hi Sage getting fed up with your lamenting a bad race. You are awesome and have a great attitude to what you do so I guess that your true friends know what you can do and that a sixth position is still a great result. You are one of the top runners in the world no need for you to get down about your performance. You provide some great dreams for us runners who are only back packers. Look forward to seeing you in the next race no matter where you finish. Stick at it Bro you are the man win or lose. Lastly Hi Sandy thanks for supporting your guy.

What would the average guy do to have a sixth-place finish? Almost anything hahaha but I do understand ...you're a competitive athlete .. most world-class athletes ,even when they when they critique their performance.. But don't get too hard on yourself.. You're the best

Totally dismiss the naysayers Sage. Keep your focus and in today's world your openness and straightforward commentary are refreshing. Of course during the race itself, certainly the competition to win and be number one is of course the goal. However, the races are a very small segment of time and the person you are the rest of the time and the rest of your life are the true test. My compliments, Sir.

Great post race account Sage. Great to hear how things unfolded. I’m in the U.K. and when you’re racing I say to my wife, “Sage is running right now you know” and I’m looking forward to the result and vlog afterwards. Ive learned so much and improved so much because of your channel. Hoka One One gear is great and never would’ve tried them if it weren’t for you. Keep going Sage and hey, Sandi too!

Have you ever thought about making the periods of your any surface any distance philosophy a little longer. Because following you along the last few years it seems as though you just never get into the rhythm for your current focue area (like trail running or marathon) and miss most of your goals. And right when you seem to adjust a little to your current area of focus you change again. Wouldn´t it for example make sense to focus on the marathon for as long as you need to achieve your respective goal like the OTQ and be it a 3 year window if it takes that. And after that shift the focus to trail running, till you achieve a big goal there. I´m just wondering if that would not make you happier, having to deal less with constant setbacks?

Noah Leidinger It depends what your goals are though. Sage seems like he enjoys challenges and passing up an epic race while he’s in top form would be tough. Plus he gets to have the experience of running trails and roads to keep it fresh

Congrats Sage! I know you are disappointed but well done. One thought I had, you appear to be the only top athlete wearing a vest. The extra weight will definitely slow you down on the climbs especially. I know just carrying a single water bottle makes me slower while climbing. Maybe ditch the vest and just rely on aid stations like the other elites. Great video. Good luck in your future endeavors!

I broke my finger in July in a freak swimming thing..."avulsion fracture of the distal phalanx"...basically where a tendon breaks off the part of the bone where it attaches. Definitely have it checked out if after the swelling goes down you can't extend it normally...could be a extensor tendon-related issue.

Hello sage glad you didn’t hurt yourself too bad up in Mammoth training some people I’m on the bike by myself 30 mile an hour crash downhill shoulder Bad. Thigh shoulder back glutes I m getting better but it’s a couple months. the biggest thing you said was sometimes the things you wouldn’t tell one of your athletes to do change that you both are very smart concentrate on your goal for a little bit more get under 219 you got a long time to do everything else. 😀GOOD😎 luck. rooting for you

Oh and I agree with the commentators who reviewed the race and primarily Emelie that you have the full package and have yet to peak and will soon enough bring it all together in a trail race. Should you stay fully in trail in the future you will likely be taking a lot of top spots in years to come.

Wait, you ran 3:46? My marathon PR is 3:49; woohoo, I'm almost as fast as Sage Canaday! (I mean, your race was a mountain marathon at altitude, whereas my PR came in a road race at sea level along the shoreline of Lake Erie, but hey, I take my W's where I get 'em....) Good luck with the next race, Sage - we're still pulling for ya!

Wow, I am even more impressed by the result now that I know about the fall. 6th is maybe not what you expected, but not so bad considering the line-up. How do you compare the Torrent with the Speedgoat? I will run the OCC with the latter. I had ATR Challenger before, and I loved them. I heard that Torrent were somewhat between Challenger and Speedgoat? BTW, I love the music intros.
@Vo2maxProductions
@Vo2maxProductions 6 жыл бұрын
the HOKA ONE ONE Torrent is a bit lighter and more nimble...it fits a bit bigger than the Speedgoat though! Traction in the Speedgoat is the best....Vibram outsole. I like the Torrent better than the Challenger and it has better traction. It is a different feel. Depends on trail conditions/weather as well as foot strike. Thanks!

Been watching your videos for a long time. Here's what I think. You need to choose trail or road. There's a reason why there are no top elite runners doing both at the top level. Those OQ races are just too much taxing on the body. I think you should just concentrate on trail running. I see the love in trail running.

6th place in a race like that is not to be sneezed at. I understand the competitive urge to win however. But I will say you have no need to justify your performance to us in any way. It just didn't happen for you on the day, just like it didn't happen for the four people in front of you. And the people who say you didn't win because you're vegan probably ween't in front of you during the race were they? So what would they know? You do what you do. Just be you and take the wins when they happen. If you won every time then there would be no challenge and you'd get bored with the whole thing pretty quickly. It's the challenge that drives is. If you wanted easy, you'd be doing 5km fun runs - in a gorilla suit. (try running 5kms in full rescue kit - now there's a challenge ;-) ) Loving the intros as well, so keep on doing what YOU love doing and don't worry about the rest of us.
