The thing is nowadays it's hard with all the effects, even on live performances, to gauge the real voice of people. I wouldn't trust too much things labelled as LIVE, for today's singers. In the 90 or 80, live was live, like truly.

i'm honestly confused as to why some of these new gen clips were chosen, there were so many better ones. i think seungyeon was a great choice for F#, but i would've used her phrased F#'s from her remember performance, and i would've used mariah's phrased F#'s from of its over grammy performance. and for the G i would've used someone who can sustain up there for new gen, such as sohyang's bridge over troubled water, demi's octave jump G (i can't remember the song), park kiyoung's insane sustained G from that one immortal song's performance that i also cant remember the name of (sorry). and for A i'd use lea michele's A from halo/walking on sunshine.

That's what I'm saying? There's quite a few better newer vocalists than in some of these clips. I feel like they went for most popular than best vocals. Gen Z tends to go for catchier music than better vocals, so most of the most popular vocals aren't really a good show of my Generations vocal skills. Like, Why put Natallie Weiss up against Sohyang when high-belting isn't Natalie's strength? (It's admittedly the most uncomfortable part of her voice) You could have put Nova MIller there instead. Why put Tori Kelly there when she's known for her runs, Why not put Faouzia there instead who has better examples of high belting than Tori? Why put Ariana Grande up for a G# against Lisa Fischer when you could have put Sun Yung up there instead? It should also be said that the older music generation has an edge when it comes to vocal battles due to the older mics not being able to pick up as much sound quality which makes voices sound much less tense than they truly are. If they used the same mic, I'd assure you some of these vocals would have sounded the exact same.

The concept of the video that you watched was flawed because a lot of the women being compared were born in the same generation LOL. By "generation", I thought that they meant _actual_ generations, like Baby Boomers (people born from 1940-1959) or Gen-Xers (people born from 1960-1979). A fun concept would have been Baby Boomer vocalists (Aretha, Barbra etc.) vs. Gen X vocalists (Whitney, Mariah etc.).

Patti hit a higher note (B5/Bb5) thats why its thinner while Jessie only hit A5 that will definitely sound more open than Bb5. Everything up there was loud and thin so if its higher it sounds thinner due to the contraction of the vocal chords to produce higher sound.
