few of them too. Love those titles. Thanks Katie.

Hi Katie, nice list of VMP Country albums. Here are some others I highly recommend: The Houston Kid by Rodney Crowell; Infamous Angel by Iris DeMent; Old Five And Dimers Like Me by Billy Joe Shaver (he wrote a lot of the songs on Waylon Jennings' Honky Tonk Heroes); Old No. 1 by Guy Clark; Don't Close Your Eyes by Keith Whitley; Busy Bee Cafe by Marty Stuart; and For The Sake Of The Song by Townes Van Zandt.

Hello Katie, It was lovely to see your VMP country collection. There are some amazing records in that selection. To be honest I've got most of those albums, but would've loved to get some of the reissues of difficult to find stuff. The one I fancied was Infamous Angel by Iris DeMent, and it was great that Billy Joe Shaver's Old Five and Dimers Like Me got a much needed reissue...Although I'm lucky to have an original copy. Like you, I'm a bit of an Emmylou Harris completist. Maybe I'd sign up to VMP if they released a repressing Cowgirl's Prayer...And put out Spyboy, Hard Bargain and Western Wall on vinyl for the first time. Then I'd be a happy chappy. I'm not a Reba kinda guy. Much like you said, the over-production pushes me away...Like most 90s Nashville country. I do have one album of hers, My Kind of Country, which was her first album after signing to MCA. Unlike her prievious albums, it's a stripped back traditional country record, it's only a shame it's an outlier in her career, as right afterwards she returned to the saccharine pop production. Although, I'll have to give For My Broken Heart a go. It is a shame...If not scandalous...that so few female artists were featured. Especially when you consider that, more than other music genres, women are a huge part of the country music listenership. Cheers - Hedley

@@anotherfatbeardedmantalkin5893 Thanks Hedley. Sounds like you have an amazing collection. I have the Iris so am going to give that another go. I purchased every woman just out of principal! Thanks for your comments. Really appreciated.

I’ve been a fan of country for decades as my parents in the 70’s & 80’s would listen to Cash, Willie, Dolly, Emmy Lou & so many others. I got lucky when my local store owner purchased a collection with tons of country/Americana artists. I got first look so I grabbed many OG early Cash & Willie etc etc and expanded those artists works ten fold. Some were rough so I’m still got one eye on some mintier copies but this genre where I live is difficult to find. I got very focused on completing Willie Nelson’s collection and have found it almost unending lol. My more current favourites artists are Lucinda Williams, Towns Van Zant, couple others but most of all John Prine. I’ve almost completed his catalog, all new because I would likely pass away before I find any of his works used. Don’t know why but in this genre all his work used is like finding the Beatles “Butcher” cover….impossible. No one ever discusses John Prine or many artists listed above so your vid was refreshing.

I love Lucinda Williams, she's such an underrated artist. I'm enjoying her most recent album, with a few songs dedicated to the late great Tom Petty.

@@cordesrecords I'm a fan of Linda Ronstadt and her 70s Country/Rock sound.

Oh and if you love John Prine then you must MUST get his last two albums before he passed away. These last albums are very spiritual and you know he has made his peace with God. He is dying and much of the lyrics convey this yet still his witty fun comes through. His voice had changed due to his cancer (he smoked like a chimney) but beautiful music. I’m a strong tougher old guy and I hold back tears when I hear these recordings. That’s all , take care.

VMP's cancellation of their Country Music track kills my interest in the label. Katie, you left out my personal favorite, by a very close friend of John Prine's: Iris DeMent. All her albums are great, and I mean GREAT!

Iris' second album My Life contains the most heartbreaking song I've ever heard: "No Time To Cry". Merle Haggard's cover version is good, but Iris' is devastating. Rock music critic Robert Christgau gave the album a grade of A+.
